I was wanting to buy (and could not find) a plain web slinger Playskool figure. And then I stumbled on the Clear Spider-Man at a grocery store, and it rang up for $1.50 - that'll do! One of my favorite Spider-Man toys is a clear blue figure from a few years ago, so I figured clear red should be plenty cool. And indeed it is.
Hasbro moved from its Galactic Heroes/Jurassic Jr./Super Hero Squad-style figures to a format closer to Imaginext a few years ago, and they're still making new toys just like it - which is interesting, as Imaginext seems to be rapidly losing shelf space at most stores.
The 2 1/2 inch figure is a little shorter than 3-inch Imaginext and Playskool offerings, making Spdey the younger hero, or the baby of the bunch. The figure is cast in clear red - a bit cloudier on the arms and legs, clearer on the torso. Metallic blue paint makes up a good part of the costume, with pearl eyes, a silver spider, and a bit of black outlining the mask. The webbing is sculpted in, but completely undecorated. It's a good look for the figure, and I'd love to see them do a clear blue variant some day.
If you just want a plain Spider-Man, this is a good one - but I'll probably buy an opaque one on the cheap if I see it.
