I liked the idea of the White Star figures a bunch - blank white figures are great custom fodder, and I think would have made great debut releases rather than as third encores. White Star Inferno came out at a pretty high price-per-figure as a large boxed set, which I have no doubt limited its appeal to hardcore fans or hungry customizers. The set was marked down a significant chunk within a month of Comic-Con, which stung, and the set was followed up by a New York Comic Con set of six white figures based on the 2013 new characters.

But how is this one?

It's OK. The white plastic is clean and consistent throughout, with a few blue paint applications on his eyes, gun, and chest symbol. It's fairly high-quality stuff and as it isn't clear, you get a rare opportunity to see a lot more detail of the Four Horsemen's work without it being obfuscated by paint. The subtle accordion joints are there, and look great. I don't think it does the "flame" portion many favors, but the suit certainly looks exquisite and I would imagine people would, if given the chance, buy a bucket of just this figure to use as the basis for future custom action figures.

I've been buying all the figure colors thus far and have been largely pleased, although this set is probably the least exciting or the biggest afterthought. The concept is strong, the execution was well-done, but do I need to own it? No. I do, because I'm dumb, and the figure probably makes the least sense of the many Infernos, a smattering of which you can see below.

The man of flame makes sense as red or orange, yellow, even blue - but white? I get "white hot" but I generally don't think of white when I think of fire. We've seen the original design, which was great. The Cosmic Creators editions were lovely. I even liked the clear ones. But this? Well... it's here. I guess. Like the rest, this 3 3/4-inch scale figure has 13 points of articulation, alternate bent arms, a flame backpack, and a cool removable helmet.

I've seen blue in flames, and oranges and yellows, but this is a figure that went from an exciting new purchase to that which will collect dust. There's nothing wrong with the construction or anything - it's just the color choice is a bit of a snooze. Timing is everything, because as a debut - as we saw with a mostly-white Power Lords release recently - anything is good. It's a new mold! We're excited! But as a proud owner of eight Infernos I'm feeling a little burned out. I'm not saying to not buy this - heck, buy this one first - but purchases like these sometimes make you measure your common sense against your wallet.
