The Super Smash Bros. Amiibo concept is both absurdly annoying and a gift that keeps on giving. The collectibility is infuriating, but the figures are charming little statues and for $13 are decent. On the secondary market, it's maddening - I like Mega Man but there are quite a few options for my dollar when it comes to collectibles, unlike Samus or Marth. I'm a fan of the old NES games so I had to get this one... and thankfully it's pretty good.

The 3-inch figure (including the base) is a fantastic statue in line with the promo art for Super Smash Bros. Wii U. The dark blue is metallic, as are the light blue highlights on his helmet. The Mega Buster has a red dot inside it, while his right hand and body glove are matte blue. There's an energy meter on the back of the Buster too, with little yellow bars on it. In short, it's great - but not articulated.

Were Nintendo a bigger believer in variants we could have dozens of recolors of this figure, which mercifully has not happened. The figure stands on its base and is, of course, non-removable. The face sculpt is notable in that it's much less goofy than some of the 1990s figures - Toy Biz' Marvel vs. Capcom edition comes to mind - so as a desk toy goes, this is great. As an added bonus, it unlocks some stuff in some games. The Mega Man sprite in Super Mario Maker is one of the reasons I'm glad I own the figure, but I should note it's a new design and not the one in Capcom's classic NES games. So if you've played Super Mario Crossover, it's not quite the same thing.

If the Amiibo line was easier to deal with, I'd have bought a ton more of these - but they're not, so I don't. I'll snag more as I can because most are nicely made, well-painted, nifty collectible figures that have an added NFC ability to unlock stuff in some games. As Mega Man figures go you could do worse, and thankfully the price isn't bonkers yet. Get it if you can.
