I got a message from toy pal Seth that Masters of the Universe Beast Man hit a few weeks ago, along with the rest of wave 2. I don't want to go heavy in Mega Construx figures, but I'll buy them as they pop up - the Alien I got cracked out of the box so that went back and completism is out, but I enjoyed the Masters I got and wanted to keep that sub-line going. Shipping with Teela, the line now has four Eternians.
This 2-ish inch scale figure is another good one, with furry limbs and the same clamp hands. A painted, open mouth with sculpted teeth and blue eye paint makes the face pop, which is great because the Kirk and Spock figures didn't quite look so good. Orange skin and fuzzy feet may mean more mammalian men may be forthcoming, but I assume at the very least they may give us Faker and Moss Man later since we have the parts. Beast Man's sculpted armor looks great, and the head is about what you would expect at this size and price point. It's not a $30 figure, because it's not a $30 figure.
It looks more or less like a mishmash of the original Beast Man figure with a bit of the cartoon look - the head is simplified but has whites in his eyes, unlike the original toy. The sword of power looks a lot like the cartoon, and the shield is a good match for the original toy.
The deco is good, with a rubbery whip that fits right in his hand. Complete with blue fuzzy briefs, it's the figure that I would've hoped to get - and I'd liek to get a few more. Not too many - Mer-Man, Orko maybe, Man at Arms - it doesn't need to be a huge line. Beast Man has about 14 points of articulation, impressive for the small size and price. There are a lot of recycled parts, but that's increasingly a given in the brick figure world.
This was an impulse buy in an era where I really don't need to be buying more toys - but it's a good figure, and cheap, and fun.
