Star Wars Q&A, Figure of the Day Updated at Galactic Hunter
|
Galactic Hunter has posted a new Q&A column this week! Be sure to click through and read up on the latest! Also, be sure to send in your questions for next week's thrilling update.
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Mace Windu figure from the seemingly similar but vastly improved release this past summer. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

16bit.com Figure of the Day Updated
|
Something new! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? So far, only Star Wars!
Let's keep things going with the Takara Smallest Transforming Transformers Bumblebee figure from a few years back. It may be the only version of the figure you can fit up your nose-- it's Mini-Con small. Micromasters small. TINY. So read on, read our Star Wars one below, and come back next week for more!

New Transformers Thunderwing Gallery, Black Animated Rodimus
|
A new gallery at KOToys.com showing off several pictures of the Decepticon best known for having temporarily pinched the Matrix... which drove him crazy. Sadly, no Matrix seems to be included, but the toy itself looks pretty sharp.
Hyper Hobby Magazine will be getting a black repaint of Animated Rodimus complete with Decepticon logo.
Less newsworthy (but perhaps useful), we spotted both Generations Blurr and Dirge yesterday at a Phoenix area Wal-Mart store. We've been told they started appearing as early as late September, but this is the first we've seen of them. In short: Dirge is basically exactly what you would expect if you have any of the classic mold Decepticon jets, complete with incorrect symbols on his wing and chest. Blurr is basically Generations Drift, although with better weapons. Neither is a bad buy, particularly for the $9.00 Target and Wal-Mart are currently charging for this type of toy.

Marvel Universe New Wave Hits Stores
|
Fans of Hasbro's growing Marvel Universe 3 3/4-inch figure line will be happy to know the latest wave is hitting stores-- we found them at a Phoenix-area Target. They include: Thanos, Iron Man 2020, Dark Hawkeye, Yellowjacket, and a bunch of repacks. (And the Juggernaut.)

Rare Movie G.I. Joe Hitting Closeout, New Vehicles Hitting
|
The Rise of Cobra line is getting its final lease on life with a grand dumping at closeout shops all over the USA. Be sure to check TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross, and Tuesday Morning for Rise of Cobra figures at $3.99-$4.99. We found a Pit Viper and a friend of ours found a Kamakura-- although if he were a real friend, he would have bought us some extras as we want a sample. Curses. And good hunting.
After months of not seeing them locally, we finally spotted the Pursuit of Cobra Ice Cutter and AWE Striker at a Phoenix area Wal-Mart, although not the same one as we found the Transformers. We were busy. Each was $16.99 and it seems the AWE Striker is the faster seller so far.

Bricklink Founder Dies
|
A very popular resource of LEGO fans has been Bricklink, an unofficial marketplace where you could buy a set or even a piece that you wanted for, generally speaking, a pretty good price from another fan. We have been informed that Dan Jezek, founder of the site, has passed. No age was given, our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. He died in September.

Let's keep things going with the Mezco Hellboy Golden Army Comic-Con Hellboy figure from 2008. While it looks great, it's a little fragile-- Mezco does fine work but you do need to be careful with this nifty collectible. So read on, leave a comment, read our Star Wars one below, and come back next week for more!

Transformers Q&A, Grapple Gallery
|
The KOToys.com forum has a gallery of Grapple showing the figure by itself and next to the always stunning Botcon exclusive Pyro. Or Spark. Whatever.
Also, Hasbro "answered" two of our questions as part of their regular Q&A program, and we assume the manner in which #1 was addressed was of the TLDR variety. Oh well, maybe we'll do better next time.

Mattel vs. MGA Bratz Lawsuit
|
The LA Business Journal says the MGA lawsuit has resulted in a new trial which means things are looking up for MGA after having its Bratz line more or less pulled from the market for about a year. A judge granted MGA the ability to start shipping new product to shelves a few months ago.
From the journal: "The judge confirmed earlier rulings by other courts that $100 million in damages awarded to Mattel after a 2008 jury trial should be vacated, and granted MGA's request for a new trial. The trial is set for Jan. 11."

Two Games for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released (and two more)
|
Xbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels, a $10/800 points game with the trading cards you, in theory, enjoy. Do you?
Also new is and old fighting game from SNK Playmore, THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2002 UNLIMITED MATCH , a $10/800 points fighter. We really should give this a whirl but we've been traveling all week.
We also missed two more from last week, which had two games already: Haunted House for $10/800 points and Bloody Good Time, another rare $5/400 points game.

G.I. Joe Jurassic Joe Returns? Maybe?
|
A "mystery pilot" that may or may not be a "Jurassic Joe" figure (an as-of-yet unreleased subline of Jurassic Park toys made from G.I. Joe parts) is up at HISSTank.com and is complete with Hasbro Far East markings on his face. We have literally no read on what's going on with this line, but if you know anything do let us know.

San Francisco To Ban Happy Meal Toys?
|
Jello was right, the town that hath given Jerry Brown has problems. NPR reports the city will be ruining a rite of passage for young San Franciscans in that "in an 8-3 vote, the [San Francisco's Board of Supervisors] passed a preliminary version of a new rule that forbids toy freebies with meals that don't meet minimum nutritional standards." What the hell, man?
While we were young, we knew the food was iffy. But like many boxes of sugar cereal, you do what you have to do.

New Man or Astro-Man 7" and How To Get It
|
Once more Chunklet.com has the scoop on how to get the new Man or Astro-Man 7" record with the Touchable Sound book. The songs include "Updated Theme to Supercar," which may or may not be the same version from the All Punk Rods album, plus "Earth Station Radio" presumably from the Jabberjaw No. 6 Pure Sweet Hell 4x7"/box CD.
"Paypal $39 directly to mike at soundscreendesign dot com (obviously take out the 'at' and 'dot' and replace with '@' and '.', skeezix) and, hey, don't say that Chunklet never did anything for you."
We ordered a copy to review for you later, and verified this was indeed the right place to do it.

Today we look at the Hem Dazon figure from the (especially in hindsight) really good 2006 line of action figures. This one is unique in that Hasbro seemingly designed a chunk of it, as the figure in the film was just a head. One of our favorite films of 2010 was the flick Machete, and The Digital Bits reports it'll be on DVD and Blu-Ray in January. They also say:
"...20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced Robert Rodriguez' Machete for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/4/11 (SRP $39.99 and $29.98). Extras on both will include an audience reaction track and deleted scenes. The BD will also include a Digital Copy."

New G.I. Joe Club Magazine Arrives
|
The G.I. Joe Collector's Club Magazine for November arrived over the weekend, and it's actually pretty good-- thin on content, but there were a few highlights. The main one being the cover, giving us the first color look at the Sea Wolf vehicle and the Sea Adventurer for the 3 3/4-inch Adventure Team sub-line. Having picked up the first sets, we can say that it's a fun line and we don't feel stupid paying the premium.
The other neat article was an extended look at the design of the Pursuit of Cobra Cobra Trooper SWAT figure, which has a ridiculous amount of gear and detail. There are loads of images and a great interview, which is something I'd love to see more of on these figures. Great work, Joe Club!

Skeeter Plucked From Obscurity, Enters Comics
|
If you loved the Muppets and were young enough to be watching Saturday morning TV in the 1980s, you may recall Skeeter. Skeeter was a new character on Muppet Babies who, for the most part, was ignored in future projects. Our pal Joe found an adult version of the character in the new comic books based on the characters, which is, well, it surprised us. Do check it out.

New Aquabats EP Today
|
For fans of The Aquabats, their new album is coming in 2010. Today though, they have a new EP called "Radio Down!" 3 songs, no [known] physical release. Amazon has it for $2.29, iTunes has it for $2.49.
We hope it's fun. And they're really not much of a ska act anymore, but since it's also no longer 1996 we're OK with that.

Something new! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Tell a friend if you like it, give meaning to our miserable lives!
We're very fond of this Onell Design Glyos System Silver Gobon Action Figure which we got in the mail last summer. It's not quite a designer toy, and it's not quite a mass-market plaything. One of our favorite figures of the past summer was the Hasbro Pursuit of Cobra G.I. Joe Quick Kick figure from Hasbro. It combines a little Bruce Lee with the retro G.I. Hasbro (Potentially) Confirms No Jurassic Joe
|
Yet another Jurassic Park G.I. Joe test shot has appeared on eBay and, if Hasbro is to be believed, this may be the only place you'll ever see them. What a drag, we would love to have seen the packaging designs for these.
Odds are eBay will be the only place you see these figures, so if you didn't buy one from an Asian auction you'll probably pay through the nose. Fan site Johio.com participated in Hasbro's Q&A and got this answer on the leaked Jurassic Park line which would have used G.I. Joe molds:
"The Jurassic Park figures that were leaked online, were in fact, prototypes for a line that never made it to store."
Hasbro does employ crafty use of the English language and in at least one case in a recent Q&A has an outright falsehood, but this has been par for the course in these official Q&As over the past few years. It's possible that there's another half of the sentence they aren't sharing just yet, but for the time being the official word is that these aren't going to make it out there. (And no, we have zero inside information on any future releases on Jurassic Park for 2011 or 2012-- we expected to see more this year, but we guess Toys "R" Us wussed out.)

Nintendo Wisely Trademarks Common Phrase

Transformers Fake Thundercracker ID Guide
|
One of the most maddening things in collecting toys these days is a surprising influx of high-quality fakes out of Asia. Convention exclusives, vintage robots, and more are getting knocked off and the latest victim is Henkei Thundercracker, previously known as the most common version of the "classics" toy. Seibertron.com has a gallery comparing the real deal from the fake and while there are some very good telltale signs, most of them are in robot mode. As such, you might be safer dealing in loose ones, or perhaps just waiting for Hasbro to make a new one in the inevitable Classics 4.0 wave in 2014.

Jason and the Argonauts Revoltech
|
NCS has a few new pre-orders today including this swell Revoltech Jason and the Argonauts Skeleton Warrior coming in February. It's a high-end action figure (meaning $39.90) of the classic Ray Harryhousen effect, and really, it's about as good as you can expect. If you're in Japan, you can get it, otherwise expect to pay to import one.

Revoltech Godzilla Anguirus A-Coming
|
Coming to Japan in February 2011 is Revoltech Anguirus and he's totally packed with articulation and detail. He'll be close to $40, but this is a $40 action figure-- just look at it! As a Japanese import, don't expect to see too many in the USA.

Transformers News Round-Up: Kup, Rumble, Frenzy
|
The KOToys.com forum has a gallery of Kup showing that this is a genuinely spectacular little toy, and it's due next year. While it is odd to see him with a believable Earth mode, the figure does have a great gun which fits in nicely, plus can snap on to the roof of his car with those little c-clamps. That's what we're going to call them. Anyway it looks like a great toy and we're all quite pleased that good things came to those who waited.
There has also been confusion on the size of the new Rumble and Frenzy toys-- most best estimates, including this article by fan Matt Booker, shows that these are above-average Scout-sized toys. It's unknown how they will be sold in the USA, but in Japan it'll be a two-pack near the Voyager price point.

|
Something new! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Tell a friend if you like it, give meaning to our miserable lives!
We're very fond of this Hasbro Transformers Universe Cyclonus Action Figure which we got in the mail not too long ago. So read on, leave a comment, read our Star Wars one below, and send us more toys to write about!

In a surprise bit of news, despite packaged samples previously showing something else it seems that Legends Megatron may get a safety orange cap after all. It's visually interesting and now apparently will create yet another legendary variation-- good hunting!

|
Something new! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! This new feature updates 5 times a week, and we now have a comments section! Register your disdain with our staff!
One of our favorite figures of the past summer was the Hasbro Transformers Universe Galvatron Action Figure figure from Hasbro. It takes a problematic figure and manages to give it a better paint job, but the toy itself is far, far worse. So read on, leave a comment, read our Star Wars one below, and come back tomorrow for more!

Also new is Alien Breed 3: Descent, a $10/800 points shooter. They claim it's an "explosive science fiction arcade-shooter with an epic story, swarms of highly intelligent alien enemies, high-impact weapons, highly detailed environments, developed using Epic Games' Unreal® Engine 3."

Let's keep things going with Hasbro Transformers Hunt for the Decepticons Breacher figure from just a few months ago-- but he's still damned near impossible to find. Spastic Getting Name Change?
|
A post at TFW2005 hints that Hasbro may be reconsidering the name for its upcoming Transformers Power Core Combiners toy Spastic. Depending on the status of the packaging and all, it could end up being a running change or (since this didn't come out of Hasbro directly) something that may not end up happening. Either way, it's fun to watch people scream at each other isn't it?
As always, you can pre-order the toy from our sponsors at Entertainment Earth.

|
Today we look at the Imperial Scanning Trooper figure from 2009's "Legacy" line. It was meant to have a companion scanner which never saw production. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!
Finally, Galactic Hunter posted a preview of the Target-exclusive Vintage 9-pack, which is probably the best price and packaging we've seen for a box of repacks in quite some time. 9 figures, $50, and a lot of these are essential figures if you don't already have them.

New Transformers Galleries, New Toys Released
|
Looking for previews of new toys-- even when you can't get the ones that are shupping? KOToys.com has a gallery of Scourge as well as one of G2 Laser Optimus Prime, the latter of which doesn't seem to be as clear (or the toy as good) as usual. Still, worth checking out.
A Gallery of Lugnut at HK-TF has been up and down at the whims of Photobucket-- so check it out, but it might be gone.
We found Power Core Combiners Grimstone and Steamhammer at a Phoenix-area Wal-Mart. We also found Generations Skullgrin, Thunderwing, and Cliffjumper at various Targets-- apparently if you see a store with empty pegs, it may be worth your while to ask them to pull out a box. (That's how we found Thunderwing.) We have personally seen and bought all 5 of these toys. We hear (but have not seen) Jazz and Tracks are hitting Walgreen's (yes, the drug store) as well as Kmart but have not found any just yet. Good hunting.
...for the curious, Grimstone is about on par with other PCC toys we've bought-- sort of floppy and awkward-- while Thunderwing is short, but really pretty cool. At press time we're still photographing and opening the other toys, but we'd strongly suggest avoiding Grimstone unless you get it cheap.
Also we caught the premiere episode of Transformers Prime and hated it. Your mileage may vary. We suggest you take the 22 minutes you'd have spent watching this driving around to find new toys instead.

TFClub Customs/Unlicensed Figure Updates
|
Whatever your preferred euphemism may be, TFW2005 happens to be showing off new TFClub items including deformed toys, targetmasters, headmasters, and some other things Hasbro hasn't licensed and, if history is any indication, will ignore.
Also, we found Reveal the Shield Special Ops Jazz and Turbo Tracks at a Phoenix area Kmart, although pricing is all over the place because Hasbro's data entry person never sent UPCs to Kmart. For shame. Ours cost $10.99 each, although we have heard many fans getting them for as little as $5-- your mileage may vary. It took us about 30 minutes to get our samples at full price, and we must say Tracks was arguably worth it. (Jazz, we haven't opened yet.) High marks also to Skullgrin and very high marks to Power Core Combiners Steamhammer.
Finally, promos on the Hub Network indicate that after the initial 5-part miniseries, Transformers Prime will be on hiatus until February 2011.
