While there are a lot of Mario figures, there aren't too many Luigi figures yet. There are some vinyl ones, mini ones, brick ones, but never enough straight-up action figures. While I was itching for a version based on Luigi's Mansion games (as I missed the "Nintendo Power" version from the GameCube era) this is still pretty fantastic.

Unsurprisingly, Luigi is built similarly to Mario. The elbows are built quite differently, and the Luigi neck is swivel-only whereas Mario's has the ability to tilt and rotate. Luigi sports 11 joints and measures a hair under 5-inches tall at the tip of his hat - so he's really big compared to other 3 3/4-inch action figure lines. Deco is on par with Mario, but the white is a tiny bit whiter and the coverage is a bit thicker and cleaner. The whites of the eyes are covered better, and the green paint on the chest matches the green plastic sleeves of the arms nicely.

The sculpting is just as good as Mario's, but the assembly is a bit wonky - you can see a bit of a gap where the nose meets the face, but other than that it's solid. Everything fits nicely, and I was surprised to see the fists are actually slightly smaller than those on Mario. The fact that the overalls are a different shade of blue is similarly surprising.

To no great surprise, the figure comes with a 1-Up mushroom using the same mold as Mario's Super Mushroom. The plastic color matches Luigi's hat quite closely, and is a thick, solid, rubbery plastic material rather than hollow like the "Morph Ball" Samus accessory. The stem is a little more on the pink side, while the white dots are pretty much the same. He can't hold it or carry it or anything, but it's cool and I'd probably have paid five bucks for one were it a Japanese capsule toy. As such, getting it for $10 (or $8 as luck worked out) with a Luigi figure worked out nicely for me.

With slightly improved elbows and less blocky knee joints, Luigi is a good improvement over Mario in every way except for the schnoz. I like how these figures are improving as they go, and I'm hoping Jakks will view these as a potential jumping-off point for exclusive repaints or exclusives with new accessories. Like a Poltergust, or a Polterpup. Until then, this is a fabulous Luigi action figure and given the ever-increasing prices of action figures, it's quite a bargain. It's like the $5 talking Simpsons figures back in 2000, except these don't talk and have more articulation.
