The good news is that BW-Megatron-T. rex is an entirely new mold, bringing you a little toy dinosaur with seemingly zero paint. There are black and red internal pieces with a purple shell, but it's pretty bland. The sculpt is great, but without painted claws, or teeth, or some sort of marks on the belly or back? It loses something. I suppose this probably has a lot to do with keeping costs down in a wobbly economy.

BW-Megatron-T. rex has a good sculpt and sensible assembly, but also falls a little short in spots. I love that he has knee and ankle joints, but I found if you bend the knees too much the legs just pop apart. I haven't experienced that with other toys in the line. If you have the flame in the lower jaw, removing it will take the jaw with it. This one just feels a little undercooked in deco and engineering.

It's pretty good otherwise, with decent skin sculpting and perfectly nice teeth. The renders exaggerate the texture and color variance a bit, but at least the textures are good. It's a perfectly nice cheap purple Tyrannosaurus Rex, but for a Predacon commander you might be left wanting more. It has some good sculpted details like that flip-out claw on the bottom of his tail, but all the dino skin detailing on the renders of the feet are now completely smoothed over.

For the price, what you get is still pretty decent. Toy dinosaurs are widely available, but not with joints - so you might dig this one. The flame is a bit heavy and makes it hard for him to stand up, and it's nice to have an accessory. I wouldn't miss it had they left it out. If you're willing to fuss with it, the dino is decent - but I like dino mode Grimlock a bit more. It isn't as articulated, but it felt more stable. Having said that, Beast Wars is Beast Wars and this may well be the cheapest take of this character's beast mode we've ever received in America. With that in mind, it's exceptional.
