Rarely do I have much to say about smell, but this The Nightmare Before ChristmasMayor has a whiff very similar to the Onell Design Glyos figures. It's hard to miss. The figure itself is neat, but it doesn't ring true to the ReAction aesthetic - that is, a shameless replication of the Star Wars form factor of 1978-1985. His foot pegs holes are even a different size - the end result is a better figure that, while not totally out of place in the line, really just shows that there's a sliding scale as far as authenticity goes on this line.
At the hat, the Mayor stands a proud 4 1/2-inches tall. Making this figure right is not a huge challenge, but doing it well is tough. Funko nailed it. The double-face gimmick is replicated simply by rotating his head, and the legs have a new-to-me joint style that seems to be a result of assembling the lower waist with the legs, and later cramming it and gluing it in the main body. Functionally, it works well - despite the tiny feet (and smaller hole size) he has no problems standing on his own. His arms swing freely, and the hands easily grip his two accessories. What's more, each face is perfectly detailed and he has the word "MAYOR" written in perfectly legible letters on his chest, with his spider bolo tie cleanly painted.
Obviously, nothing this good could have existed in the 1980s.
The detail is quite good, and as a $10 Mayor figure I dare say it's great. Sculpted stripes in his pants, painted lips and eyeshadow in his worried expression, and clean lines overall make this figure work quite well. It's not the same as owning the puppet, but the colors do remind me a lot of the animated Beetlejuice cartoon.
As I neglected to snag the Mayor of the 1990s, this is a welcome purchase for me - he's sturdy, stable, and can hold his gear nicely. He can't be posed to bellow in to his horn, but at least he's got that wonderfully manic face and enough personality that you can practically hear the timeless quote "Jack, please, I'm only an elected official here, I can't make decisions by myself!" escape his lips. Get this one too, you'll dig it.
