The Genie gives us another cultural artifact in brick form, this time eschewing the standard template for a new, single non-jointed piece to act as the sorta ghostly leg appendage. It trails down to the ground and plugs in nicely to the base or the lamp accessory, pretty much granting your wishes for a blue Genie to stand around and look Genie-like.
To those of us in the West, a Genie is basically a dude with a beard who lives in a lamp and is magic. This simplifies things a bit, but hey, we're Americans, and we don't do our homework. Taking inspiration from countless stories and more than a few cartoons, the LEGO incarnation of the figure sports an open vest, a matching turban, and for reasons I flat out do not get, golden hands. The gold belt and accessories, I can get, but hands? I don't remember that in the Bugs Bunny cartoons. The happy fellow has a big smile along with a drawn-in jawline of sorts, fairly thick eyebrows and almost ridiculously developed muscles. The lower torso features no decoration, which is not at all surprising.
This is a figure I think I'd have enjoyed a heck of a lot more as a kid, given the supernatural nature caters to imaginations and play. Today, it's more of a shelf piece as I can't find a reason to include one in a big city block or a street setting, making this collectible figure something that you're probably just going to collect. The design is good, it's colorful, but your enjoyment of it is probably going to be entirely up to the limits of your own imagination. This gives the edge to kids.
