New York's American International Toy Fair February 20, 2011
As much Nintendo as you're going to get in 2011. Previously sold under the "PopCo" banner, Global Holdings' line of Super Mario and Nintendo toys are pretty hot stuff. Their big vinyl Donkey Kong was hot stuff, but now we're seeing a ton of Yoshi redeco figures alongside Super Mario Galaxy plush and some really nice toys based on older games. Need a Plush Mario riding Yoshi? Well, they got it. And it is pretty dang nice.
I was particularly impressed by the electronic plush, including a question mark block which makes a coin sound when you hit it! If you hit it multiple times, it'll make a 1-up sound. A plush Starman plays a bit of the invincible song, while the Koopa shell makes the recognizable "clop" sound.
Because I'm me, I asked about the possibility of Metroid or a collectible line of Smash Bros. figures. I may as well say something like I'm from another planet, it seems no Nintendo licensee (or perhaps Nintendo as the license holder) is particularly interested in these brands at this time.
