For Q4 2026, we'll be reviewing Jurassic Park and Jurassic World toys every Thursday. You're welcome! You missed some good toys.
I've worked in and around the toy business for quite some time, and in those times I get access to press or industry showrooms because it's my job and/or people find me delightful. (It's the former.) On one of those jobs, I saw Roarin' Real Feel Carnotaurus tucked on the bottom of a shelf, theoretically out of my eyeline, and just made a beeline over to look at it. As one does. That's how you know a toy is good - if a strange, grown man loses all interest in anything going on and goes over to look at a dinosaur toy. It came out in 2024, but I didn't buy it because I assumed it would kick off a return to collecting Mattel Jurassic World toys. It was the second one I wound up buying in 2026 after I picked up the Triceratops. It's a new mold, seemingly based on previous Mattel sculpts but decorated like a Kenner "Demon" Carnotaurus from around 1994. I remember seeing the black and red original, but largely steered clear of Jurassic Park because I generally liked Dino-Riders more and was picking up Star Wars and Star Trek Micro Machines at the time. And then I got this guy, and the floodgates were opened - I had to get Mattel's Kenner-flavored modernized retro toys.
I got it from an eBay seller that had a lot of surplus Target stock on the cheap - I actually assumed it would still be in stock when I posted this, but they ran out.

The long 16-inch animal has big horns, an open mouth, pointy teeth, and the tiniest arms of pretty much any Jurassic World toy. Raptors and T-Rex have positively beefy limbs in comparison. This dinosaur wasn't on my radar when I was in peak dinosaur years (before it was squashed by a rather unpleasant teacher, at which point I pivoted to Star Wars and Nintendo full-time) as it was only discovered in 1984 and most books at the library weren't new. You might see something in a science magazine back then, but I didn't know about this 1984 discovery until Kenner made a toy of it. It's based on one skeleton find, which stops around the knee and is missing half of the tail. Mattel has been making these guys as long-legged beasts, and is it correct? Heck if I know, but it looks cool. The three-toed death bird of prehistory has painted toe claws, but Mattel left the fingers black. The mouth interior, teeth, and eyes are fully painted. This one particularly looks like an older toy thanks to the black plastic requiring you paint thick (or multiple) layers of paint to prevent hte black from poking through. In some spots, it works, and in others, it doesn't - you can see places where it was a little thin. I don't mind, it feels authentic.
Thanks to Camp Cretacious and its ongoing toy line, and Disney's Dinosaur movie, there are tons of Carnotaurus toys on the market. I picked up the first Fallen Kingdom one, which has a snapping jaw feature that's fun. This one just roars, and you can pose its arms, ankles, and legs. It's a pretty simple toy, but far more complicated than anything most kids could get when I was at prime dinosaur age. I had no trouble getting her to stand, and the roar button is hidden in its spiked back. It's a flexible, rubbery plastic skin that goes over a harder frame. Mercifully the battery compartment and speaker are exposed in the belly, easily accessed and replaced as needed.
The skin texture is quite good, with loads of sharp bumps and tons of little folds and creases. Maybe she has a skin condition - that would explain all the red skin on top. Nothing about this looks like it should blend in with nature, making this more of a "monster" than a recreation of an ancient animal. And I'm OK with this - the nod to Kenner's "Demon" was a fun choice. The Kenner original is $150 with none of its accessories, and I got this one for under $20. This one wins.
The toy has two features. One, you can open her left thigh to reveal a sticker with scannable DNA. There are also sculpted muscles in the door, which is a nice touch. The second feature is a roar button hidden in her back, which reminds me of my old Bull T-Rex toy. I was surprised to find she has multiple roars, so keep pushing the button to cycle through them all.
I like the slightly exaggerated "demon" horns, the yellow eyes are great, and it feels big. If Wikipedia's estimates are correct, this 1:18 scale-ish replica is actually a little small. And I'm OK with that, I don't need it to be bigger. These things take up a lot of shelf space. Unlike some later "Real Feel" dinosaurs, this one doesn't swallow figures or have an open belly. However if you flip it over, you can see the speaker and aw white-painted belly.
As of 2026, you can get one of these for what Target charged or less. Over the last few years, most brick-and-mortar toy store exclusives wind up on sale or clearance, I assume thanks to lofty production quantities mixed in with rising prices thanks to oil and tariffs. I didn't feel compelled $35 for this, but I'm loving it for under $20. (Do I know where it's going on the shelves? Well, no, that's starting to be a problem.) Dinosaurs are among the very worst figures for collectors because you'll probably need to turn them sideways and they take up tons of space - but they're way cooler than collecting humans with different hats or belts. Over two years, the "Reimagined" line has squirted out 10 boxes of toys - some multi-packs, some single - and the whole shebang would have cost around $400 if collected at full retail price. These are not cheap toys - but they're pretty good.
Given some of the lower prices on eBay, I'd recommend it. $20 or so shipped for a big dinosaur, in bright red/pink? I have no reason to steer anyone away from a bright, fun, roaring Kenner reference. While she lacks a snapping jaw, you're buying this because you're old and you wish you had the one Kenner made 32 years ago.
