It's one of the toys I grew up with! The Fisher-Price Adventure People Alpha Star Astronaut comes with an alien, a robot, and a big space camper vehicle. It's so good that after this hit the garage sale at the behest of my parents, I bought another one during college. That's how you spend your nest egg! So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

Rare Man or Astro-Man? Artifacts on eBay

MusicAstro-TasticA number of genuinely rare and exciting artifacts from the band Man or Astro-Man? hit eBay from the collection of their drummer, best known as Birdstuff. For example: Pinball machine artwork which you've likely never heard of. There are a few other auctions including a Silver Surfer drum head and an Andorian drum head. Wow. Some of these already sold, including this winner featuring the cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Astro-Tastic

This one went for $350. Arguably, totally worth it.

Marc Maron Interviews Gallagher, Gallagher's Management Responds

ComedyNot Really GallagherOne of the greatest podcast currently running is Marc Maron's WTF with Marc Maron, which features Gallagher this week. If you're anything like me, you probably saw a few of his specials when you were a young lad or lass, and you've probably also heard the stories and read the interviews with the comic as of late. Naturally, you'll want to hear this.

After you listen to the interview, check out this response via Gallagher's management. I'm not stoking coals here, but I will say it's a fascinating industry to follow and it's really cool to see how these people interact and that with comedy, there seems to be a clear generational divide.

New Thundercats Breakdowns, Toys Revealed

ThundercatsThundercatsIn a surprising bit of news, Mezco Toyz will be making a 20-inch Lion-O figure based on the classic designs. Seven points of articulation. If I were to guess, I'd stick it at being $40-$50 retail. It looks impressive!

More interesting is this list of assortment breakdowns of the BanDai line confirming classic and new figures. The new ones come in 4-inch sizes, plus 6-inch sizes, because competing prices never lead to disasters. Classic figures will be 8-inches tall.

New Transformers Animated to G1 Arcee Kit

TransformersArX-01 POLARISIf you want a G1 Arcee but don't want to wait about three weeks for the expected unveiling of a new Generations toy, ToyNirvana.com has shots of a new upgrade kit which should be selling for about $30.

Again, before you pre-order, remember a leaked Wal-Mart listing a few weeks ago named a new Warpath and Arcee as coming in Generations soon-- this isn't an official confirmation, but if you're a gambling man and/or woman I suggest patience.

Lost Figures May Not See Production?

ToysLostI was a little surprised to see this tweet regarding future Lost action figures today, so I checked in with my pals at Bif Bang Pow! (as I also do some work for them) and got it confirmed-- it's true. A few items have been solicited over the years and not produced due to demand (12-inch The Big Lebowski), and this is apparently might also be a part of this club. So if you've been holding off, be sure to place a pre-order at your favorite store (or ask your store to pre-order some) to help get these out. Otherwise... well, don't blame me.

Hasbro "Insight" Book Returns to Print, Author has Passed Away

HasbroNGPA fantastic artifact of Hasbro's wonderful product photographer, insight: Photography and Dioramas by Gianni Lopergolo is back in stock at HasbroToyShop.com for $29.95, and is totally worth it. You'll see early concepts for unmade Clone repaints and a good smattering of unproduced Xevoz toys, too. It's one of my more treasured volumes, so I suggest you get it now that they have it once more.

The book was developed to raise funds for the dying author's family, and we are sad to report that Giovanni (Gianni) Lopergolo passed on last week. Proceeds from the book help his kids-- and he was a really young guy-- so if you have the means to help out his family, it would be a good thing for you to do.

New Playmobil 2011 Catalog Will Give You Reason To Live

PlaymobilBucket ListIf you follow Playmobil, this presentation is insanely exciting stuff as you get a glimpse at the full year of the German line. What does this mean to you? Well, if you're in the USA, this stuff shouldn't be out here until 2012 unless Toys "R" Us lucks out and gets a theme early. The big winner in my eyes is the Stone Age (Steinzeit) theme, featuring mammoths, sabre-tooth tigers, cavemen, and bears. It's awesome.

Other highlights: Fi?ures, which are blind-bagged figures which come unassembled, Western, with two new sets, and Future Planet, which looks like-- in part-- a really cool lost 1970s or 1980s toy line.

New Transformers Prime Q&A Answer; Prime Toy Images

TransformersUnicronHasbro gave me the opportunity to ask the Transformers Prime producers a question, and I passed the buck to you guys, specifically Tony. He asked: "Will we ever actually see Unicron or just teasing and more of his blood? How about Primus or other larger bots?"

Duane Capizzi, Supervising Producer/Co-Developer replied: "There's a larger 'Con coming at you, right around the corner in episode #6 named SKYQUAKE. As for Unicron, well ... why would you want me to blow that for you? I will say that we try not to waste references, and the astute and patient viewer WILL be rewarded ..."

Prime PrimeWell, color me surprised. Also, this seems to be part of a well-orchestrated Prime blitz, because a bunch of new toys got posted today too.

  • Ain't It Cool News has a gift set with Optimus Prime, Megatron, and three human kids from the show
  • IGN got to show off Bumblebee, which looks like a cross between the movie and... basically the movie
  • UGO is showing off Starscream
  • USA Today is showing off Arcee

While there are no confirmations one way or another, the names seem to line up with items that were leaked from upcoming Generations assortments-- so it's possible that Transformers: Prime Arcee is the upcoming Generations Arcee, just like Starscream is Starscream and so on.

New "Shared Exclusive" Transformers Pre-Orders

TransformersRhinoSite sponsor Entertainment Earth put up a bunch of new stuff today-- and I don't know what it all is yet. Here are the new items.

Transformers Generations Scout Basic Wave 1 Set includes the previously seen repaints/repacks of Cybertron Scout-class toys Backstop (in Rhinox colors), Wreckloose (repackaged), and Undermine (repackaged)

.

The Transformers Deluxe Legend Scene Pack Set is a bit of a mystery-- it has two 2-packs with Brawl & Jolt and Bumblebee & Grindor. Based on the prices it stands to reason these are probably just Legends-class toys.

Wrapping up the new listings is a Transformers Dinosaur Mini-Cons Set with 3 dinosaurs and 1 sabre tooth tiger. Neato! These are all "shared exclusive" items meaning you probably will see them at unusual stores-- this means "Not Target," "Not Kmart," "Not Toys "R" Us," and "Not Wal-Mart."

PSOne classics this week are actually pretty exciting, with Pocket Fighter from Capcom joined by Reel Fishing II and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. I can't speak for the PSOne port of Pocket Fighter specifically, but I loved it on the Saturn.

Far more exciting is that the G.I. Joe Club put up a pre-order page for the Sea Adventurer with Mini Submarine for $34.99 (if you're a member, double it if you aren't). Their release date is listed as "This item is scheduled to ship within 4 weeks of March 1, 2011." I'm translating that as "Late April or May 2011."

PSP: Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection

PSPFinal Fantasy IV Complete CollectionWe reported on it a bit earlier, but Square Enix was kind enough to send us a heads-up of the release date for Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection with box art (see the image to the left) and some other details. The PSP compilation includes a completely redrawn remake of the Super NES classic along with The After Years, better known as the most overpriced downloadable game on the Wii.

This much-better priced collection is $29.99 and comes out April 19. (The Wii game was sold in numerous separate installments and cost more than that.) So if you still have a PSP, put this on your shopping list... I know I've gotta get it.

Transformers Botcon 2011 Animated Drag Strip Revealed

TransformersDrag StripAfter a poll letting fans pick who they see first, the people of Botcon revealed Animated Drag Strip, and she looks great.

Based on the hard-to-find Animated Arcee mold, this figure is a straight redeco with lots of yellow and purple-- I dig what they did here. The yellow looks even better than the Arcee deco, if you ask me.

New ThunderCats Classic Tygra Figure Revealed

ThunderCatsThundercatsThe second 8-inch classic BanDai ThunderCats figure has been revealed, andToyNewsInternational has revealed it to be Tygra. It should be another hit, and there are tons of figures from the new series as well.

It's rare that a repaint gets a new head that people want simply to put on another figure-- but it happens. Hasbro Transformers Generations Cliffjumper was purchased by some fans looking for a Cliffjumper with a unique head, but many grabbed it to swap out with the 1997 "Classics" toy's head. As it basically fits. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

Toy Fair 2011: Bif Bang Pow!, General Updates

Toy Fair 2011Did She Give You a Rusty Venture?Live from New York: Bif Bang Pow! Coverage of Venture Bros., Twilight Zone, Lost, Beastly, Doctor Who, and More. While some items were not shown to the general public, I've got shots of new 8-inch Mego-esque action figures of Doctor Who, wonderful pictures of (and news from) Venture Bros., including Shore Leave, and some really cool new and big Twilight Zone items. Why am I posting this first? It was the first booth I got to shoot and the pictures turned out fairly well.

As I am beat-- you may not know this, but I'm reporting, AND helping a booth set up, AND going to meetings for my day job-- articles will be incoming, hopefully, at a clip of one or two a day. Feel free to email me with requests or questions, and I'll make sure the squeaky wheels get the grease first. Currently in the works are NECA, Funko, Diamond Select, Hasbro, LEGO, Mezco, Comic Images, McFarlane Toys, Square Enix, and yes, even more. I took close to a gig of images, so sorting them alone is proving to be quite the challenge.

Battle Beasts Battle Continues

Battle BeastsThe Battle Beasts News blog (which I run) posted a short blurb about the line not being dead-- that's pretty much it. Here's the full post:

"Hey everybody! I had a brief chat with Diamond Select today and they told me that the Minimates Battle Beasts line is NOT dead yet! No new products were shown, but apparently the concept still has some life in it. More as I can find it!

For the curious, no promotional Minimates were distributed at Toy Fair 2011."

Outer Space Men from Pluto, Mars Revealed

Outer Space MenAlpha=7, Electron+Over the weekend in New York, the Four Horsemen revealed new sculpts for its Outer Space Men action figure line which I posted about on the sometimes-udpated Outer Space Men News. It's not Iron Man, but close! The Playmates Classic Star Trek Kirk was one of the highlights of the 1992 "Classic Star Trek" boxed set, as he had a really nice head sculpt for the time-- and heck, even by modern standards it's not bad. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

New Playmobil 2011 Toy Fair Showroom Exclusive

PlaymobilBucket ListOr "sort of exclusive," as this New York Toy Fair Top Agents freebie is-- as far as I can tell-- the 4881 Secret Agent set (in its entirety) which will be sold in the USA this August. The figure has suction cups, a head lamp, a grappling hook, and a backpack... and seems more like "Action Man" than "Playmobil," making it a neat twist. If you're in New York, there's a basket of them at Playmobil's booth.

...it'll be in FOTD soon.

Toy Fair 2011: Hasbro Thor Updates

Toy Fair 2011Hasbro Thor Dong DaggerLive from New York: Hasbro Thor: The Mighty Avenger toys, action figures, and other items. Buzz around the show has it that the movie shouldn't be too great given the complexity of the story and specific nature of the fans for this kind of thing, but the toys should excite long-time comic fans. This dump has a bunch of images I took from the show floor, and it'll be augmented by Hasbro official shots when time permits-- but since you can see those anywhere, I thought you might like these.

The dagger (or short sword) pictured is, to me, one of the funniest things in the line, and I think you know why.

Knucklebonz David Bowie from LabyrinthAlso new: Knucklebonz Statues from music and movies, which focuses on their large catalog of licenses. The Beatles Yellow Submarine, Rush, Labyrinth, and Dark Crystal are likely to be the most interesting new items, although it's all new to you if you haven't seen it before.

A Second Playmobil 2011 Toy Fair Showroom Exclusive

PlaymobilBucket ListA second Playmobil showroom exclusive was discovered when I moseyed on over to the Playmobil booth today to shoot some shots for this site (gallery to follow). Not only did I get a great tour of the room from their PR people, but I got this nifty Koala-with-feeder set. It seems to be a pared down version of 4854 (Koalas and Kangaroo) minus a few key elements.

Also exciting-- and frankly surprising-- was the reveal that the blind-bagged figures will be available in the USA this year, around August. Each should be about $2.99, I was told, and the figures will indeed be constructed differently from normal figures-- they are designed for you to switch heads, limbs, and other bits and pieces for customizing and whatnot.

Toy Fair 2011: NECA Updates

Toy Fair 2011NECA Iggy Pop Action FigureLive from New York: NECA Action Figures from Terminator, Iggy Pop, BioShock, Predators, and more! No company gets more of the hottest license than NECA, having brought numerous music and movie licenses to market in the blink of an eye. New offerings are many, but the most exciting to me was Iggy Pop. Following him, a Flasher Gremlin from Gremlins 2: The New Batch and Terminator figures from the original film, of which there are very few as of yet.

New Game for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released

Xbox Live ArcadeHard Corps: UprisingXbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Hard Corps: Uprising, a $15/1,200 points arcade game in the style of Contra in everything but name, I'm told. They say:

"Thrilling retro run-and-gun action is back with a vengeance in Hard Corps: Uprising, a new 2D side-scroller developed by ARC System Works that pays homage to classic Konami action series. Play as the soldier Bahamut as he begins to write his legend. Battle in the grueling trenches of Arcade mode, where only the best-of-the-best can survive to the end, or the all-new Rising mode, where a life bar and point system allow you to purchase items and upgrades to build your soldier up and achieve ultimate victory. Need help? Partner with a friend to lay down some serious carnage."

Sounds good to me.

Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Transformers Botcon 2011 Animated Wildrider Revealed

TransformersWildriderNext up, the people of Botcon revealed Animated Wildrider, and he has a new head sculpt.

Based on the Animated Blazing Lockdown mold, this figure sports a chainsaw accessory plus the newly tooled-head. Not bad! The next reveal should be Motormaster, presumably next week.

WarpathAlso new, ACToys.net has a painted mistransformed Generations Warpath gallery, giving us the first look at the figure. I've heard people say "LOL pre-beast Razorbeast" but if you get a look at it, it's pretty clearly the G1 tank in a new, larger, more expensive format. It should be out in the Spring.

Toy Fair 2011: Funko and Hasbro G.I. Joe Updates

Toy Fair 2011Funko Pop! Rocks Vinyl Ramones FiguresLate from New York: Funko Bobble Heads, Vinyl Figures, and Plush toys! Funko has produced hundreds of Wacky Wobblers based on numerous licenses, has an adorable house style of plush, and even more exciting, makes a new Pop! Vinyl line of figures which are just too cute for words. Pictured, two of the Ramones figures coming this year. I've got about 40 more images, so click through for those.

Cobra's New Graduating ClassAlso new: Hasbro G.I. Joe, which focuses on a new selection of 4 vehicles, a smattering of 12-inch figures, and several 3 3/4-inch action figures. A new Skystriker Jet is arguably the flagship of the line, with Renegades action figures in realistic style rounding out the fun. The basic figures are a real mix of new and old characters, so it should be an exciting year no matter your preferred generation-- as long as you aren't a Sigma 6 fan.

More Toy Fair Galleries Incoming
February 19, 2011
Toy Fair 2011: LEGO, BanDai, Mezco, McFarlane

Toy Fair 2011BanDai Classic ThunderCats PackagingLate from New York: BanDai Ben 10, ThunderCats, and Power Rangers toys! ThunderCats will, of course, be the big deal of the year to most of you with two classic figures and two scales of "new" toys based on an upcoming animated series. With an actual playset and some vehicles, it's a little unusual because very few toy companies are doing anything remotely close to approaching a playset in 2011.

DC Universe Mez-ItzStill new: Mezco Toyz DC Universe, ThunderCats, South Park, Living Dead Dolls, and Horror Figures. South Park is a "greatest hits" line, but the Mez-Itz effectively bring the Mighty Muggs style to DC. Horror is looking sharp, and there's even (the same) Scott Pilgrim figures to look at. LittleBigPlanet is also represented, so do check these out.

...Mezco also has ThunderCats but so far, there's just the one product-- a giant 14-inch classic Lion-O. This is one of my favorite items from the entire show.

And then there's LEGO, which had so much stuff I'm still formatting it all into separate galleries.

From left to right: new LEGO Minifigures, new LEGO Spongebob Squarepants, and new LEGO Atlantis. The new Minifigures line is particularly exciting, as wave 5 has a guy in a Godzilla costume.

McFarlane Toys HaloFinishing up today's coverage: McFarlane Toys Halo, Sports, and Walking Dead. Halo had a giant prototype vehicle on display which I was told will not be produced in 2011 (and probably not in 2012 from the sound of things). A new female Spartan is expected to do crazy hot business, and both comic and TV versions of Walking Dead figures were announced-- with packaging mock-ups.

There were also some new sports items on display, but me describing that is probably like you trying to explain the finer details of the early work of Captain Beefheart. It's just not in my vocabulary, so just enjoy the photos there.

Yet More Toy Fair Galleries
February 20, 2011
Toy Fair 2011: LEGO, BanDai, Mezco, McFarlane

Toy Fair 2011Hasbro Captain America Roleplay ToysLate from New York: Hasbro Captain America toys! Between this and Thor, it seems Cap has the highest expectations this year for success in toys. (X-Men First Class will be seeing few to no new toys due to the movie not being done yet.) Captain America's line has a number of figures, but also sports a large amount of roleplay toys and military vehicles which may be exciting for fans of G.I. Joe too.

Jakks Pacific PiratesHitting stores right now: Jakks Pacific's Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides toys. I saw some of the roleplay toys and 4-inch figures at Toys "R" Us yesterday, so this gallery may be less exciting to you knowing that (from what I'm hearing) the line has a March 1 street date. These look far better than some of the other toys based on the franchise, but it's not the most Depp-y likeness in the world.

So yeah, go ahead and go searching for Captain Jack Sparrow now, and you'll probably stumble on something. And yes, I have more LEGO, and this still isn't everything-- more will be coming throughout the week. (This includes the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean line, which should be in the next update.)

From left to right: new LEGO Kingdoms, new LEGO Games, and new LEGO Harry Potter. Of note, there's a Harry Potter set called The Forbidden Forest which looks like a cheaper, smaller set and includes 4 minifigures of main characters. This is one you should probably buy.

Global HoldingsFinishing up today's coverage: Global Holdings Nintendo Plush and PVC Figures. Electronic plush with sounds from the games are pretty neat, particularly Starman. New plastic figures include Yoshi in various colors which, I think, you'll dig.

The booth had some Kirby items in it, but nothing confirmed for US distribution just yet.

Star Wars Q&A, Figure of the Day Updated at Galactic Hunter

Q&A by Adam PawlusGalactic Hunter Star Wars NewsGalactic Hunter has posted a new Q&A column this week! Be sure to click through and read up on the latest!

Be sure to send in your questions for next week's thrilling update-- or a few weeks down the road, as I'm loaded with Toy Fair questions.

LabriaFigure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

How many times can you re-buy the same figure? Many times. The Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Holiday Edition Inferno Action Figure came out days after the Infinity Edition late last year, and the blue parts look awesome mixed in with the various other bodies in the line. You gotta get this one. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

Toy Fair 2011: LEGO, Spider-Man, Underground Toys, DC Direct

Toy Fair 2011DC Direct Arkham City Harley QuinnMore from New York: DC Direct statues, busts, action figures, and props! The last year felt a little slow on the release window, with some items still dragging and not being out as of yet. On the bright side, new Green Lantern movie product was shown, alongside figures like Arkham Asylum Harley Quinn (pictured.)

The New DaleksImported from the UK (by way of China): Underground Toys Doctor Who line and numerous other items. The company will be bringing over numerous other items from Star Wars, Top Gear, Ghostbusters, LittleBigPlanet, and numerous other licenses from around the world this year. It was quite the impressive booth!

There's a definite emphasis on plush items, with clip-ons, electronic talking plush, and giant oversized plush Chewbacca toys populating their space in Javits Center. Most of the Doctor Who stuff that was visible to the public has been available for a while, but behind closed doors are... well, I'm being told they'll kill me if I hint at it. But that Adipose stress toy is really something, ain't it?

From left to right: new LEGO Hery Factory, new LEGO Technic, and all-new LEGO UFO Attack. The LEGO UFO Attack theme is easily my favorite of the new year, so be sure to check that one out. If you ignore all the LEGO coverage on this site, be sure to read about UFO Attack.

Hasbro Spider-ManFinishing up today's coverage: Hasbro Spider-Man. Like last year, there's not a ton of new stuff this year, but there were some glances at some of the new 3 3/4-inch line to be had and a fancypants new mask for the kids. The larger figure line continues except now there's an added SKU with crazy action features.

Packaged Transformers Generations Wheeljack, Unpackaged Warpath

TransformersWheeljackIt took years, but this Transformers Generations Wheeljack on HK-TF will probably scratch that long-running itch for a new version of the toy with his correct name. The Alternators one was colored differently, and the Energon toy was named "Downshift." This time around, there shouldn't be much to complain about.

WarpathFar more newsworthy" some guy on eBay has a painted, properly transformed Warpath which you'll recall as one of the few announced toys that wasn't even shown at Toy Fair. The final toy looks really nice, complete with places to clamp on weapons and a ton of articulation. It's unknown if this is the final entry in Generations, but for the time being it looks as if it will be the last one released for a little while.

Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Today we look at the Han Solo Gunner Station figure from over 10 years ago, and time has not been kind to this one. Unless you're a sucker for the Kenner aesthetic, well, you probably won't want one. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

New Kabaya Gum Transformers

TransformersGod GinraiNeato! HK-TF has shots of Kabaya God Ginrai, God Bomber, and Starscream Candy Toys which require some assembly and labels, and should be out in the near future. For what they are, they all look pretty fantastic! Starscream in particular seems to be an update of the Classics (2006) mold.

Toy Fair 2011: 6 More Galleries

Toy Fair 2011Jakks Pacific Pokemon ToysLate from New York: Jakks Pacific Pokemon toys! Based largely on the Black and White games, this line actually looks to be a lot of fun with Pokeballs that can "catch" smaller figures and some nicely detailed figures. I'm a little older than the target demo for the game, but as someone who played the original in 1998 I can tell you that the toys are fun to play with if you get the chance.

Jakks Pacific SmurfsThe other Jakks summer movie line: Jakks Pacific's Smurfs movie toys. Not only does this line include a Gargamel (as played by Hank Azaria), but there are numerous plush toys, mini-figures, and playsets. This should build on previous offerings from Jakks and Schleich, and I'm sure it'll be just fine and dandy for the fans of the now-classic line. (I refuse to use "smurfy.")

From left to right: the all-new LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, new LEGO Cars, and new LEGO Duplo. The Pirates line is particularly interesting because, unlike some other franchise lines, Captain Jack Sparrow seems to be in pretty much every set-- so if you want him, it's not going to require your buying a $100 set. (We're looking at you, Star Wars.)

Hasbro Iron ManFinishing up today's coverage: Hasbro Iron Man. While not as extensive as last year's offerings, the line seems to have legs with more 4-inch action figures in a new packaging style-- this should make them easier to find at retail, meaning you won't be able to get them. I'm particularly pleased to see larger Marvel Legends-sized Iron Man figures, mostly so people stop whining about it.

Also on deck are new roleplay toys, a new silver-tinted race car, and some chunky robot figures for the kids based on War Machine and Iron Man.

Old DC TV Special, Return of Firefly?

TVClassyI've never seen nor head of Legends Of The Superheroes before today, but the AVClub has a pretty good writeup of the TV special in all its zero-budget live-action glory. Adam West? Check. The Huntress? Also check. How can you not check this out? There are clips too!

Also newsworthy: Fans heard a comment from Nathan Fillion saying he'd like to buy the rights to Firefly if he ever won the lottery and decided to help him out by starting a web site and collecting pledges. I'm not sure how serious he was about making new episodes and buying the franchise, but money talks and the nerd class is loaded. Could this actually happen? (My guess is "no" but this is guaranteed to be a grand experiment in crowdsourcing and that Kickstarter model if it keeps going.)

Nintendo Wii Downloads This Week

WiiFaxanaduThis week's WiiWare offerings are Jewel Keepers: Easter Island and Cozy Fire. Each is $5/500 points but is not as exciting as the new (old) NES game you can get for the same price.

The Virtual Console has the NES classic Faxanadu for $5/500 points. It will knock you on your butt with its high difficulty, but it looks neat and is a great example of what a game from the late 1980s could be like.

Nintendo DSi Downloads This Week

Nintendo DSRemote RacersThis week's batch: Remote Racers, G.G. Series Drift Circuit, and Arctic Escape. Each is $2-$5 and can be yours... if you have a DSi.

Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Today we look at the Clone Trooper figure from 2005, one of four unique exclusive battle damaged versions. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

So yellow you could just eat it (but don't), the Four Horsemen Outer Space Men Beta Phase Inferno Action Figure is a clear repaint (or "pre-paint") from late last year. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

Thor Sword: Unintentionally Funny

MarvelThor Movie Sword and Shield Set Compensating? You might not find this as funny as I did, but just look at the sword and try not to giggle. I dare you. This fine item is called the Thor Movie Sword and Shield Set but I think that it'll be referred to more frequently by its unique design elements. Specifically, being "ribbed for her pleasure."

Toy Fair 2011: Another 6 Galleries

Toy Fair 2011Playmobil ToysLate from New York: Playmobil toys for 2011! Generally, the USA get Playmobil toys a full year after their German debut-- but this time around, they're going to be bringing in blind bagged figures like Uncle Sam (pictured) in August, or so they told me. There will be numerous figures in the line with mix-and-match body parts. Check out the (extensive) gallery for new toys, old toys, and toys that are new to you if you don't shop at Toys "R" Us.

Hasbro GirlsBecause it's all pink to me, Hasbro Girls offerings are all on one page. Lines include Easy-Bake, Littlest Pet Shop, Furreal Friends, Furry Frenzies, and of course My Little Pony. Be sure to check out Furry Frenzies because it's odd enough to be more than a little funny.

From left to right: the all-new LEGO Ninjago, new LEGO Star Wars, and new Pharaoh's Quest. The Ninjago line is particularly interesting because it's quite a departure from LEGO's usual offerings-- the boxed sets are more or less par for the course, but the higher-priced blister-packed spinning figures could really reshape the business if it takes off and pulls a Beyblade.

Hasbro Transformers PrimeFinishing up today's coverage: Hasbro Transformers Prime. The previously seen toys were all shown, including Starscream, Bumblebee, Arcee, and the multi-pack of Optimus Prime, Megatron, and the trio of kids from the TV show.

No new "classic" toys were shown, not even the (as of yet) not officially revealed Warpath from Transformers Generations. So where does this leave all those toys which haven't even shown up for pre-order yet? No idea.

PS3: PSN Updates This Week

PS3XenogearsNew to download this week are many new games: Space Ace, ATV Pure, Days Of Thunder Nascar Edition, and Alien Breed 3: Descent. These run $9.99 each.

PSOne classics this week aren't many, but you do get Xenogears for the higher-than-usual price of $9.99. Given the game's fame, though, it's probably worth your while to grab it.

PSP: PSN Updates This Week

PSPYS: I & II ChroniclesNew to download this week: the compilation YS: I & II Chronicles. It's $24.99, cheep. Or at least, it sounds about right.

New PSP Minis include: Bloons TD, Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder, Twin Blades, and Denki Blocks! Those must be some exciting blocks. Each is $3.99-$4.99.

Nintendo 3DS US Launch Library Revealed

Nintendo DSNEW!Over at Joystiq is the launch library for the new Nintendo handheld, or at least the current projections for it come this March. The three first-party titles are Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, and Nintendogs + Cats. At least there are some nice third-party offerings.

Star Wars Figure of the Day Updated

Galactic Hunter & Star Wars NewsMajor PannoFigure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Today we look at the Major Panno figure from 2009, which is the second character of the species to see plastic as an action figure. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Also, cases with Vintage Wedge Antilles went up for pre-order so you may want to look into that.

Production Images of Transformers Generations Wheeljack

TransformersWheeljackA sample of Transformers Generations Wheeljack has shown up, and some dude on ACToys.net posted shots both in and out of the package. It looks pretty vibrant and potentially better than the Japanese release... also, it's cheaper.

In theory, this could be showing up any day now. Just like Lugnut.

Toy Fair 2011: Still More Galleries

Toy Fair 2011Diamond Distribution Family Guy ToysLate from New York: Diamond Distribution showed off much of their massive catalog. Pictured is Playmates Family Guy which seems to be basically the early 2000s Simpsons line, but with Family Guy. That means talking figures, limited articulation, and seemingly great sculpts. I'm particularly elated to see Death on display already.

Diamond Select ToysWhile much of it was behind a camera-free zone, Diamond Select Toys had a bunch of new stuff to gawk at including Minimates and licenses like Captain America, The Real Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and many others that we weren't supposed to tell you about.

If you like Minimates though, this is a good year for you. Lots of Marvel, lots of X-Men, and I like the Ghostbusters monsters. There's also a "2015" Back to the Future II version of the Minimates DeLorean Time Machine which will undoubtedly knock your socks off. Pictured is a new 4-pack of figures with the first Principal Strickland figure in addition to Doc, Marty, and Biff.

From left to right: the new Hasbro Marvel Universe, new Hasbro Games, and a large Playskool Line of Transformers, Star Wars, and Marvel. The Playskool stuff is a replacement for the Galactic Heroes/Superhero Squad/Robot Heroes lines, and the giant Sentinel is just here to make fans of Marvel happy. Just look at it! It's huge.

Hasbro Transformers Dark of the MoonFinishing up today's coverage: Hasbro Transformers Dark of the Moon. The line is, to say the least, massive. There are roleplay guns, there are regular figures, there's a complete Micro line called Cyberverse, and there is a freaking huge Ultimate Optimus Prime toy. This may be the largest launch of Transformers in ages.

I dig the idea of the micro segment, with Powerglide as one of the first figures to come out. There's even a mini Ark playset/vehicle to go with these things. Nice!

New Game for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released

Xbox Live ArcadeBejeweled Blitz LIVEXbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Bejeweled Blitz LIVE, a $10/800 points sequel to the crazy popular game from PopCap Games. Undoubtedly, this one will be huge too. They say:

"The most competitive 60 seconds on XBLA! Take on friends in the brilliant gem-matching action of Bejeweled Blitz LIVE! Choose your favorite playing style - Classic or Twist - and rocket up the leaderboards! Battle your way to the top in the all-new 16-player Party LIVE mode over Xbox LIVE. Create cascades of fun with Flame gems, Lightning gems and Hypercubes. You can even combine scores with friends for the highest weekly and all-time Friendscores. The challenge is irresistible!"

Sounds good to me.

The Hasbro Transformers Reveal the Shield Turbo Tracks Action Figure hit last November, but is only just now starting to hit shelves in numbers so that you'd know he was there. (Kmart, Kohls, and Walgreen's got the lion's share of 2010 product at the end there.) So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

He-Man + She-Ra + Cover Charge = Power-Con

Masters of the UniversePower-ConA new convention is being planned for fans of Masters of the Universe. Power-Con was announced on the He-Man.org boards, and it is currently scheduled to be in the fall of this year. Some highlights from the announcement posts:

  • "As far as location, [the promoter] can tell you now it will most likely be NY or CA. Those states have the highest concentration of fans who visit this site, as well as the highest concentration of talent involved in MOTU and POP both past and present."
  • "As far as exclusives, [the promoter] wouldn't count on any toy exclusives."

Transformers Botcon 2011 Animated Motormaster Revealed

TransformersMotormasterNext up, the people of Botcon revealed Animated Motormaster, and he has a boxy new head sculpt.

Based on the Animated Voyager Optimus Prime mold, this figure sports the same gun and axe from the original, plus the newly tooled-head. Not bad! Since they probably won't reveal the at-show extras, this is probably going to be it until the show in a few months.

Toy Fair 2011: Yet Another Day of Galleries

Toy Fair 2011Hasbro Star WarsLate from New York: Hasbro Star Wars is the brand that seems to be a driving force behind the collector media online, and there were plenty of new things to gawk at-- some better than others. "Revenge of the Jedi" chase cardbacks will be peppered in the cases this summer, a new Republic Attack Shuttle is this year's big ship, and the mini-rig-esque small vehicle assortment is exploding with fantastic newness, rather than the same damn bike seven times over.

HasbroIn addition to all the specific galleries, I got a catch-all of everything else Hasbro had on display (that turned out well as photos go).

It's notable to catch Star Wars and Transformers Play-Doh sets in addition to Lite-Brite, Tonka, Sesame Street, and a good smattering of new Mr. Potato Head products.

...and a big shot of Beyblade, if you're in to that. At the bottom of the gallery is a showcase of the many brands Hasbro owns and/or is working on... of note is Micronauts, which J.J. Abrams is reportedly developing as a movie in some capacity. There's also a whole mess of boring crap developed for the British Pre-K market, so if you're the type that got loaded and watched Teletubbies there may be more excitement in store for you in 2011.

From left to right: the new Jakks Pacific TNA action figures, new UFC action figures, and a large Jakks Pacific gallery of everything else. The general Jakks gallery has a lot of great stuff in it, including Kinectimals, Hello Kitty with a moustache, amazing Max Force spitwad guns, and of course Spongebob Squarepants toys too.

LEGO CreatorFinishing up today's coverage: LEGO Creator. The line is impressive as always, and this year we've got a new Lighthouse with a light-up brick, a great Log Cabin with three distinct floorplans, and a whole mess of other stuff.

It's a good year to, to steal from BoingBoing, get excited and build things. Assuming you like that sort of thing, and I figure that you do. At this rate, it looks like we'll have one more day of updates before calling it quits for Toy Fair 2011!

The Last of Toy Fair 2011
February 26, 2011
Toy Fair 2011: BanDai Japan, Jazwares, LEGO, The Rest

Toy Fair 2011Square-Enix Chun-LiLate from New York: Square-Enix merchandise! Today's our last day of galleries, so be sure to take a look through the bazillions of pictures that were worth posting.

In addition to their own properties like Final Fantasy they're showing off Street Fighter, Halo, and Metal Gear Solid. Chun-Li looks promising, as does Ryu.

They're also tackling Bleach and other Japanese properties, which is nice to see. They do a higher-end figure, but you generally get your money's worth.

There weren't too many retro properties shown, so don't expect too many Super NES hits or the greatest games of the NES era. The new stuff is pretty nice, though.

From left to right: new Jazwares, new LEGO City, and new LEGO Licensed Items. The new Minifigures display cabinets are particularly nice, and come in a variety of sizes and colors to house (some of) your collection. Let's face it, they can't build one to hold hundreds of the things.

Everything ElseFinishing up this year's coverage: Everything else. Highlights include BanDai Japan, with Rockman, Gundam, and other imported kits and high-grade figures for your enjoyment and assembly.

I also got some shots of licensed Japanese Nintendo Capsule Figures, mostly from Mario and Zelda, plus a smattering of nice Halloween gear from Elope. Elope makes a pretty high-grade costume, so be sure to check out the Spy vs. Spy masks. There's a full costume, but I had a full memory card and could only shoot so much.

Be sure to send in your questions for next week's thrilling update-- or a few weeks down the road, as I'm still quite queued up with Toy Fair questions.

Clone Trooper Turbo Tank Support SquadFigure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Today we look at the Clone Trooper Turbo Tank Support Squad figure from 2009, which is essentially a clone with big guns and special shoulder detail. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Finally, the 2012 Star Wars packaging template has been revealed and the line is trading out The Clone Wars for The Phantom Menace.

Figure of the DayHasbro Beast Wars Transformers Noctorro Action FigureSomething new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!

It's Beast Week! The Hasbro Beast Wars Transformers Noctorro Action Figure came out over 10 years ago, and stands out as one of the unusual Transformers molds which Hasbro has never repainted and Takara has never released in Japan-- and we're going to look at Fuzors all week long! So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

New Playmobil Diver 2-Pack

PlaymobilSCUBAA large batch of "mass market" Playmobil is hitting Toys "R" Us stores in the USA right now, although it seems random things are showing up and from one store to the next, you might see some pretty different stuff. The Playmofriends Forum has one set I haven't seen yet, a dual SCUBA Diver set 5924 which is listed there as a Toys "R" Us sighting. Of note, it includes a snorkeler-- and those have been pretty uncommon-- in addition to the normal diver. Naturally, we'll be reviewing this one here as we find one.

Vaguely Scopey Transformers RTS/United Perceptor Microscope Mode

TransformersPerceptor ExplosionMuch like the makeshift boombox mode for Cybertronian Soundwave, a Japanese fan has fidgeted a Transformers United Perceptor Microscope Mode in an extensive gallery of the newly released Japanese toy. He also compares it to the US release, and as to which one is better... I'd say it's a toss-up but a little bit in favor of the US release. Those chrome knobs are fantastic.

The blog also posted shots of Transformers United Wreck-Gar, Char (Kup), and Blurr. If you're on the fence as to if you should buy the cheaper American version or the more expensive Japanese import, these galleries are worth checking out.

Link Dump: New DC Universe, Young Justice from Mattel

DC Universe While I couldn't make the Mattel shindig in New York, they sent out pictures of many of the new toys to my employer-- so I'll just link to those! Check out DC Universe Wave 18, based largely on Superfriends, as well as new Batman Legacy figures in scale with DC Universe and the all-new Young Justice line. Young Justice will replace Justice League Unlimited, which is ending its run this year.

Colors are unknown, but expect the likes of Electron+, Alpha-7, Mystron, and Commander Comet.
