I was super surprised to get Ninjor in the mail. It looks like the last wave of figures came out super early, but we'll see if they do an encore or not - the mini-comics sure seem like they're done.

This guy is bizarre, putting forth the idea that Ninjor may have always been a secret dragon man. That's a heck of an idea, but if that were the case I'm not thrilled with the clear purple biceps and thighs. We get really good hands and forearms, a nifty neck and head, plus articulated wings. And a sword. It's a pretty beefy package.

I assume we got this figure and/or Hordak because of the shared tooling - they have the same wings. The uniquely textured forearms and four-fingered hands look really cool, and might not be a bad place to start a hypothetical update to Draego-Man. His armor has a nifty spiked collar that tends to rattle around a bit, plus you've got a neck piece to insert to give the "Reptile Wars" snake neck to this figure. I find the joints around the neck and wings to be a little loose for my liking, though.

It's a neat - if chaotic - design. The wings are huge. The classic Ninjor symbol on the chest no doubt influenced the very nicely sculpted dragon head with painted teeth, gums, hair, and an articulated jaw< I liek the armor, the costume is pretty great. It's a neat mutant figure, making the most of the parts reuse. For twenty bones, it feels like a worthwhile purchase.

I struggled to get the parts together in a way that allowed him to stay standing while taking pictures, and the head sometimes sagged a bit. I might need to find a way to tighten up the wings and neck sockets, but I was able to better find a "sweet spot" when posing him while writing this review. He's much more stable than some of his peers, but maybe don't expect too much out of him as a toy. He looks awesome on a shelf.

I appreciate the ability to stow the sword in the back of his armor, and I like monsters, creatures, and dragons. While the figure's clear limbs read as "mutant" in the context of this line (see also Rattlor), the comic and package text indicate that we're just seeing Ninjor's true form after forty years. He even grows to a massive size in the comics, and perhaps he could have made for a better deluxe exclusive figure on a larger buck. He's still pretty good, and seems like the kind of cool monster toy I'd want hanging around on my desk. It's a shame this line seems to be about to end, as these nifty mash-ups were a lot of fun. It would have been nice to see the Sorceress for real, or Orko, but it also might pull off the rarest feat in all of collectible toys: ending a line before it overstays its welcome. I've still got plenty of these guys to review, and I'd recommend pretty much all of them to the middle-aged monster toy collector out there. It's a collection that's big enough to be satisfying but small enough to not completely overwhelm your home... goodness knows you've got plenty of other toys already doing that.
