Here's a good one. Mekaneck was one of the first figures discussed to the public when this line was announced, as Scott "ToyGuru" Neitlich let fans know how the line would be moving in regards to action features. Mechaneck's once-geared neck is now a piece which you can pop in between the head and the torso, and this time around you have a few options. There's a short neck, a long neck, and you can pop both together for a very long neck. Gravity may start to be a problem at this point, but it's a clever workaround for a line whose selling point and primary shortcoming is "no action features." They did a great job fudging the feature but I do miss having it.
His body armor you're going to recognize from Stinkor a few months ago. While the head and club are new, the rest of the body is recycled from... well, pretty much everybody. I figure you no doubt recognize the red, silver, blue, and other elements from the rest of the collection. The articulation is par for the course and the joints are stiff without being too stiff. Unless I pulled a double-decker on the neck, he had no real problems standing up with his gear.
My only complaint with this one? The head. The goggles aren't very colorful like the 200X release, plus the head/goggles doesn't seem to sit on the head as it should. Like, it's off just a few millimeters. Depending on how your room is lit or how close you are, you may not notice, and it seems figures vary a little from sample to sample. Mine isn't bad, and I've seen some that look a smidgen more off... but it's an important part to get right.
Since Mekaneck was all over the 2002 TV show and one of its first figures, I was really looking forward to him in 2008. And 2009. And 2010. So by 2012 I was pretty ready for him, and the execution, while not bad, isn't perfect. The helmet being a smidgen off is a rare misstep in its design, but it's possible this won't be the last Mekaneck we see. The 2002 cartoon and the 2012 mini-comics included with figures showed Snake Man-At-Arms as well as Snake Mekaneck, so if you're wanting a 2002-inspired robotic version of the character it probably isn't out of the question that Mattel has, penciled in a notebook somewhere, plans for a cybernetic Snake Mekaneck. I have no proof, but I'm going to say it's a reasonable bet. I'd say Mekaneck is worth your while especially on the cheap... but in 2012, with awesome figures like Draego-Man, Castle Grayskullman, Shadow Weaver, Stinkor, Fisto, and so many others, he doesn't stand out. He's good, and with the necks, Mattel did about as much as they could to make him the best-possible Mekaneck he could be within the limitations of this line.
