I saw Giganotosaurus vs. Therizinosaurus at a few Target stores in late 2025, but the price was too high. If it hit a decent clearance level, I never noticed it - but I was able to weasel one off eBay for $31.50 shipped. The staggering 28-inch-wide box shows Mattel's continued loathing of any of its customers who sell to the Internet, but other companies do this too. It's one of the biggest items I've seen short of a giant Hot Wheels or Barbie playset, or Hasbro's gargantuan FX Lightsabers. To say the least, it is Move Year Product, Store Exclusive, Collector Catnip, and Gift Set all in one. This is the kind of thing we stopped seeing from Hasbro in Star Wars a while ago, because it's a zany item that's priced fairly competitively against other products in the line.

For those in the future, this set brought two big dinosaurs from Jurassic World Dominion and put them out as a Christmas item at Target shortly after the release of Jurassic World Rebirth. That gave it a shorter selling season than the other exclusives, and obviously the high price point had a limited potential audience. Which means I got one cheap on eBay, thanks to closeout sellers.

I don't remember reading about Therizinosaurus as a child, but maybe that's because it was discovered in the Gobi Desert in 1948. I remember seeing some colorful Schleich toys of it, but it looked more like a murder lizard instead of Freddy Krueger Bird Monster. While we did see this guy in stores, apparently this is a different mold. Mattel took out the sound effects, so this one just slashes its claws. Y ou can open the mouth, rotate the hips, hands, or feet, and move the tail around. Her neck is jointed in two spots, and I was able to get some decent poses out of this action-feature figure.

She doesn't have the DNA tab in her back, but instead has it on the foot. I assume fewer parts means lower costs, but I'm more surprised Mattel just didn't reissue the old mold without the sound chip. I really prefer the feathered look that both the movie and toy went with, mostly because the bird/sloth plucked version just struck me as odd. Mattel painted dark spots on the figure which looks almost more like skin than feathers... but you can't miss the textures. The brown coloration reminds me a lot of my Kenner Young T-Rex, which is probably why I found this one so appealing. She stands about 8 1/2-inches high and about 13-inches long, but you can adjust the head or tail if shelf space is an issue.

The figure has an impressive sculpt and an expressive sneer, with yellow eyes, painted teeth, and a pink tongue. All her claws are painted, making this feel like a robust design. If I got this alone for $30, I'd feel pretty good about it.

Dug up in 1993, the Gigonotosaurus was off my radar as a kid. It's very big, with a giant head that's based on an incomplete skull discovery. But it's also a movie monster, redecorated and given the classic "gulper" Bull T-Rex treatment. This one has a split open belly and an open mouth. You can cram small figures down the throat and rescue/excrete them through the slit. It's very small, so I had to retrieve small figures out of the mouth. As such, I don't think it was a good mechanism... but the jaw opens up very wide, and that's pretty neat. There's a road button hidden on her back, and her big feet help her stand. The sculpted skin texture is on par with the rest of the line, and her teeth are separately molded rubbery pieces. The arms and legs are harder plastic, and are notable in that they're jointed. In the 1990s, the legs were rarely jointed on "real feel" dinosaur toys.

Her coloring is a light green with an even lighter green belly, completed by a rosy pink hue on her throat. It looks familiar, but I can't quite remember which old toy this might be referencing. Kenner had somewhat similar coloring in a Stegosaurus and a few Pacycephalosaurus toys, but neither is an exact match. I don't absolutely love the paint, since I'm noticing that light cilantro dressing paint already seems to be cracking in a few spots. I don't know how it will hold up over time, I know I treated my few "Real Feel" Kenner dinos with extreme care after noticing paint flake off in the first weeks in 1993. It's like a dinosaur portrait of Dorian Grey.

I don't like this one as much as her companion, but she's impressively sized. Snout-to-tail, she's about 22-inches long and stands about 11-inches high depending on how high you want her head to go. I think I would be more excited if it wasn't "real feel," as I assume that would hold up better to the ravages of time.

If you can get this at the low prices on eBay these days, it's going to make some kid incredibly happy. I think they'll look amazing as part of my small but growing dino herd, but I don't think the Giganotasaurus makes for a terrific "gulper" toy. The Therizinosaurus makes for a great fighting toy, though, so props to Mattel for making a cool figure that can slash and attack the other figures.
