Adorable! The Playmobil Penguins are one of many flavors of the flightless sea birds sold over the last three and a half decades - the first of which were unpainted toys for you to customize. These ones came in a foil baggie. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Xbox fans, it's time to try Destiny 2. Microsoft says:
"From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel. An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system. Humanity's last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city's Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity's scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home."

It begins and ends here: Let's start with the G.I. Joe Showcases. Original artwork, prototypes, paint masters, and other items of historical significance to toy people were shown and were a treat to see.
Hasbro had Hasbro Games. Giant games, games for sale, game crates, and game demos - it was pretty amazing to see everything. I was particularly taken with some of the game crates, specifically a game that asks you if you're better than a box of rocks at trivia. It's called - wait for it - Box of Rocks.
Tons of Marvel items were shown spanning a decade of movies and getting close to a century's worth of comic books. I loved seeing Walgreens new exclusives, a 3 3/4-inch Mega Man (really), and some costumes.
Massive parts of HasCon were set up to Nerf items. Blasters and cars are their main products, but there are shooting galleries and a quasi-paintball zone where people could shoot each other - or a dude dressed like a zombie!
I was delighted to see a big Play-Doh setup. There was a test play kitchen in addition to scores of display cases and demo stations with new items. The vintage stuff was the most fun to revisit, though.
This HasCon Grab Bag is loaded with other stuff. Shirts for sale, Littlest Pet Shop, Dunkin Donuts Plinko, micro-sized Tonka vehicles, and so much more could be seen. I had fun. The free donut holes made my day each day.
This Transformers Generations gallery was the heart of the show - it was the big thing you probably wanted to see, and the Transformers area was right up front when you entered the show. Tucked in were new Power of the Primes toys, with the new Dinobots being the best thing I've seen in a while. It's Sludge, people!
I loved getting to look at Transformers Grey Prototypes since they had new Power of the Primes toys and previously unseen things like scraplets and Blaster from the movieverse.
I didn't see much new for Transformers The Last Knight. Everything was shown before, but if you haven't seen it you're in for a treat.
If you entered the convention hall, there's no way you could miss Transformers Props and Displays. Full-size cars and a giant Optimus Prime were just some of the things on display.

Neat! The Playmobil Ghostbusters 9221 Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is in stores now and is a pretty sturdy representation of the characters from a comedy that came out in 1984 - so naturally, it's what a German toy company wants to make for preschoolers. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

So Kmart isn't doing well - in Phoenix, most of them have slowly closed and become other things - furniture stores, indoor go-karts, or sad husks. The last open store is on the I-17 and Northern, currently going through its death throes. I was there last week on my birthday toy run, and the toy department had been collapsed with the former toy department being empty shelving for sale. It looked far better in July, when the YouTube account Retail Archaeology made this lovely video.
Semi-related, Toys R Us announced it'll file for some sort of bankruptcy this week, which doesn't necessarily mean it's going out of business. In the 1990s, Kmart was part of what Hasbro called its "top five" - Target, Kmart, Kay-Bee Toys, Toys R Us, and Walmart - who made up 85ish percent of the American toy business market. Kay-Bee closed in the late 2000s, with Kmart not officially out of business, but dozens of store closures are announced every couple of months. (The rest of the toy market was often referred to, at Hasbro, as "market six." Mattel referred to the other stores as "alternative channels" or "alt channel" stores.)
The loss of Kmart over time has been supplanted by growth in Amazon and online toy sellers like Entertainment Earth (where I work), plus increases - albeit small ones - at the likes of Walgreens and increasingly GameStop. And JC Penny has a toy section again this year, probably right now at a store near you.
If you've got a Kmart near you, take a stroll through it - here in Phoenix, we're fast approaching our last chance.

Via PCC: The Playmobil Collectors Club is ending. It's over, with one free figure left before it all goes away - whatever it is. I was a paid member but have yet to get my first figure, so... well, that's $10 I guess.
The forums were nothing special, ordering exclusive product in the USA was complicated (I couldn't make it happen), and I hope they just sell those special items elsewhere. Maybe somewhere that it's easier to understand how to coordinate an order. It was nifty, but oddly there are other paid collector forums for this particular line as well. Without official previews (and there were some) there wasn't much else going on there.
