"Hi-yo Silver, Away!" Endlessly referenced in popular culture, but rarely seen by anyone under 40, The Lone Ranger and his pal Tonto will be hitting movie screens and toy stores this year. LEGO has a robust line of sets, and NECA will be doing action figures. While being shown through the booth, a LEGO representative mentioned that the stagecoach set was added to the movie after LEGO showed them a model toy, as it was not initially in the film. True? Hyperbole? Only the commentary track of the Blu-Ray knows for sure!

Since Western-themed sets have been absent for the better part of a decade, the theme has a lot of potential with trains, old buildings, and of course horses. Sure, we've heard people talking about Silver but here he is, in plastic! Tonto isn't just a gag from the Far Side, now he's Johnny Depp as a fairly expressive mini-figure with a dead-but-not-really bird on his head. The Silver Mine Shootout gives us boulders, carts, and dynamite while the Constitution Train Chase is loaded with figures, tracks, and pretty much the bulk of the characters you'd want to buy from the movie.
It's unknown how the movie will do, and LEGO has struggled to find success with new licenses as of late, but the sets look great regardless. The retro yellow packaging looks especially nice as well, so keep an eye open for the Colby City Showdown and other sets between now and the inevitable closeout. These really do look slick up close.
