I like getting different things in these packs, like the Skeleton Warrior. I couldn't tell you if he's dead... or undead but he's pretty neat. You can see tattered remains of clothes, decaying sleeves, and even printed bone on the body indicating that time has not been kind to what's left of this guy. He has a crown - was he a king? Remainders of chainmail and a rusty sword make me think this is a guy you find dead in a cave, rather than a vengeful ghoul.

It's always tough to know what Playmobil's inspirations may be - sometimes they go for something generic, like a mechanic. Other times they come up with something like on off-model-but-close Aeon Flux figure, but this one I don't know. If it was a pirate I'd say Goonies, but from where I sit it just looks like a fantastic archaeological find, just like kids ages 5-10 hope to get out of a mystery bag figure. (Well, I probably would've gotten a kick out of it.)

I like the accessories - the crown, shield, and sword are all existing parts. The shield is notable in that it has printed markings on it that appear to be faded by time or the elements, with the mold having the nub used to align stickers in older themes. (Goodness knows I've stickered a lot of viking shields.) The rusty sword has all kinds of nicks in it, possibly from rust or combat. Or a monster? Let's say a monster. The figure has a place to stow the sword on the back of his belt, and there are shoulder pieces to bulk him up. (Mine came with a second chain mail piece - your mileage may vary.)

Deco is pretty good, with the bony unpainted head on top of a standard body with a neck peg adapter. You can use any regular Playmobil gear on him, but do you really want to cover the tattered blue clothing or the visible bones? I don't. They don't glow like the ghost pirates, so let's just assume this is a decaying corpse that you can put in your weird caves. (Surely you have some by now.)

What's funny about my decades of buying Playmobil is that some things serve absolutely no purpose for years. My Lost Island Set [FOTD #1,584] sat on a back shelf until I realized the plants were the perfect Star Trek original series scenery. I had a clown that sat in a box until I realized adding a knife to it made it super creepy and awesome. And who didn't put the DeLorean in one of their gold mine playsets? Similarly, this kind of skeleton figure would be right at home in the old 3674 Knights Ruin, or perhaps the 3017 Treasure Cave. None of this means anything to most of you, but trust me when I say that keeping around whatever sets you find on clearance generally pays off in terms of finding fun ways to futz with your new toys later. I genuinely have no idea when a figure may prove useful, or the perfect addition to some playset I already have and didn't realize was missing something. This seems like a great figure for long-term fans or people who just like creepy characters.
