The Weaponeers of Monkaa line came out last year and hasn't done too much in that time - the 5 1/2-inch high figures share a lot of similar parts and are basically recolored and reconfigured versions of a very versatile design. The OMFG Gohlem deviates from the usual formula, giving fans a mash-up between Monkaa and the October Toys OMFG line. This Gohlem has the OMFG symbol on one side of its chest! The other faction symbol is a Gohlem Face/Fist, so it's pretty nifty and new enough to be interesting.

For $12 I got my money's worth. 4 different Monkaa figures were sold at SDCC - a glow-in-the-dark one, a gold one, this one, and a "deluxe" figure called the Weaponeer with a cloth cape, fancy packaging, and more bonus weapons to boot. Because I'm cheap, I opted for this one and the glow-in-the-dark one.

If you've played with these before, you know that the 22 pieces that make up the core figure are augmented by 2 weapons, 2 bonus heads (1 has 3 pieces), and an added torso/ab piece. His eyes are white on each of the 6 heads/hands, which contrasts surprisingly well against the MUSCLE-esque fleshtone meant to evoke October Toys' OMFG line. Why? They shared a booth, and let me tell you, it was a nice booth. Friendly people, fast service. The figure's range of movement is quite good given each joint is flat plane articulation, plus the heads do tend to add a lot of personality to the figure. I like his default fist face though, and I'll be keeping it as it is.

I wasn't necessarily looking to buy more of these guys (other than glow-in-the-dark) unless Spy Monkey Creations did a new mold, or came up with a stupendously creative colorway - and they did! MUSCLE-flesh is the ideal way to get dorks like me in on this action, as this is a largely unexplored color for this kind of figure. These may well be the first-ever Glyos parts mass produced in this color, and I kind of hope we see more. (Although Pheyden in this color might look dirty, I'd still buy it anyway.) Here's hoping Flesh Mordles, Flesh Armorvors, and Flesh Crayboth figures are on deck soon. I like this figure enough to say grab it if you don't have many Monkaa guys, and even if you do, it's a lot of fun. The color seems to carry a lot of personality without being too light or too dark, and at $12 at a convention I felt it was a good buy.
