I got this set with The Alien, Parker, Brett from work as a low-priced bundle that was put together by *checks notes* me. Hey, I do good work! I love to buy toys and sometimes I scoot away from things lest I fall in again - ReAction Figures were one of those categories, and I fell off the deep end again in late 2022 and especially spring 2023.

Why is this set interesting? The Alien is covered in blood and has a retooled head with the fully-extended jaws. I think Parker and Brett on single cards were exclusive to NYCC. If you didn't get the single-carded guys, this is a good set to get and rip open. Sadly, the single figures and this set don't include accessories.

When it comes to The Alien you've got a lot of options. With a "new" (now old) sculpt based on a 1979 Kenner prototype, Super7 and Funko released this figure multiple times. You can get a black one, a metallic one, blind boxed ones, and bloody ones. The bodies are all largely the same, but this one has a new head with a retooled mouth. The tongue jaws are permanently extended and a little more robust, as the standard ones look something like a tongue. I assume Kenner would've revised it, but they wanted to make something look like the original prototype when this line kicked off over 10 years ago. This figure - minus the blood splats - would probably be a lot closer to the kind of thing Kenner would have made if this figure saw release while Carter was still in office.

Between The Alien [FOTD #852] debuting as a straightforward replica of that prototype and the more toy-like Alien (with Metallic Flesh) [FOTD #1,183], honestly, I don't need more of these. I love that they really made a meal out of this design, which in an alternate universe would have been hanging out in Creature Cantinas with Greedo and Hammerhead. This giant monster has incredible sculpted detail with tons of ridges and spines with other minor H.R. Gigery details - it's great. This time it has a clear colorless dome (like the metallic one), but also sports glow-in-the-dark spots (like the original one.) It really feels like a great revision of a toy nobody got in the first place, and if I could get a not-bloody one I'd probably pick it up.

The dome on mine seems stuck on the back, so I'm going to assume it isn't removable - but your mileage may vary. Otherwise it has no accessories, but is pretty freaking cool. If you don't have any versions of this creature, get one. Not necessarily this one, but whatever one is to your liking. They're wonderful.

The 3 3/4-inch scale Parker gave me a panic attack because I heard a little "crack" when rotating his arm - quite a few of the early Funko x Super7 ReAction Figures I bought wrenched themselves open due to design flaws, causing severed heads and limbs left and right. So far he hasn't actually snapped open or broke anything, but I'm keeping an eye on him. There aren't exactly a ton of Yaphet Kotto figures, so it's nice to have one - but they left his beard off, and I think his coveralls are the wrong color. It's hard to know for sure, and it's also tough to judge some of these things because of the style of action figure. On one hand, it should look right as other figures in this collection were improved to look better than the prototypes. On the other, Kenner (especially in this era) played fast and lose with on-screen authenticity. A clean-shaven Parker with a yellower outfit seems like it might be pretty close to what Kenner would have manufactured.

Ash, Dallas, Ripley, Kane, and the Alien were all based on real Kenner designs. As far as I know, Parker, Brett, and Lambert were done by Super7. While they did a good job simplifying the designs, the last few new guys are all a bit more stiff. There's no unique slouch, the figures lack the body language and personality of the older guys. They also fit right in on a shelf - if you're waking by them, everybody fits together and you can see things like similar sculpted knees on the pants and a belt that seems to be in the same design language as what we got on Ash. But they also seem like they were posed to be very simple and at-attention figures, which is a shame. It appears that his torso was molded in yellow with his head, arms, and legs molded in brown - it looks a little weird in spots, particularly his sleeves and pant legs. But, again, taken as part of a collection it does fit right in.

The last man standing is Harry Dean Stanton's Brett. He's a little smaller and a little thinner, but the figure has much of the same design language as classic Kenner figures. His jacket looks a lot like what Luke Skywalker had at the end of Star Wars, but in a different color, plus he has a swell hat. Because the figure looks like it came from the 1970s, the hat patch and Aloha shirt detail were all left off - I admit I wish it had more detail, but I don't know that it could be captured while retaining the Kenner look and feel. The arms and legs swing nicely, and while the hint of his facial scruff is gone, they did a good job of making him look like Harry Dean Stanton. He's a little emaciated, but I think it works in the context of this line.

My big complaint about this figure, and it might be specific to my sample, is there are some places on his jacket that seemed wet when they put him in the box. It's pushed down in spots and it doesn't look fantastic - the factory painters did their job, but you can't put wet paint in a box and expect good results. It's hard to see, but once you see it you can't miss it.

He also has no accessories - having a flamethrower, alien detector, or chestburster in the box would do wonders to really making it a complete or at least final statement on the once-lost legendary Kenner Alien toy line. I doubt anybody is going to take another crack at this style of figures for this license, so I'm glad they finished up the entire human cast of this movie. It's a very specialized product for a particularly specific kind of collector, specifically guys my age who are me.

Given the designs were from a post-Star Wars movie from 1979, these guys look like they would have fit right in kid's toy box from that era. For the kids of that era who will never be able to let go this kind of toy, the whole set is worth picking up. Who doesn't love having a horrible monster and a couple of space truckers? NECA makes a much nicer, bigger figure... but I don't want nice and big. I want something that looks like an old toy, and Super7 nailed it here. If the price is right, get it.
