New York's American International Toy Fair February 20, 2011
The re-re-return of Captain Jack Sparrow! Housewives and people who dress up for renaissance fairs, rejoice! The fourth movie in the moneymaking Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is back, and by "is back" I mean "right now." The Saturday following Toy Fair 2011, I saw these at a Toys "R" Us-- they're not wasting any time getting these out.
In the Jakks Pacific showroom (actually off-site from Javits Center) you could see a big range of products, including Toys "R" Us and Target exclusive items like figure multi-packs and a bonus edition of the Queen Anne's Revenge pirate ship complete with a bonus Blackbeard action figure.
The gimmick this time around in the 4-inch line is a black light-projecting ring (see below) which reveals "zombie details" or some such. The try-me packaging will let you test these out in stores, and it's worth noting the quality of the product, the attention to detail, and articulation all exceed what we saw with Zizzle's line for the second and third films. There are also larger action figures, for those who like collecting competing, incompatible toy lines.
Jakks also had a number of board games on display (not all shown) so this should be a pretty extensive line for a fairly popular brand.
