Behold the Bat-Toys! Mattel's DC Universe line has mutated quite a bit, including a new Batman line aimed at kids and based on nothing in particular alongside its popular Four Horsemen-sculpted lines and, of course, Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters. The as-of-yet unmade Green Lantern movie toys were sadly nowhere to be seen, but this isn't exactly a surprise given the unfortunate performance of the film and its licensed products. There's still a market for comic product, though, as you can see.
The neatest and weirdest figures are the Arkham City figure repaints based on the marketing-- these are basically white repaints with some shading, mimicking the unique look in the magazine ads and posters you've seen for this release. Also awesome: the Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters line will including a functional build-a-bat-signal accessory. It really can shine a Batman logo on your wall, and it's battery-powered. Really. I'm surprised, because it's rare that the thing you can build is something that it seems would sell just fine on its own. Only Bane, Catwoman, and Batman were shown to the public with others coming-- but those aren't things I can write about just yet.
It seems Justice League will be continuing, with some of the three-packs being rejiggered so that you won't see quite as many Batman and Superman figures bogging down the new characters. You can see the new releases in the pictures below. During the presentation, it was confirmed we wouldn't be seeing any giant sets like the Justice Society ever again, which, well, that's really OK. As long as the figures come out, right?
