The classic ones are on hiatus! I overheard a few licensors mentioning that the big focus of Smurfs this year will be on toys from the big movie, which I would say are just a little too "real" for their own good. The cartoon show of the 1980s had them residing in mushrooms, while the new movie seems to place them in the uncanny valley.
The always delightful Jakks Pacific showroom revealed dozens of new figures and plush toys, including Hank Azaria as Gargamel, or rather, Gargamel Azrael. Complete with vehicles, playsets, and other activities, this could be a good line for the kids... but without a TV show the line may not have long legs, so be sure to get your Gargamel Azaria toys as soon as you can. Or else.
