New York's American International Toy Fair February 23, 2011
Surprise, something new! Generally the Playmobil booth at Toy Fair in New York is less than newsworthy, generally because the offerings are what were shown the previous year in Germany-- this is especially true now that the Specials are on a one-year delay, instead of coming out at basically the same time. To keep things interesting, the German toymaker has decided to bring out Playmobil Fi?ures, the blind-bagged figures, to US stores this August. I was told retail should be about $2.99 a piece, and that the figure construction is completely different than normal figures as these are designed to be taken apart and parts are to be swapped.
Other than those, things like Top Agents, a new Christmas theme, and added Zoo items make up the new stuff, although Toys "R" Us stores have been selling a lot of these items since 2010 for some reason or another. (Playmobil apparently offers them some themes early, seemingly at random.) Check out the gallery below for the 2011 Playmobil USA line! (According to the rep who walked me through the booth, Stone Age should not be making an appearance on US shelves this year, but I'm crossing my fingers TRU will come through anyway.)
