The 1980s and 1990s were packed with toys remembered fondly by today's adults thanks to a large amount of marketing and a ton of print. Things like Bunikis and Beast Saga are probably going to be remembered by a few Japanese kids and American toy bloggers - nobody else seems to have much memory of this line already. I was hoping for a huge line that eclipsed the original Battle Beasts. While we got a few awesome figures, it fizzled out quickly - but hey, we got a rabbit!
At about 2 3/4-inches tall at the ears, Bunikis is a fairly non-cartoony rabbit in ridiculous sci-fi armor. The green armor recalls the original Battle Beasts Hare-Razing Hare, and new mechanical bits look like they should aid in cybernetic jumping. The helmet covers his head with spaces for his ears to pop out, while his shoulders are monstrous and have huge spikes popping out. His eyes are black and glossy, with a cute brown nose and fur sculpted that looks pretty adorable. There aren't too many special details on the armor, but one really stands out - a cybernetic round bunny tail on his backside. The green highlights on the armor add some color to his very boxy torso, which shoots out the included dice. Mine has a Bunikis symbol as wel as a "4" dice.
Thanks to the design, his limbs can rotate fairly freely - each leg can go back a bit, and the arms rotate rather freely. His 3mm weapons fit right in his fuzzy fists, and don't put up the level of fight you saw with other figures. Sure, they're the same old sword and shield again, but what did you expect? There's not a lot new to arm our beasts as the line goes on.
I got my money's worth - he's cute, small, and pretty nicely designed. The look more or less works, although he's a little ridiculously top-heavy for a creature famous for big ears and bigger jumping power. This is more or less what I'd expected from this line, so I'm glad the little guy delivered a cute, small rabbit in armor for a few bucks. I'd like to see more, but well, that's how these things go! Enjoy them while they last, and get 'em while they're cheap.
