Star Wars really is forever! After over a decade in stores with tons of spinoff merchandise, LEGO Star Wars may be the one true success story to have been born out of The Phantom Menace merchandising onslaught in 1999. While no numbers have been given, word on the street is that these are insanely popular with the kids and potentially taking up a significant portion of the pie, the other portion being owned largely by Hasbro.
While several new offerings just came out in January, there's a bunch of goodies coming out later in the year. Original trilogy stuff is light, but a new Millennium Falcon is the biggest mass-retail release of the ship yet, plus it includes a good selection of figures including Darth Vader and a training version of Luke Skywalker.
The Clone Wars is the line's main focus, with a Dathomir Speeder likely being the season's big hit. It includes Asajj Venturess, Anakin Skywalker, and the first-ever Savage Opress figure which has a new head cap for his horns. It's worth noting he'll share the tooling with Darth Maul in a new Sith Infiltrator, which is joined by new Pod Racers from Episode I which are said to be more stable than the 1999 originals.
Also exciting: the first-ever LEGO figure of Quinlan Vos in the Republic Frigate ship, which also includes Agen Kolar, Yoda, and some Clone Troopers. Start saving now, kids!
