The clear Wolfen Burst is one of many Beast Saga figures I've been slowly trotting out for reviews - this one hit 5 years ago, around which time I took the pictures. This was an exciting line filled with hope for future creatures, and it fizzled out with a lot of unmade prototypes within a year. It happens. The line never made it to the USA, outside of importers, and prices got pretty cheap on most of these guys if you waited. Some are still rather cheap.
The ice-like Wolfen Burst has 4 joints and stands 3-inches tall. It is cast in a clear white for the fluff - not clear colorless - with deep clear blue armor. His eyes are gold, and while the detailing on the face is crisp the clear plastic sucks out a lot of detail. The ammo belts, scar, and many other details are left untouched - clearly the figure was designed to take advantage of multiple squirts of plastic with minimal paint.
The colors mesh like an iceberg with water, giving the furry figure a frosty front and a fierce facade. You can't really see the fangs, but they're there. What you can see are a sword and shield, both reused from previous series as the blind box boosters never bothered to introduce new weapons after the first series.
The toy line's central gimmick is a dice launcher in the chest - it's removable so all the figures share tooling. There's a prism so light reflects into the clear chance cubes, giving the figure a little more life. It shoots a decent distance, and the figure's hands hold its 3mm weapons nicely. You might recognize the ribbed lance and pie-shaped shield from previous series, as all blind box figures in this line basically share the same gear across all series.
I forgot to review this one, and I really should get more of these up here. It's a good figure, an exceptional example of doing something neat on the cheap. I admire his spirit, although the painted one is tons better. You can find one in the exceptional Beast Saga DX Starter Set Action Figure Set [FOTD #564] with several of the line's best figures. (They're all painted and the going rate is about $20.) I would recommend getting that painted 6-pack before the clear guy, unless you've got a fetish for clear figures. (Hi, Seth.)
