Following a tradition-- either real or perceived-- the LEGO Cheerleader was initially thought to be one of the shorter-packed figures in this line. Time and eBay seems to place her at about $8-$12, and I had no problem plucking one out of the bags myself, but hey, there you go.
The figure is, as most of these, pretty much the same construction you've seen for over 30 years. What's interesting is the deco actually paints some yellow on her legs, giving her something rare: visible knees. LEGO only just started painting on a figure's legs in the past decade or so, and generally it's for belts or holsters-- this time, we're seeing detail added for her actual leg and sock, which shows LEGO now looks at their figures a little bit differently than their previous "all long pants, all the time" rule. (Except, you know, when it's time for a long dress.)
The main new parts here are the pom poms, molded in white and painted with some blue to mix things up a bit. The long hair is a nice touch, and were you so inclined you could probably easily cobble together a cheerleader squad by buying a bunch of these and swapping heads and hair with other figures. (That's why duplicates aren't the end of the world with this line.) Depending on your needs, this figure is worth picking up-- surely the Soccer theme could use a few extra cheerleaders, right? I'm not quite sure what the "M" stands for on her uniform, I'd assume "Minifigure" but for all I know someone in the design crew has an actual answer. If I ever get my answer, I'll update accordingly in the space below.
