This is a fantastic concept, but a rotten toy. The 8-Bit Luigi is basically made solely for adult collectors' desks at work, or to be converted into a refrigerator magnet.

Standing about 2 1/2-inches tall, Luigi turned out a lot like his on-screen inspiration. This is good, because there are few figures which exist that most buyers could say "I bet I could sculpt that" and probably not be wrong. Adapting the pixel character to be able to stand and look good in three dimensions does take work, so seeing things like a bushy pixel mustache, separated buttons on his overalls, and wider bases to his feet were smart decisions to encourage the figure's upright nature on your workspace.

The sculpting is identical to the Mario figure from this line, so get one, either, or both if you dare. The pixel figure format here relies mostly on your looking at this figure from one position. Unlike the recent 8-Bit Mario Amiibo, Jakks didn't consider what you may want Mario to look like from the front or from the back. Luigi's flip side is all black with copyright information, while his "front" and "back" are just the same colored pixels as you might guess. You can't look at his face head-on.

At the same time, it's good. He can stand and he's thin, but not flimsy. The plastic is nice and tough, so it doesn't feel like it should bend or easily crack.

It doesn't appear that any part of this figure is painted - it's just molded in green, yellow, flesh, white, and black. Packaged in a faux NES cartridge cardback, this is easily one of the greatest treats of the game's 30th anniversary. Pixel Mario merchandise is nothing new, but sold as a mass-market product in the USA? Nobody but Jakks tends to deliver much of that kind of thing. I'm hoping we get Samus Aran or (man oh man) Link from Zelda II next, but who knows? For four dollars at a store, this figure is just as good (if not better) than some of those older Applause figures from when these games were still new. I can't say no to it, even though it can't do anything. I hope we see many, many more.
