Star Wars Figure Action Review: Green R2-Series Astromech Droid
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Green R2-Series Astromech Droid figure from theme park exclusive batches last year. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star WarsFigure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Purple! The Onell Design Glyos Neo Nebula Armorvor Action Figure was one of the later releases last year, and of course sold out in a couple of minutes. It's just that neat. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!
The on-sale time os 9:00 PM EST, although previous recent launches indicate that they might be a little late, and they'll definitely be available the day following. So don't stay up for these, but do order a set Monday morning (and later, as they'll likely be available for a bit.)
New, also old! Mezco Toyz Mez-Itz from Batman and DC Comics are looking sharp. The toughish-to-find minis are getting numerous new girl figures like Batgirl and Harley Quinn alongside the Adam West Batman, the Batmobile, and the pantsless boy wonder Robin. It's looking awesome!
Where did we come from? Giant murderers from space! NECA Prometheus Action Figures are loaded with amazing detail and gritty gore, as well as fantastic accessories. The human (and "human") likenesses are really something special, so check 'em out.
Nerf for the pink aisle! Hasbro Nerf Rebelle Bows and Arrows and Blasters aim to bring the ladies over to Nerf-style shootin', traditionally a boy's play pattern. The items' functionality was fun to see tested, but the coloring seems a little odd. Heck, so does the branding. But it's a start, and in the era of Katniss this sort of thing needs to be tried, after all it might be a big missed opportunity! Or future fodder for VH-1's "I Love the 2010s."
Diamond: the Final Frontier! Despite it being a movie year, very few new toys for the classic space brand were on display. Diamond Select Toys' Star Trek line has a lot to like, including vehicles, action figures, and an upcoming Mr. Spock vinyl bust bank.
Marvel has more! Diamond Select Toys Marvel Action Figures, Minimates, and Bottle Openers are likely to help scratch the itch of one of your many still-legal addictions. An Infinity Gauntlet Bottle Opener is just good science, while a Marvel Select Silver Surfer Action Figure is likely to be hot stuff. 16 pictures await you in the article below, click a pic and enjoy.
Toy Fair 2013: Mezco Toys Odds and Ends
Mezco Toyz gets some really superb licenses, and their product is generally of a high quality. That's why you should see the Toy Fair 2013: Mezco Toys Odds and Ends Gallery. Sure, you've seen South Park, but did you catch they made an Earthworm Jim? Did you see there's an 18-Inch Mars Attacks! Martian on the horizon? Check it out!
Surround yourself with nothing but robots with LEGO Mindstorms. We have photos and an article, but for now this demo video pretty much tells you everything you'd want to know about the new sensors and some of the other bells and whistles. It's a surprisingly nifty piece of hardware.
Expect this one just before the holidays, and be sure to set aside a few hundred bucks if you want one.
This week's Wii offering: Retro City Rampage. This is an NES-esque game which was, at one point, meant to be basically a modern-era made-for-the-NES game. Cool! $10.
The Wii U has BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien , a $15 original title with a very long name.
This week's batch on the DSiWare Shop: 3DS eShop games include Mahjong Mysteries - Ancient Athena and Coaster Creator 3D plus the demo for Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate.
Other DSiWare eShop games include Easter Eggstravaganza.
While we've seen tons of ALIEN figures as of late, the NECA ALIENS Action Figure Gallery showcases creatures, marines, and a spectacular (not for sale) diorama based on the James Cameron sequel
Diamond Select toys continued its line of Back to the Future Prop Replicas, Housewares, and Vehicles. Many of which have been seen previously, of course, but the new Mr. Fusion no doubt stole the show for many a fan. Too bad it doesn't quite work for realsies.
Check out the videos in our coverage, as well, if you want to see how the color-changing Marty Jr. Hat and Mr. Fusion play out.
Displayed outside the Javits showrooms was this big box. Turn the crank, hear a song, and watch what must be a couple thousand bucks worth of LEGO bricks roll on by.
While a bit of an understatement, it was an impressive sight.

Transformers: TRU Exclusive Masterpiece Soundwave, Acid Storm
New Hasbro! The Hasbro Transformers Masterpiece 2013 Soundwave and Acid Storm are coming to Toys R Us this year. How much, and in what capacity, are closely-guarded secrets that you may be able to guess, but odds are that bit of news won't be nailed down or confirmed until later.
Three robots were shown for Pacific Rim, while only Jaden Smith was shown for After Earth so far and I didn't get a straight answer as to if the latter would get more figures.

They made it! The Diamond Select Battle Beasts Minimates Gruntos the Walrus & Tate Reynolds set looks amazing and is loaded with gear. Gear interaction is a mixed bag, but you get enough stuff that if you're armed with some boiling water, you'll probably be just fine. So read on, read our B-Daman one too, and come back soon for more!
Review: Star Wars Emperor's Royal Guard (and more)
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 2695 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the latest Emperor's Royal Guard. It's a late 2012 release too expensive to troop build as it never hit stores. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!
If you haven't already, also check out another installment Galactic Hunter Video Theater in which we look at whatever the last thing I posted about was!
We're still working out the LEGO coverage, as there is much to post, but for some reason I shot a video of the LEGO 60014 Coast Guard Patrol while in New York.
You probably have someone in your life who would just go nuts over this, so do share it with your friends.
Toy Fair 2013: Diamond Select Toys Other Galleries
See Munsters, Monsters, Tomb Raider, Pathfinder, Domo, and more in the Diamond Select Toys Other Galleries . This rounds up our look at Diamond's stuff from New York last month, and there's a whole mess of pictures here.
The Domo Pizza Cutter is pretty brilliant - check it out.
The biggest heroes! Neca 1:4 Scale Batman and Avengers Action Figures are making it out this year, and the amount of figure per inch is pretty impressive. The detail is great, and the prices are anticipated to be quite good.
In addition to Batman's Michael Keaton and Adam West, there are also Iron Man and Captain America figures.
New to download this week: Tomb Raider Digital Edition. This one is $59.99 and includes some bonus weapons and maps. Also new: MLB The Show 13, Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist Of Dusk, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Port Royale 3 Pirates & Merchants.
New PS2 classic games this week: Midnight Club and Midnight Club II for $9.99 each.

Best/Worst/Best-Kept "Secret" New Jurassic Park 3-D Toys
First up: seemingly official, packaged photography of New Toys R Us Exclusive Jurassic Park 3D Toys show long-rumored new sculpted dinosaurs, plus what appear to be new "Jurassic Joes" like we've been drooling over for the last few years. Pictured in this JPtoys.net gallery are Allosaurus Assault and Pachyrhinosaurus Clash, each of which looks pretty dang slick. We anticipate these are $29.99 each.
This gallery shows some figures out of the box, but they're advance samples. Reports indicate these are hitting California now, meaning that a) Hasbro got a line out without announcing it, and yet b) we knew about these for several years. The samples showing up have big yellow stickers covering some of the other toys Hasbro opted to not release right now, meaning they might make the rounds for Jurassic Park 4 or some future commemorative series.

Transformers Beast Hunters Optimus Prime Customs Will Delight, Amaze
Legendary fan and person who I have not been stalking at conventions Cheetimus Has Been Posting Amazing Beast Hunters Voyager Repaint Customs which will knock your socks off and make you angry if they don't get made as exclusives. Optimus Primal? Toxitron? Shattered Glass Optimus Prime? These are spectacular, and there are more in his archives - Demolishor (Armada) from Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime being one of the most clever I've seen in recent memory.

Xbox fans, it's time to download Dollar Dash, a $10/800-point multiplayer game. Microsoft says:
"Find it, rob it, and keep it. Grab the cash in this fast and frenetic top down multiplayer versus game. Dollar Dash will have you shouting for joy, as you make a dash with the cash. You must attack, defend or outrun your competitors in any of the three game modes (Dollar Dash, Save the Safe or HitšnšRun) using unique and comedic tactics. Stand out from the crowd by customising your character, upgrading your favourite weapon, earning perks and unlocking achievements. You canšt stand still for a second as combat is crazy and money changes hands frequently. Choose your weapons carefully as you challenge your friends to become the best thief in town and laugh out loud as you smash them with a huge Bolder, peck them with a Mag Pie, while protecting yourself in Jelly!"

Red! The Banimon Fire Eaters (Red Army Men) Action Figure manages to take a great figure, slap on a great theme, and make it even more interesting than its previous releases. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!
Check out our NECA Misc Gallery from Toy Fair 2013 for more head knockers, Twilight items, Jeff Dunham, and other stuff that will make them a ton of cash in the coming months. Next week, we plan on finishing up Toy Fair coverage with looks at LEGO and DC Collectibles.
Our final video of our Toy Fair coverage focuses on the new LEGO City Advent Calendar, giving you a quick look at the set which, in all honesty, I should've probably shot a little bit better. Oh well, learning experience for next year, right?
We'll be wrapping up our LEGO coverage next week, which should also mean an end to the Toy Fair 2013 coverage, which took a heck of a lot longer than I expected.
This week's batch on the DSiWare Shop: 3DS eShop games include Kersploosh!, ATV Wild Ride 3D, Nano Assault EX, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D plus the demo for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity.
Also up for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console: Wrecking Crew for $3.99, and it's a classic NES game. I remember having to track this one down in like 1988 or 1989, after it was pretty much gone from the marketplace and the idea of "used games" was pretty hard to deal with in a Funcoland-free Phoenix. Like many games of its era, you had to be there.

I'm guessing this is going to get the most traffic! LEGO Legends of Chima is already in stores, but the gallery showcases larger buildable action figures in addition to dozens of new minifigure-scaled kits of varying price points.
The main takeaway from here? Apes. And the bigger Chima guys remind me of Xevoz, so I might have to grab a couple of those.

Bricks for chicks! I expect hate mail for that. LEGO Friends 2013 has expanded beyond dress-up and sitting around, now including things like yachts, magic, and a school with a bathroom.
Several new sets were shown, plus a decent advent calendar.
Also new: LEGO Galaxy Squad, which replaces Space Police and Alien Conquest. Good guys are bulky white humans. Bad guys are creepy green aliens. They're actually pretty awesome.

Thar be whales here! The Deep Fried Figures Mechawhales Action Figure is really big, really cool, and really not cheap. I don't normally review higher-dollar designer toys here but this thing just looked so much like it should be a kid's toy that I couldn't help it. You gotta check this guy out. So read on, read our B-Daman one too, and come back soon for more!

City expands! LEGO City 2013 has more beach rescues and houses and other public service-related vehicles. Yet no shopping mall has been produced... why is this?
Several new sets were shown, plus a decent advent calendar.
Also new: LEGO Duplo, which is pretty much here just for historical purposes. Don't bother reading it, it's probably not going to interest you. This section incorporates some nifty Disney Princess and Jake and the Neverland Pirates sets as well.
Tomorrow we'll wrap up Toy Fair 2013 - yes, finally - with 2 more galleries.

October Toys has new green releases! Green Baby Deadbeet are up at October Toys for a mere $2 per figure. They aren't OMFGs, but they're incorporating the same sculptors, factories, plastic colors, and so on so you do the math. Metallic and normal green are available, as is a flesh color.
Bigger builds! LEGO Technic 2013 are a little long in the tooth next to high-tech Mindstorms and collectible minifigures, but there are still some opportunities to make very big things out of these larger, more expensive sets for older boys. Worth a look? We'd say yes.
Is anyone surprised? Our final gallery is LEGO Star Wars at Toy Fair 2013 with over 70 shots of dozens of new sets and minifigures.
Max Rebo? Santa General Grievous? Darth Maul's Mandalorians? This is the go-to line for Clone Wars fans, and the variety here succeeds where Hasbro is... well, not doing much new at all, really. Be sure to check this out.
Xbox fans, it's time to download Darkstalkers Resurrection, a $15/1,200-point multiplayer fighting collection which aspires to scratch my Vampire Saviour itch. Microsoft says:
"Darkstalkers Resurrection updates to two games for the price of one - Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3. These feature classic gameplay and unique characters as well as a host of new features, including a variety of HD visual modes, online play with 8-player lobbies, YouTube replay sharing, improved challenge modes, dynamic awards, and unlockable extras. Toys R Us, in addition to some all-new molded 2-packs, is now stocking some repackaged versions of certain 2009 releases. For example, Battle Growlers Tyrannosaurus Rex is shipping alongside an electronic Raptor for $19.99 each (they were $16.99 last time), and a few other items are showing up as well including 4 "Dino Trackers" (Jurassic Park III repaints) and 4 pack-in dinosaur 2-packs. They're pretty good, and there are some changes. Allow me to illustrate.
In the 2009 line, we got a repackaged Billy Brennan figure with a camo glider. In 2011, the same figure and dinosaur and accessories are released as "Sky Patrol" and the body now has Grant's head in Toys R Us' official images and on the sample I saw at Toys R Us. The dino 2-packs are $6.99, and Growlers are $19.99, and the Humans are $9.99. The all-new Dino Showdown sets are $29.99 per and, if you ask me, are the most interesting for the asking price.
The packaging is very similar, but not identical. The new figures have a "The Bite Is Back" logo on it, new copyright dates on the packaging, and other tweaks. As I did not get the entire 2009 line, I may have to defer to you to actually check for some of the changes.

Xbox fans, it's time to download Alien Spidy, a $10/800-point game where, uh, a spider hangs out with an alien. Microsoft says:
"After losing contact with his explorer friend Virgi, our fearless alien hero Spidy heads to Earth in his spacecraft to find her. While entering the Earth's atmosphere, his spacecraft suddenly fails and starts to break up, causing Spidy to crash-land on the strange planet, with his craft scattered across forests, throughout ponds and into dark caves. Spidy finds himself alone on an alien world and faces the epic challenge of tracking down Virgi, battling strange new enemies and finding the missing pieces from his spacecraft in order to repair the damage and make their escape home."

It's not a lot of hyperbole to say that Capcom's upcoming rerelease of a remastered NES DuckTales is a big deal. With old licensing deals and the like, seeing a game like this brought back (and redrawn with voice samples) is nothing short of miraculous, but thankfully large corporations can put their differences aside in order to make some easy money off the increasingly rare untapped nostalgia market.
The port is being done by WayForward, and they brought us the better-than-it-should've-been Contra IV for Nintendo DS. Also, the teaser trailer is about as hyped-up as they come.
With slightly less hyperbole and fanfare also comes Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, which collects rarely-released arcade games Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara.
These titles are slated to be ported to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U this summer. D&D will also get a PC port.
