Of all the versions announced so far, this flavor of The Monster feeds my Frankenstein needs nicely. Each version is similar-yet-different from the now-classic Universal design, but this one has the oddly-shaped head and hair, plus the green skin and tattered suit. As such, he works. With big bulky eyebrows and sunken eyes, he fits the bill of a figure that's close to, but different enough for legal reasons, version of the classic movie ghoul.
Of the many figures in this collection so far, this is a relatively simple one. There's only printing on the front of the figure, there are no real accessories to speak of, and it's basically just a minifigure with a "hat" to make up the rest of his head. It turned out great, and to be honest it's not a monster that demands accessories. Sure, a villager with a torch or pitchfork would be nice, but the only things that make sense for Frankenstein (to most people) would be flowers or a small girl to throw around. The detail is great, and the bandages put a 20th century spin on the much-older monster's design. It's a clever departure from the usual stitches and staples, some of which are still present on his torso.
There are multiple versions of the Monster, the first of which was sold around 2002 in the LEGO Studios line. This Series 4 Minifigure was the second version. The Crazy Scientist's Monster in LEGO Monster Fighters is #3, and a similar take on this kind of creature is slated for the big Monster Fighter Haunted House later this year. If you can get him cheap (and you probably can), you should. This version is better than the more expensive ones in the larger sets, but if you're buying those sets anyway I would say it's still a solid upgrade.
