The 1990s were a pretty exciting time to collect Batman toys. There were cartoons, comics, movies, and new characters and eventually, Kenner decided to do Legends of Batman for comic book-inspired and, apparently, original concepts for Batman. Knightquest Batman comes from the whole "Knightfall" story arc, where Batman got busted up and a crazier vigilante went out and fought crime in his place for a bit. Like with Future Batman, I was oddly excited for this one. The idea of armored Batman struck me as a good one.
The figure is bright red, and looks more or less like Azrael from the comics. There are other more accurate ones, but this was Kenner in the 1990s, where you got 5 joints and you liked it.
Bats isn't meant to fit in a vehicle, he's meant to stand around and look cool. These overly muscular figures have extreme poses and came out during a period where companies like Playmates and Kenner clearly understood that there were adult collectors out there, so the company started to walk the tight rope over the sea of kids with the collectorgators underneath. The black and gold paint sit nicely over the bright red figure, and the gold paint held up particularly well.
He's cheap-- 1990s figures generally are-- so I'd say he's worth a look. The massive wings filled the entire bubble, but it's possible you'd rather have those wings in red. if so, Ultra Armor Batman is what you want. It's more likely you don't want either given how nice the recent Mattel offering shave been, but it's amazing to look back on Batman toys and realize you could buy a ton of these on the cheap if you were so inclined. The rocket launcher is nifty, but doesn't feel integrated into the design. I miss the 1990s.
