Part of Mattel's special skills with Masters of the Universe Classics is finding a way to make me love figures I don't necessarily want. I had no desire to own a He-Man based on New Adventures, but dagnabbit, they did an awesome job. This is the He-Man figure to get - even if you have the regular one, it's worth your while due to his enhanced articulation (previously seen on Bow) and, frankly, excellent compliment of gear. The clear neon green sword and shield make it feel like a toy, with armor and helmets allowing you to tailor the figure to whichever of his looks you prefer. Options are nice to have, and with the rising prices I guess they're pretty much required.
At about 7-inches tall, you mostly know what to expect. The figure is enhanced with bend-and-swivel wrists allowing him to point his sword and assume the "I Have the Power" pose that you want on your standard He-Man figures. On my sample all of the joints work great, and this upgraded He-Man is probably Mattel's best figure in terms of engineering and overall execution. The sculpt plays on the 1990 original by adding a classic red cross to his armor, adding some much-needed detail to the incredibly bland original design.
Accessory interaction is simple and easy - by default, he has a ponytail and the light harness, which fit his look just fine as a sci-fi fantasy character from 23 years ago. The sword fits in his hand, and the shield clamps on his wrist - it looks great and works with no struggles. The heads swap easily, and the bulkier armor fits well and tabs into place fairly easily. The alternate space armor is covered in hoses, dials, buttons, and other greeblies making it delightfully toylike and incredibly detailed, although it's likely none of the details serve any real purpose. It just looks cool. Also, He-Man's enhanced articulation allows him to easily reach backward and grab the sword from the holder on his back - I love it! Mattel really nailed this one.
I remember when the New Adventures of He-Man came out and I just didn't feel it - maybe I was too old - but this figure makes me excited to see more figures from this subset. I'd love to see a matching Skeletor if it meant having the added wrist articulation, and now I can see why fans might be demanding a new He-Man 2.0 with slightly better articulation. It really is a big improvement and I'm sure you're going to love it if you buy one. (You should buy one.) He's totally worth owning, even if he is effectively just Bow with new heads and new accessories.
