After a few gators in the Minimates range I didn't expect to have much interest in the regular version, let alone the clear Aldyle Burst which showed up at my house in January. Packed 3 to a case of 24 random blind clear figures, this figure is cast in both green and blue plastic with golden eyes as his only painted detail. Well, not counting his dice anyway.
As always this croc figure has 4 points of articulation and is made of a soft, rubbery plastic. The arms and legs rotate freely, and his fists are designed to hold 3mm weapons. This figure is interesting in that his weapons (and the entire series') do not match his fully-painted counterpart. Painted Aldyle came with the same weapons as Swordbill and Swordbill Burst. Clear Aldyle comes with the same weapons as Garrison G, Long Giraf, and Long Giraf Burst. I suspect this will cause mucho confusion down the road when people start dumping their collections on eBay, as it seems the only new shields and weapons are now coming in the multi-packs. (For those keeping track, Garrison G Burst comes with the painted Aldyle weapons. Swap-tastic!)
While initially disappointed with the clear guys, they seem to be getting a heck of a lot more interesting to look at with series 2. Aldyle's scales shine nicely, with his shoulder flames now a jewel green and the metal on his head being just clear enough to give it the illusion of being a different color when viewed from the side. The rich green is gorgeous against the dark, clear blue and the whole damn thing sings if you hit it with a decent black light. Good news to mall dwellers ca. 1987!
For a decent price this is a fantastic figure. For a couple of bucks extra, it's still pretty awesome. If you're the kind of person who plays around with how you light your figure displays (from the front, from the back, etc.) you're going to have a field day with this figure. It doesn't provide any thrills that the normal painted version lacks really, but taken on its own it's a really beautiful little figure. If you're already collecting this line and finances permit, you have my recommendation to snag this one.
