I bought and opened Quicksilver because I have a fondness for the original line, and because they looked gorgeous. Super7 has made some marvels vac-metal figures in its ReAction Figure line, like the Super7 Metropolis Silver Maria [FOTD #2,454]. She has proven pretty sturdy with time - admittedly, I don't play with any toy as much as I did when I was a kid - but all my 1980s vac-metal silver and gold figures look great. My RoboStrux parts, my Transformers accessories, C-3PO, R2-D2... it's the other colors that sometimes went sideways. A big part of what keeps this kind of paint nice is the materials used for production. If a company uses flexible PVC plastic (the stuff Hasbro uses to make its action figures), the paint will flake and crumble as time goes on. If applied to hard plastic - like ABS - it should hold up for a very long time. Quicksilver seems like he was cast in very hard plastic, but like any new toy we'll see how it ages as time goes on. I don't expect it to flake like the Ultimates! figures, because I am under the impression those were cast in a more flexible plastic - with all the joints, they'd have to be. Mattel made a similar choice for Hurricane Hordak in Masters of the Universe Classics, so anyone taking that gold armor on and off a lot is going to see damage. If you just left it alone, it's probably going to look better longer.
I can't tell you what to do, but if you open Quicksilver or other figures in this line I'd recommend handling them with care, and do your best to never ever touch the fleshy bits or the green painted logo. Looking at Kenner SilverHawks from the 1980s, those are the parts that tend to flake off revealing the sturdy vac-metal paint underneath. If you clip Tally-Hawk on the silver arm, and don't buy any aftermarket wing capes that clip on the arms, I bet he'll look good for a good long time. You're probably 40, and if your kids don't play with it, odds are you won't either..

Super7 hires many sculptors, resulting in numerous styles of figures in its ReAction Figure line. Some are amazingly devoted to replicating Kenner's old slouches and unique posture, giving life to a figure with only five joints. Some others are very stiff, with little visual movement in the clothing or body language. Super7 seems to have opted to replicate something closer to the original toys which just happened to be really stiff. Kenner made them with arms straight up and down, fingers together, posed to either stand around or "take flight" when you squeezed their legs and their wings popped out. They were really nice, but light on sculpted detail. You'll see muscles, a belt, with subtle hints of armor on the person inside. If this figure looks vaguely familiar, it might be its resemblance to the early 1980s work of Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. Go ahead and search his art, but maybe don't do it at work - "sexy chrome lady robots and cyborgs" are his style. I have to believe it influenced the original cartoons and toys a great deal, but perhaps there's another common ancestor I'm missing.

While the articulation is typical Kenner fare featuring one open hand for accessories, one closed fist for punching, Super7 decided to make the deco slightly better than Kenner. An original Quicksilver had eyebrows and some dark paint for his eyes, but lacked the white part. By adding the extra paint, it's a bit more premium and feels like a good mash-up of the best elements from the animation and the figure. You want shiny armor. You want a detailed face. And now, you get both! What you don't get are wings, weapons, or any action features. It would not surprise me to see variant "wings-out, masked face" variations down the road if these prove to be successful. I don't know that I'd buy a second set, but odds are I'll probably limit myself to one version of each character that I remember from the series.
...but you know how these things go, those masks were super-cool and look a lot like Samus Aran or Boba Fett. They go great with the distinctive soft-serve swirl chrome hair. I might not be able to say no. Super7 included one accessory, and it was the right choice - Tally-Hawk! If memory serves he was featured regularly on the cartoon. I got a pencil topper of him from Burger King, he came with Quicksilver figures, and Kenner even made a giant toy of him. He's the mascot of the show, so it's good to have him here. He has soft plastic talons which clip on his partner's arm, and it looks great. I was worried the claws might not be flexible enough or that the chrome would make me nervous, but so far so good. Having said that, I would also recommend considering not storing your bird friends on the figures for long-term displays because you never know how plastic may discolor or corrupt the chrome over time. I will probably 3D print him a little perch if I can find a good one, or make one.
Tally-hawk is lightly painted, with a beak in orange, some yellow eyebrow feathers, and some blue on his head. This is pretty much exactly the level of detail we got from Kenner, so I can't complain.

The ReAction Figures I like the most are of characters I absolutely must have as a toy, and the figures that look like they are actual lost 1980s toys. This is more of the latter category. I've got my original Quicksilver still, and this figure feels like the same team from back then came up with an alternate execution of the concept. A Star Wars-style figure is obviously not the action feature-laden toys we got out of Kenner as the 1980s went on, but it has a nice cardback, it looks cool, and it's an affordable, hopefully durable way to buy the character in 2025. (Also, can you believe we're getting this stuff 39 years later?)
