Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Earthrise Deluxe Thrust Action FigureLargely shipping late in December or early January as the caboose of the Transformers War for Cybertron Earthrise line, Thrust - who I remember because he is colored like rust - seems to be a pastiche of Thrust's many toys. This is a nice way of saying it's not a perfect translation of the cartoon, comic, toy, or other designs from over the years - it can disappoint you in many ways, yet also completely meets expectations. If you bought the other six seekers which had shipped prior to this one, there's nothing new about the transformation but you will note new wing tooling to match the original Thrust designs.

Because I am assuming, and indeed hoping, the current line may be the "definitive" collector line given the complexity, pricing, and aging collectors, I'm all for Thrust despite some misgivings about paint chipping and lack of color. As the line approaches the big 38, original fans may not be quite as interested in re-re-rebuying their classic favorites without significant changes. I'm here to tell you that this is a perfectly nice Thrust to get and say "I'm good, thanks" from here on out.

Another paint-by-numbers retool, although I have been made aware that actual paint-by-numbers kits are time-consuming tests of patience of skill, this should scratch your Decepticon thug itch. The robot toy does a pretty good job matching the orange cockpit chest of the original box art, which is generally not how he looks. The ankle wings are there with the unique tips, as are the fan wings hanging off his back. Unlike the original toy, he can only have his cone head mode - which is under his actual nosecone of the jet, which hangs off his back. Articulation is fine as always, but the toy lacks the big Decepticon symbols we all love, and also the air intake coloration or the feet stickers of the original toy. Also, he has Starscream's cannons, opening the door for future accessory pack purchases.

Much like Dirge, take care with this one - paint on the new wing elements is prone to chipping even before you transform it. This one is probably going to need to be more of a display piece, or a piece you repaint or add your own Stege damage to in order to mask imperfections. That's a tip from me to you.

The transformation is just as easy as the other ones, except the wings are a tiny bit different. You can figure it out - it's an easy one after you've transformed a few of these, or the Classics molds from which they were partially inspired. It's not unpleasant, but the robot knees don't fold/click in terribly well and you may find yourself lamenting the lack of landing gear.

The jet looks fine from the top, but you may lament the fact that it looks like there's a landing skid under the cockpit. There isn't - it's a piece to join the cone to the body. The cone itself doesn't have a painted grey tip, which is unusual as always have that feature. There's even one on the vestigial cone head on the robot of this very toy - so why leave it off here? I have no idea. I also don't know why the cockpit is orange, or why the Decepticon symbols are so tiny. It's still a perfectly nice plane with places to mount cannons under the body, plus another weird 5mm port right behind the cockpit for reasons unknown. It doesn't add much to the toy, but it is certainly there to slap on a Battle Master or some other accessory. There are minimal 3mm pegs for C.O.M.B.A.T. fire blasts in jet mode, but there are two on the tips of the cannons - and that's where it counts.

Due to the late release Target may still have these. You can check stock status before putting on pants. This is how we're going to rate this figure - it's good enough that it's worth putting on pants to get one, but you may be able to get it shipped to you or the whole delivery-to-car thing. For the latter I would still advise pants. I like this line-up of Seekers just fine and I hope Hasbro has the desire to do all the obscure Seekers in this scale, and even some of the not-so-obscure ones. The Classics Starscream mold provided the basis for roughly 20 unique characters (and duplicates.) While Hasbro did give us Acid Storm, Ion Storm, Hotlink, and Nova Storm via their Siege Starscream mold there are still plenty of weird Seekers left to do with the Earth mold. For example: Action Masters Thundercracker, Sunstorm, Bitstream, G2 Starscream, G2 Ramjet, Ghost Starscream, Nacelle, plus unreleased-as-toys concepts like the generic Air Warrior, or the likes of "Black Death Starscream," "Cloud Sky" Ramjet, or "Jungle Attack Starscream." It's a rich pit of inspiration.
