The bio for the LEGO Egyptian Queen doesn't really seem to allude to the fact that this is Cleopatra, or Liz Taylor-esque Cleopatra, but you and I can figure this one out. The Egyptian Queen was also a well-known historical figure and a tragic literary figure of Antony and Cleopatra, a roughly 1623 play in which the queen dies by reptile. And naturally, the.shtml is included here so kids can re-enact Shakespearean tragedy in their own homes. If history is correct, she didn't make it to 30 which puts her up there with Jimi and Janis and Kurt and Jim, although as to future relevancy I'd put the money on Cleopatra. (The boomers and Gen X-ers didn't write enough plays.)
The figure has fantastic deco and a great dress piece. Sure, it's not articulated, but you get the typical LEGO upper torso with a block "dress" piece, featuring fairly intricate deco with an exceptional amount of make-up on her face and a whole mess of gold on her white person. Her haircut is pretty nifty, and probably more modern than ancient. It also has gold and blue deco on her headband, bringing to you the sort of quality that makes you wonder why we got Pharaoh's Quest recently and the first Adventure line in the 1990s with no real proper "Egyptian" theme. Well, not in a historical sense anyway.
While more or less homeless in terms of theme, she looks cool and as a collectible figure is an awesome addition. Why LEGO didn't just use the historical name is beyond me, but it's not like any kid over the age of 9 or 10 wouldn't have a pretty good idea who this was supposed to be. Unless the schools are worse now than they were when I was a kid. She's great! It's cool to see LEGO bringing out more women into this line, which hopefully will turn more women on to building and collecting, which I assume can only mean the economy of scale will keep the price of bricks from going up for a few more weeks. But I digress - go ahead and get this one. The going rate is $3-$5.
