The 3 3/4-inch tall Iron Man is a heck of a neat figure-- but here's the thing, it's not exactly just a figure. For various reasons, Funko has made its distinctive Pop! Vinyl figures similar, yet different. Star Wars are bobble heads with display bases. Marvel Universe are bobble heads with no bases. The bulk of the rest of them are just figures with articulated heads, no bobbling. On a shelf together they all fit together nicely, and Iron Man here is adorable. Like their Blox line, these Funko figures are going to be things collectors likely look back on in 30 years and say "How come they don't make them like this anymore?"
Through a fluke of fate, I bought this figure at a Target during a reset for $0.74. That is not a typo. After experimenting with this line in specialty, it rolled out to Target in a big way with space on the action figure aisle in late July of 2011, which seems like a good fit. The toy figure aisle is increasingly for adults, and this line fits somewhere in the middle-- sure, a kid might enjoy it as a gift, but odds are it's there for the 20something desk jockey to decorate his cubicle. It's cute, recognizable, and looks a lot like a variation on the ubiquitous 1970s smiley face, or Yahoo! emotes, or whatever yellow head is your favorite. It's a simple design which translates well to this format.
The figure is molded in red and has yellow, black, and white paint applications to bring him to life. For some reason mine has a big yellow scuff on his left hand, which is odd, but he also has black lines on his torso and a white ARC reactor on his chest. The hands and feet may have benefitted from additional black detailing, but it's really all about his head anyway, and the head looks great. If you missed Hasbro's Mighty Muggs figure, I'd say this is a much better design and is slightly cheaper, so go ahead and get it with my seal of approval. It is by no means a specimen like Lion-O which may stun and shock your friends and co-workers with its vast big-ness, but it's a cute little design which should be right at home anywhere a flat surface is available. If you can get it for $9 or less, it's a good buy. If you stumble on one for under two bucks like I did, don't be an idiot-- buy it and give it as a gift if you don't want it, and if you don't want it you should get yourself checked for bad taste. If you read this site, I guarantee you know someone who would want it.
