I've been itching to get a Hulk figure that was entirely green, so when the 8-Pack Avengers Figure Collection came along I happily picked it up for Hulk and friends. The single figure has brown pants, but this one? Purple. The way it should be! Well, or at least that's the way I prefer it. Brown pants are for Target employees. I need purple!

While not exactly in scale with the rest of his team, Dr. Banner is still beefier and bulkier than his pals (and Loki) with massive fists as his main weapons. The best thing about the figure is that his ab crunch joint is actually geared to work with his ratcheted/spring-loaded arms so you can pull his arms back a bit and let them go for the obligatory "HULK SMASH" action. It's pretty awesome. I wish all of Hasbro's Hulk toys did this, I'd buy more of them. (I know some of you dislike action features on toys, I'm here to tell you that you are oh so very wrong.)

While there's no waist joint, Hulk does have a decent array of articulation which is somewhere between a collector's figure and a kid's figure. You get 10 points of articulation, with what basically amount to bend-and-swivel joints at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. The neck gets a ball joint, and the waist has an ab cruch... there's no swivel here, and there really aren't any swivels in the bulk of the Avengers movie line. Hasbro decided to be more kid-driven, which is why you saw lots of things like Thor's Hammer, Cap's Shield, Hulk Hands, and masks galore. That's where the money is with kids, they're really in to roleplay and dress-up (which is counter to what boys of the 1980s heard, dressing up wasn't really our thing.) Hulk's black hair and somewhat eerie face are sculpted quite well, I didn't much care for how his torso looked but the arms were crazy powerful-looking and the right hand is molded into a handy fist, for punching and/or smashing. I won't lie to you, I had more fun with this figure than any in the entire set. It's a delight to have him hit things. I can't wait for a version that can do uppercuts.

The figure has a good likeness to our favorite jolly green giant, but when you get right down to it he's not really superior to the individually carded release for $10 except in price (assuming you want the complete set) and his purple pants-ness. I think he's the best movie Hulk you can get in this scale for Avengers, but I'm sure a deluxe version could be better. If Hasbro did those. And they don't.
