Standing 3-inches tall, Rayexx fills the demand I've been making of the poor, long-suffering makers of Glyos for years. A matching Kabuto Mushi was also made, but I've been pestering team Onell Design and the Outer Space Men guys to do an X-Ray Man Jack Asteroid or X-Ray Woman Tera Firma for years. I hope they still do it. But if they don't? Pheyden's good. I'm happy with Pheyden.
Thousands of years ago, Fisher-Price made its own action figure line including a number of cool space toys. They went along nicely with Star Wars as a sort of a cousin. The X-Ray People, which you can see at Mechageezer's Toy Ramblings were made out of existing figure tooling, cast in clear green, and painted strangely. Toy customizers and "bootleggers" have done this deco on countless figures since then.
Molded in green, Pheyden now cosplays as this most awesome figure. He has a chest tampo inspired by both the original X-Ray Man and, seemingly, Maxx Zero. The chest tampo was previously see on Pheytron [FOTD #1,630] with slightly different colors - and a lot more paint. The clear green figure has a yellow belt and a blue dome, which matches the hair of the X-Ray people from the last century.
The Onell Design crew know the right colors - yellow eyes! Green skin! Mostly unpainted limbs! It's a wonderful tribute to one of the neatest low-budget figure concepts of all time. I wish I had the originals but I don't - so I'm just very happy to have this tribute, and likely any other tributes I can get down the road.
The figure sold out very quickly so if you were slow on the draw or had plans that night, the only way you could get one is to convince someone to sell you theirs or to beg Matt Doughty for one. (Thank you, Matt.) I love it - and I hope I don't miss any other cool Adventure People Glyos tributes. I like these even more than the character tributes, like the TMNG and the Lingrems and whatnot. These are just a little more obscure, plus have the benefit of having absolutely no other similar toys on the market today. I'm not sure if he'll be a permanent fixture on my desk, but he's hanging out with Keldorac and Bobaran. So he probably will be. I hope to see a few more figures like this from the other Glyos makers. (I'm looking at you, Battle Tribes. And The Outer Space Men.)
