Today we look at another Darth Vader, a new sculpt for 2012 that I rather like. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!
CNet has an article called It was 30 years ago today the CD began to play to remind anyone who saw the CD as a new, amazing thing that they are old. The first ones hit Japan in 1982, and arguments over audio fidelity continue to this very day.
By an astonishing coincidence, I pulled out my LP collection last week and unpacked them, playing a few each day. Being born just before the death of vinyl and having lived through the wonkiness that is the cassette tape, I'm actually oddly enjoying interacting with big discs featuring large artwork and a pretty decent sound. Not that I would trade in my iPod and the handiness of carrying everything with me all the time, but these are nice too. I remember getting my very own record player, finally, around 1999 at which point I started finding out some CDs cost an arm and a leg (Wall of Voodoo's Dark Continent and the expanded, 2-LP soundtrack to URGH! A Music War being key examples) and others just never made it out on the format (anything by Skafish.)
Unreleased 2011 Jurassic Park "Jurassic Joe" Dinosaur Photos
In case you missed it: JPtoys.net has Jurassic Park 2011 in their archives, which has four little-seen new-sculpt dinosaurs for what we have referred to as "Jurassic Joe" from time to time. Of interest, Allosaurus (pictured), Stegosaurus, Carnotaurus, and the fairly obscure and super-cool Pachyrhinosaurus. Of interest: no visible dino-damage, ball-jointed limbs in some cases, plus loads of articulation. The ball-jointed limbs look more than a little like the recent Tauntauns in the Star Wars line.
They look great and I really hope Hasbro finds it in their hearts to release some of these for the 3-D reissue of the original Jurassic Park next year, licensing agreements willing. I'd buy 'em.
New! A new record and many color variations are coming from Chunklet Industries. First up: Man or Astro-Man? Analog Series Volume 2 on clear vinyl, green vinyl, or black vinyl. It's $7.95 plus shipping (not exactly cheep) but it includes 3 new songs: Communication Breakdown Pt II, Chemical Cats, and All Systems To Go. Chemical Cats is exclusive to the 7-inch. The record will be available in November 2012.
Also: Man or Astro-Man? Analog Series Volume 1 will be repressed on red vinyl, as the orange vinyl is out of print. It's also $7.95. Each 45 will feature one exclusive track, and the other songs (in some format) will be on the band's forthcoming full-length CD/vinyl/whatever release. Also, these records have been made available as MP3s as well, so if you have iTunes or Amazon MP3 credit, digital copies are just three bucks.
The October Toys people revealed a NYCC Exclusive Stealth OMFG Series 1. Like most items being sold at NYCC, they're announced kinda last-minute but hey, better than not making the show right? They go from black to clear, and are pretty nifty.
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star WarsFigure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's #500! Irwin Toy Predasaurs Kallan Trading Figure is a cool but bizarre throwback to 1980s dinosaur toys and skee-ball prizes. You gotta check these out. Seriously, I can't think of anything else on the market quite like these. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

How grey. The LEGO Minifigures Series 6 Classic Alien is a nifty odd little collectible that has some of the cultural DNA of the mid-1990s, which is nice to see again in brick form. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!
Fortress Maximus Reissue and Other Transformers News
Starting at $350, Encore #23 Fortress Maximus is probably still a better deal than getting the original these days! It looks to be quite similar to the original, but they usually tweak and improve these guys for the reissues lately.
A new game called Transformers Legends seems to use a lot of toys as character models, plus has a swell new Megatron that has the pistol's robot mode with a nice tank. I would freak out for a toy of this. Also interesting: Warpath and Razorclaw, both of which adhere closely to your toys.

What a tease! After a year and change of denials galore, Hasbro sends us this G.I. Joe Kre-o Promo Image showing off figures and an "available at Toys R Us" logo. They're due out in February, and based on the logo I'm going to go ahead and assume the launch is an exclusive one.
This week's batch on the DSi Ware Shop: Academy: Chess Puzzles for 200 points/$2. It's all of the fun of puzzles with the nonstop action of chess.

Also up for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console: Dr. Mario for $1.99, and it's a GameBoy classic puzzle game. I spent hundreds of hours playing this one when it came out over 20 years ago. That's what people did before iPhones and internets.
Xbox fans, this week's games were delayed until today. NiGHTS into dreams..., a $10/800-point port of the Dreamcast game including the rare Christmas mode. Microsoft says:
"Slip off into the dream world and go on an aerial adventure as NiGHTS in this classic Saturn remake. Collect Ideya (colored orbs), rack up points, and battle bosses to help Elliot and Claris save Nightopia from Wizeman the Wicked. With all 7 original dreams, enhanced graphics, achievements, leaderboards, and playable content from Christmas NiGHTS, this beloved title is back and better than ever."
Also new: Sonic Adventure 2. It's $10/800 points and is another 3D port of another 3D Sonic game that you can pretend you like but really, nobody liked Sonic after the Genesis, not even you.

Of all the years to not be there... argh! Well, at least you are reading this and can go. If there's a unique beast there, kindly steal one for me. Thank you muchly!
Chicks! Mel Birnkrant Reveals the Outer Space Women Figure Concepts over at his own pages, but let's go to the Outer Space Men News Blog to read about them first. The concepts are not dated to be a figure released which you can buy just yet, but are possible releases for after when Terra Firma comes out (most likely) late in 2013. Five concepts are shown, six are listed, and many are partially based on existing alternate designs from Mel Birnkrant except now they've got a nice rack. Neat stuff.
Brains! Goboids Preview Wave Launched, Sold Out. Eight nifty hand-molded giant brains went up for sale over the weekend and are now gone. A future run has a nifty brain pan thing which is hard to describe, but is worth seeing. We've got more at the Glyos News Dump.
Also, take a look at Weaponeers of Monkaa: Empyreus Exploded for a look at all the parts and pieces of the figure. We'll look at it more in Figure of the Day next week.
Good stuff! Do check it out, especially if you held on to enough High School German to compensate for your failures at College German. (Thanks for the reminder, Chris!)
If the big haunted house wasn't enough, check out the LEGO 10937 Arkham Asylum Breakout which is due out in January. It's really big, and $170... but with a ton of hard-to-find and/or new villain figures. It looks supremely impressive.
Of particular note: orange suited Joker and Dr. Harleen Quinzel!

I dig this one lots. The Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics Vykron has a whopping three solid costumes, which is Mattel's way of telling my old Kenner Quick-Change Batman to suck it, I think. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!
He-Man.org has shots of a new game called He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe. Hack, slash, repeat-- it sounds fun! It's listed as only being on iOS, hopefully someone will talk to Glitchsoft about porting it to a platform which has controllers with buttons, as I would buy that.
It's at the Glyos News Dump! Technically. Not Ironhide! The Hasbro Transformers Prime Sergeant Kup is both an excellent toy and a reminder of the Japanese Ironhide that'll cost you an arm and a leg. Even at the increased price of $15.50, this is a swell figure worth owning. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!
Ben Yee of BWTF.com fame posted New York Comic Con 2012 Hasbro Panel on the Faces Book. Highlights include: Beast Hunters, a new line where it seems Predacons (and Terrorcons) may be in play, more Generations including Omega Supreme, plus more Kre-o as that line seems to what the kids would call a great set of gams.
Both fans of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will be getting an HD port of Darkstalkers Resurrection, a $15/1200-point bundle of the fan-favorite Capcom monster-based fighting games. If you've never played it, picture Street Fighter II with mummies, vampires, and lots of boobs. The game will include Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 arcade ports, so yeah, Vampire Saviour all the way. It was announced at New York Comic Con and Joystiq has the scoop. I'm excited and you should be too.
(Oh yeah, if you don't know these games, you'll recognize the characters from Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.)
Like Mego in the 1970s, it seems LEGO is the go-to home for all superheroes and pop culture icons in the modern era. FBTB.net has LEGO Previews TMNT 79104 The Shellraiser Street Chase with a few shots of the set coming in early 2013. The Battle Beasts News Blog has the scoop: NYCC Battle Beasts Minimates: New Deco, Weapons with pictures thanks to our pal Nik. We get the first glimpse at a few new weapons, plus alternate (and I assume Toys R Us-exclusive deco) for a number of the figures we've seen previously. Do check them out!
Castle Grayskull will measure a whopping 25-inches high, 26-inches wide, and 26-inches deep (6-inches when folded up) with tons of accessories. The preorder is $250.00, not $200.00, and will ship in 2013 if enough orders are collected between October 16 and January 13.
Good stuff! Do check it out, especially if you held on to enough High School German to compensate for your failures at College German. (Thanks for the reminder, Chris!)
Surprise! Outer Space Men Jack Asteroid Sculpt Debuted at NYCC meaning, apparently, that this is actually going to happen at some point. No release year has been confirmed, but it's widely assumed that 2014 will bring us Colossus Rex, Gamma-X, and Terra Firma. Will Jack Asteroid join them, or be a 2014 release? Heck if I know, but enjoy the picture because it looks like a great figure.
There's also a clearance sale (which stings) and preorders for the Beta series figures sold at NYCC (which also stings) and you can read about those at, you guessed it, the Outer Space Men News blog.
Thanks to our pal Seth and various tweets and posts to the October Toys Forum, find Glyos October Sneak Peeks at NYCC at the Glyos News Dump. All three new Armorvors are shown, as is a new Pheyden, a clear Crayboth, plus a scented, Strawberry Shortcake-inspired Callgrim. It's an exciting time!
Isn't that a surprise! powerlords.blogspot.com now exists, and we're writing it, because someone posted a countdown to December 21, 2012 at powerlordsreturn.com. There was a little buzz about this brand over the last few years, but the WHOIS? information doesn't quite confirm who all is doing this... or if it's a cruel hoax. More as we have it!

Courtesy of friend of the site Nik, check out this NYCC Diamond Select Toys Minimates Gallery! There was a big 10th Anniversary set-up at New York Comic Con showcasing a smattering of a whopping ten friggin' years and roughly 1,000 figures, including concept art and some of the very earliest figures. We've got about 66 pictures, so get your kicks right here and if you see Nik, please be sure to thank him for me. At Matty Collector, Castle Grayskull is up to order right now for $250.00. If enough orders are placed by November 10, it'll get made and preorders will remain open until January 3. Unless things change, which, well, sometimes they do.
It'll cost $250.00 plus shipping, which is a not-too-shabby $19.65 to my address although I've heard people see $50.00ish. Anyway, order it, or don't. It's huge... about a solid 9-inches bigger than the 2002 version.
There's a Zappa 7-inch record, a trio of Captain Beefheart 45s, and other stuff from the Rolling Stones, Biz Markie, Beach Boys, David Bowie, and other artists your dad probably likes.

I was griping how I didn't have a cheap way to get the entire Avengers figure crew on the cheap, and then out of nowhere comes this Hasbro Target Exclusive 8-Pack Avengers Figure Collection for $49.99. ($6.24 per figure.) What do you get? I'm so glad you asked.
Iron Man: seems to be a slight redeco of the Shield Blaster Iron Man. Paint feels a little uneven in spots. Blaster dropped.
Captain America: Retooled Shield Launcher Cap with new head, different deco, no holster. Arguably more movie-authentic.
Hawkeye: One of the SHIELD symbols seems to have been dropped. Launching arrows dropped. Seems darker overall in the costume colors.
Black Widow: Much less deco. Grey stripes and silver zipper from single figure removed. Spider symbol changed a bit, now a solid red mark and not an outline. Grapple launcher not included, but both pistols and holsters are present. Deco is better, the red stripes are moved a bit and thicker, there are some differences around the silver in the armor. Arms have some added blue on the underside of the forearm. Boots now have a lot of silver and are not mostly black. Visually, it stands out as being different.
Hulk: It's Gamma-Smash Hulk with brownish/purplish pants and more dirty deco. It has a "smash" action feature that is preposterously fun.
Thor: Shock Strike Thor, minus the launching hammer accessory (but you do get a normal hammer.
Loki: Cosmic Spear Loki. Snap-out blades dropped. Deco changes: horns all gold, no bronze. Boots added some gold trip to the front.
Nick Fury: Same as the recently released Assault Squad Nick Fury, but the silver is much, much brighter. Includes one small pistol, all other accessories dropped.
Speaking as a part-time Marvel collector (I think my stash of 3 3/4-inch figures was maybe 30 figures before this set) I'm really happy with it. I don't keep tabs on everything, but I can say I dug this enough to suggest anyone who doesn't already have these guys look into it... and consider maybe finding a better Iron Man.
Be sure to send in your questions for the next thrilling update!

Your mileage may vary, but the Hasbro Marvel Masterworks Sentinel (the big talking one with Wolverine) is hitting a lot of Ross stores in our neck of the woods. The bulk of them are the dark purple/silver face version, but I found one with the fleshier colored head and purple-on-darker-purple deco (like the SDCC version) yesterday. Ross stores are getting them in bulk for $24.99 each, while TJ Maxx is reportedly getting them for around $30.
As someone with a very small Marvel collection I gotta say, I'm super-impressed by it. Well worth the $25, especially since a 3 3/4-inch Marvel Universe figure is about $10 these days.Good hunting!
...for those keeping track, the only other Masterworks figures are Galactus (which has long since departed this plastic mortal coil) and also the unreleased-so-far orange Fin Fang Foom. (I'd rather they just put out the green one again.)
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star WarsFigure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!

Video: Mass Effect 3 M3 Predator Full Scale Replica from TriForce
We got a look at something really cool... and really heavy! The Mass Effect 3 M3 Predator Full Scale Replica from TriForce is an impressive beastly weapon replica cast in resin, so it has a cool feel while retaining a lot of detail like faux rivets and graphics printed on the gun from the game.
It's big and heavy, limited to 600 pieces. As such, it costs about $400, which makes sense considering it's heavy enough to really hurt someone if you hit them with it.

As I'm going through the old ALIENS vs. Predator comics this week, I'm actually ridiculously excited to get some new Predator toys right about now. Looking at things, they could show up pretty much any time now!

Now at the Glyos News Dump: I like this Micronaut-Themed Glyan Custom from Nanite. The red figure looks really cool, and begs the question "Why can't we all have one of these?" It's part of a new small run of customs, so do go check those out.

It's been a while, but with good cause. Something smells awesome! A new Callgrim figure (we don't know the name, so let's go with Strawgrim) is coming Friday, November 2, at 9 PM Eastern. This reportedly scented action figure is the first-ever Glyos release to include, according to our source, (thank you Jesse!) vintage Kenner Strawberry Shortcake odors. That's pretty amazing and arguably one of the only ways to make this line even more awesome. What's next, ooze? Nicely done, Jesse!

The series concludes! The Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Raph as the Mummy figure is a favorite, and the reason I actually went and got the entire line back when they came out nearly... ugh... 19 years ago. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!
