New York's American International Toy Fair February 13, 2011
Welcome to the Twilight Zone! Also: Go Team Venture, You're F#@!ing Out, something or other Lost, and so on! For the past few years Bif Bang Pow! has picked up on a number of oddball licenses and given them a home, resulting in some really nice, often obscure toys and collectibles. This year, the big announcements were probably Doctor Who and Twilight Zone, the latter of which has been expanded to include mugs, license plate holders, William Shatner characters, and other items. Heck, there were even some nice tile coasts.
The REALY BIG Mystic Seer and Talky Tina Prop Replicas are new, and are for pre-order in the new Entertainment Earth catalog already. Tina actually talks and the final piece will be a vinyl doll. The Seer seems to be a mixed media piece, made of some metal with a working fortune dispenser and napkin holder. Fancy!
Doctor Who toys currently include an 8-inch scale new Mego-esque figure line with 4 figures including a Cyberman of significant rank, Doctor Who the fourth, and a couple of others. A TARDIS "bobble head" was also shown and confirmed to be a Comic-Con 2011 exclusive. I am not sure to the full extent of the license, but it's my understanding it's pretty extensive as characters and products go. (Obviously, it won't jump on Underground Toys' toes.)
The Adult Swim series Venture Bros. expanded with Dr. Henry Killinger, SPHINX Brock Samson, and confirmation of Shore Leave plus The Alchemist. Exciting stuff-- well, the stuff I saw looked good. The SPHINX Brock has some added paint on the head, complete with the dark circles under his eyes like you're used to seeing on the show. He also has a crossbow, and the prototype has at least one removable arrow accessory.
The Venture Comic-Con exclusives were revealed to be Dr. Jonas Venture Sr. and Rusty Venture, and there's another surprise to this item which, at press time, I am not at liberty to discuss. (I do some consulting for this company, so this came from one of my crazy ideas-- more as I can share it!)
Lost continues with some new bobble heads, including a Comic-Con exclusive polar bear. Presumably, the Monarch can use it to attack prostitutes trying to escape the cocoon. Other new figures were shown like Miles and Sayid, all of which were in the 8-inch cloth outfit format.
The movie Beastly has been delayed for a while and features one of the Olsens and Neil Patrick Harris in a sort of a Twilight sparklepire twist on the old Beauty and the Beast story. Bif Bang Pow!'s line includes a series of EMCE/Mego-esque action figures of numerous characters, plus bobble heads.
