The Ghoul Butler frustrates me, because it's a great figure with no real home. Right now I'm dying for a reissue of the Victorian mansion set from years passed, mostly because it would be awesome in haunted castle colors. Or with cobwebs. This fellow would be right at home with what's left of his formal uniform, vest, and surprising glow-in-the-dark plastic skin. I didn't realize he just wasn't pale until I took him out of the photo room!
As with other blind-bagged figures, assembly is required and it's simple. You know the drill.
The glow deco and black coat go together nicely, plus this is one of very few figures to include a clear display stand. While this ghostly manservant can stand freely, the wight from the tray, the lid, and what I assume is supposed to be a Jell-O skull of some sort will cause him to tip forward - kudos to Playmobil for solving the problem preemptively. Because this company clearly understands toys, he has no problems holding any of his gear and the lid fits the plate perfectly. The skull has plenty of clearance. It's even easy to put the sticker on the plate, with its weird green pasta dish with rotten eggs and a pickle. I think. I guess it's open to interpretation.
This figure closely matches an old vampire/Dracula I've had for a while, what with the purple and everything. The ripped sleeves are an interesting choice which I assume means to invoke being the undead, although his pants are still good so maybe he's just in a Misfits cover band and butlering is his day job. The printed tie, coat, and face all work together to give a bundle of existing parts new life. I'm a sucker for monsters or mutants or other weirdness in this format, and I'll buy every ghost or ghoul they make. When can we get a lady ghoul?
I love this figure - I started shelling out for bags specifically to get this figure. If you can get one, you should, because he's going to be at home somewhere later. Maybe he'll menace the Ghostbusters, or maybe they'll make a new haunted castle theme some day, or dare I hope for a real haunted house? I suppose you can also use the arms and head to make other custom ghouls or zombies, so it has some value as spare parts. The pink skull just weirds me out more and more. Did they mean to imply it's a brain? If so, this is totally a zombie water. Heck, maybe it is a zombie waiter. That would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it?
