A catalog juggernaut that had a lot of exclusive action figures in the 1990s, JCPenney got mostly out of toys until recently. Some stores have action figures, dolls, LEGO, Playmobil, and the whole bit - but not a ton of it. There are some markdowns, though, so maybe go take a look at your local store even if it isn't closing.
Depending on your area, this may mean your malls will have even fewer - or no - anchor stores, with other major chains evaporating. It was almost unthinkable that we'd lose Kmart, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Mervyn's, Shopko, and Toys R Us might ever be in trouble in our lifetimes, but here we are.
More Sega Genesis Mini Games Disclosed, Including Rare & New Ones!
Via Sega: More Sega Genesis Mini games. Not only are there a bunch of rare shooters and platformers including the unreleased-to-US-cartridge Mega Man game, it includes Tetris and Darius. This port of Darius is apparently a homebrew made recently in Japan. Nobody has this one. It also includes Tetris, legit cartridges of which are bafflingly rare.
At $80 this is arguably worth it just for a couple of the weird and rare games - so it goes without saying that short of it being declared functional trash, I'll be getting one. Strider is also included now.
From the article: "The series is set within the timeline of the 2015 film 'Jurassic World' and hails from DreamWorks Animation. It follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they'll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they're going to survive."
This continues the tradition of Star Wars cartoons with younger and inexperienced characters, and also an upcoming Star Trek series where teenagers steal a starship. There's a pattern emerging.
While Hasbro frequently licenses out its game properties to other manufactures to reproduce - USAOpoly, Winning Solutions, and Winning Moves come to mind - Hasbro typically does its own main toy lines. We've seen G.I. Joe loaned out for Sgt. Rock, but this is certainly new. Could we see the same in the future for other Hasbro brands that don't get a lot of love, like M.A.S.K. or Xevoz or Micronauts.

The download goal is around $30, and a PS4/Xbox One/Switch disc/cartridge is around $60. The release is currently scheduled for December 2020, but you know Kickstarter developments.
Via Playmobil: Mystery Mobil: Warner Bros. Partners with Playmobil for Scooby-Doo Toys. It's one of a few new licenses you may be hearing about, thanks to this week's Licensing Show in Las Vegas. (I was there last year. It was fine.) Heidi was announced earlier in the year but... you know. No monsters.
The toys are set for 2020 and should coincide with a new movie. All we know of so far are the core cast of kids and the Mystery Machine, but monster packs and a haunted theme park seem like they would be a nice fit.
This is a link to the E3 trailer video. It's three players. Will it be good? Well, who knows, it's not like anyone can get to level 4 in these games. Other news you probably heard by now include a new controller, specs for the next Xbox, Blair Witch, Fallen Order, Halo, Cyberpunk 2077 with Keanu Reeves, Gears (of War) 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator, a new LEGO Star Wars Game, Minecraft Dungeons, and a lot of other stuff.
Nintendo's show at E3 is Tuesday at 9 AM Pacific. Sony also announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake for March 3 2020.

Review: Fisher-Price Imaginext Series 12 Collectible Figures Clawtron
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A tribute to a classic! The Fisher-Price Imaginext Series 12 Collectible Figures Clawtron mixes up elements from Clawtron and the Firestar I pilot to give you a $3 retro figure with bizarre clear green accessories! (What, no clear green alien?) So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Hasbro writes: Go Go POWER RANGERS! From the BEAST MORPHERS back to the original MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS, the POWER RANGERS have brought teamwork, action and adventure to generations of fans. The legacy continues with figures, vehicles, collectibles, and roleplay toys from Hasbro, celebrating ranger teams from MIGHTY MORPHIN to the BEAST MORPHERS. Imagine all the action of POWER RANGERS with toys from Hasbro! These 6-inch LIGHTNING COLLECTION MIGHTY MORPHIN RED RANGER and ZEO GOLD RANGER figures each features multiple points of articulation for high poseability and include two different heads that can be swapped, one of the Ranger in his helmet, and another without inspired by the Jason Lee Scott character, the original Red Ranger! This set also comes with Power Axe, Power Bow, Power Blades, Power Lance and Power Sword accessories that can be assembled to build the Power Blaster. Look for other collectible figures in this Lightning Collection, including Mighty Morphin White Ranger. Each sold separately. Available at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and on Hasbro Pulse following the convention.
These should go well with wave 1 (out now) and wave 2 due later this year. Also, all the various exclusives coming and presumably many future waves to come!
If you are a fan of physical games and real cartridges which you can own (and potentially sell when you're done with them), fight the tyranny of download-only games and look at the list of upcoming cartridge releases.
TurboGrafx-16, PC Engine, SuperGrafx Mini Consoles Coming
Well, I didn't see this one coming. Konami owns Hudson. Hudson and NEX were the brains behind the TurboGrafx-16 console. TurboGrafx-16 Mini Consoles are coming soon. There are regional variations and an incomplete list of games so far, but Alien Crush and R-Type are included.
Kotaku and other outlets have reports, but no prices and no release dates. Given it's the 30th anniversary of the console - and the Genesis - it makes sense. There's no 30th Anniversary GameBoy stuff yet, though. This more or less completes the 16-bit era trifecta in the USA. (No we don't count the Neo-Geo here. Nobody had that. Not even you.)
Since the Japanese one has Dracula X and Bonk's Adventure, I assume I will be buying both. Considering that this could be a golden opportunity to try games many of us completely missed, I expect this could be popular.

According to the site tease, colors include orange and green. Molds include an Outer Space Men figure as well as Pheyaos, some Kenner-colored toy, Buildman, and some other goodies. It sounds like I'll be buying a few things.
The action figures look like they are likely to be 1980s-scaled but modern constructed figures with alternate hands, heads, and other accessories - and it's the start of a new line, according to other reports. At-con pre-orders begin June 17.
Turtles includes both four-player brawlers with four controllers. Star Wars is modeled after the 1983 stand-up unit, complete with flight yoke. The Marvel cabinet has 3 games, none of which are X-Men vs. Street Fighter - but should still be a hit.
Searsden is the mystery figure, joining a Rift Killer (Toy Pizza Knights of the Slice) and the all-new Pheyaos (RealXHead crossover) in three different colors.
Via the Outer Space Men News blog: Tonight: Outer Space Men Colossus Rex Tyraxsis. It's a bit expensive at $25, but Onell Design has the bright orange creature for sale right now. Unless it sold out.
I believe this makes 9 crossovers with Onell Design.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Arcade Archives Solomon's Key, Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer, Contra Anniversary Collection, Collection of Mana, and several dozen others.
Via the Glyos News Dump: Toy Pizza Knights of the Slice Drop - Device Ninjas Monday! While no menu is up at press time, a "Regen Chamber" (pictured) popped up on eBay over the weekend alongside various Material Boys, Device Ninjas, Mikros, and other possibilities. It's up at 12:00 PM Eastern, whatever it is. I want a pizza chrome box.
Via the BeImaginext Instagram: A new Shark Hunters line surfaces! Where and when remains to be seen, as non-licensed Imaginext is in short supply at American big box stores. Heck, all Imaginext is in pretty short supply these days.
The line seems to be heavy on redeco toys, and odds are you can recognize them from sets you saw at Toys R Us before it closed and elsewhere. Here's hoping they make it out!
Via the Glyos News Dump: Banimon: October Drop in 2019? The Banimon blog teases an October release, along with word of what may be the final comic and probably the end of the toy line. The important thing: more stuff is on the way.

Review: Fisher-Price Imaginext Series 7 Collectible Figures Buster of Ghosts
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
At this time this is the last known 3 3/4-inch-scale The Outer Space Men action figure. This isn't to say there won't or can't be more, or that there won't be a short break. There was a pretty big gap between the final Infinity Editions from the first general release in Spring of 2014 under the Four Horsemen until Gary and Mel brought the line back in house in Summer of 2016. I look forward to more if they ever make them! Until then, we've always got the big vinyl figures.
Via Terra Onion: MegaSD MegaCD SegaCD Fpga Cardridge! It's 232 Euro, and apparently is somewhere in the realm of an Everdrive, but with support for 32X and Sega CD games. It's due August 2019 and, obviously, is not cheap.
Old Sega CD hardware tends to be failing on the regular, so a way to play your games on original-ish hardware may be of value to many gamers with rips of their old CD games. I have seen no reviews yet, but look forward to reading them later this summer.

Knights of the Slice's creator Toy Pizza will be there along with Onell Design, ToyFinity, Spaced-Out Design, MechaZone, and several other makers and dealers. If you can't make it to San Diego for Comic-Con International, maybe you'll need to plan a trip to New York.
"Play as Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist's curse which slowly crystallizes her body. To save humanity, and herself in the process, she must fight through the castle and defeat the summoner, Gebel."
Via Strictly Limited Games: Ultracore Physical Copy for the Genesis / Mega Drive! Two separate runs of this game have already sold through in two days - presumably another batch will be put up eventually. It seems the run for moderate-profile games is usually in the low thousands... which is higher than they seemingly ran for this.
This is indeed the same game included on board Analogue's Mega Sg console, and I did not find it to be all that engaging. It's by no means bad but I have been distracted by the many cartridges I've had for years... and a few new ones. You can also get it for Switch and PS4.

Via Kickstarter: Orange Island - An action-adventure RPG with heart. While an actual cartridge is available, it's a stretch goal - at press time it looks close, but it won't get unlocked until it gets £34,000 - and it's almost half that with 29 days to go.
The game seems to include shooting game and platforming game elements too, so it could be a gem. Developer Ted Sterchi promotes himself as a former Sega programmer, and there seems to be a steady appetite for new NES games at the rate they seem to be coming up. And there is a playable demo! It seems a lot like Legacy of the Wizard.
Via the Glyos News Dump: New Godbeast Drop Friday 6/28. We're told it's glow, but not red, and not green. What else is there? I'd probably feel blue if I missed it.

Via Marketwatch: Trump threatens Vietnam, which has been benefiting from U.S. tariffs on China. For those keeping track, a possible 25% tax on Chinese toys has been threatened to take place pretty much any day now - and that's most toys. Funko manufactures a lot of Pop! Vinyl Figures in Vietnam, and Hasbro produces Transformers in that country. This effectively taxes most toys adult male collectors probably buy, except Hot Wheels which are primarily made in Indonesia.
As someone in the business, there has been a general buzz of "buy your stuff now" in the background. It may be worth your while to buy your holiday gifts now rather than waiting, if you assume these new taxes on dang near everything go through.
Via Toho: 65th Anniversary 1954 Godzilla Deluxe Vinyl Figure (2019 Convention Exclusive). It's $30 from BanDai, glittery grey and clear, and at booth $3535. It's 6 1/2-inches tall, so that's pretty much in line with those really cool vinyl figures you may have seen at Kay-Bee, Kmart, Walmart, and Toys R Us over the years.
It's similar to the "Fusion Series" from a few years ago, which means it looks pretty awesome.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Arcade Archives Wild Western, Devil May Cry, SEGA AGES Virtua Racing, SEGA AGES Wonder Boy: Monster Land, and several dozen others.
