Star Wars Figure of the Day Updated
|
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the R4-P44 figure from last year. It's a build-a-figure, so it's going to be a huge pain in the butt to get in the future. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Transformers Seacons Go To Big Bad Toy Store
|
The most surprising reissue news in ages was that the Seacons are returning, but as of last weekend at Botcon, Hasbro would not confirm who got them. It turns out they will be exclusive to online seller BigBadToyStore.com and will set you back about $60. It's due later this summer, and has all six team members so you can build Piranacon!

Puzzle Quest 2, Ooga for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Buried This Week
|
Xbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Puzzle Quest 2, which has more levels of leveling up. The $15/1,200 point title is one- or two-player, so yeah, there you go.
Also available for $10/800 points is Ancients of Ooga, which we are told involves eating and throwing up! How 1990s teenage mall-dwelling girl of it.

Saturn Games To Return on Downloadable Platforms

Even though the games we're most interested in would come from Treasure, Capcom, or elsewhere, this nifty site has an article saying Sega may be considering Saturn download releases, and dang if that wouldn't be cheaper than buying the discs!

HISSTank.com Reviews HISS Tank V

HISSTank.com, appropriately enough, has a review up of the new toy HISS Tank. It looks fairly customizable with stickers, and they say it actually requires some assembly just like the 1980s vehicles. Sounds fun!

Gerry Casale on Devo 2.0, More
|
If you like Devo you are no doubt in love with the fact that the band is doing more press than, well, ever. They're pretty open about things we haven't heard much about, and this recent AVClub.com interview with Jerry Casale goes into some detail about the whole Devo 2.0 project and what it was like for music suits to actually read Devo lyrics rather than ignore them while listening to a song. It's remarkable. Read it.

New Spider-Man Cast: Andrew Garfield
|
If you were watching Twitter, odds are you had an interest in Donald Glover's campaign to be Peter Parker. Not Donald Glover got the part, and Sci-Fi Wire named Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker as the new webslinger. We're not familiar with him, but we're not very up on such things.

Giant Freaking Prehistoric Whale on BBC

Today we look at the Dengar figure from the brand-new Vintage 2010 line. It blows away the previous Dengar and is astoundingly good as a collector figure and a toy figure. We didn't see that coming. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

UK Gets WFC Legends Starscream Repaint
|
A bunch of galleries are sprouting up of a UK bonus toy. It's Starscream repainted from the Legends Cybertron mold from about 4 or 5 years ago. It has more blue on it, but it seems pretty similar to the original, only it will cost you gobs more money. Hell, for all we know it's an elaborate hoax.

HISSTank.com Reviews G.I. Joe Doom Cycle
|
HISSTank.com, appropriately enough, has a review up of the new toy Pursuit of Cobra Doom Cycle. It seems to be a modern take on the Dreadnoks, which, you have to admit, are a little goofy by today's standards. We like it! The motorcycle jacket is pretty cool, the figure has a great design on his back.

Star Wars Figure of the Day Updated, Vehicle Features Too
|
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Anakin Skywalker (Tatooine Showdown) figure from 1999, which was basically just as good (or bad) as all the others from that time frame. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Even More Darkmount Shots, PCC TV Spot
|
Via S250 and TFW2005.com are some packaged shots of Oilpan, Breacher, Leadfoot, Icepick, and Sledge. It's a pretty safe bet these will be in stores before September if not much earlier.
Also exciting, Asian site TFG2.com has an extensive gallery of War for Cybertron concept and character art, which is basically like a digital artbook you don't pay for. It's also incredibly slow, so fair warning. One of the Ratchet concepts looks a lot like Drift.

Nintendo Wii Downloads This Week: VC Vacation
|
This week's WiiWare offerings are Pearl Harbor Trilogy - 1941: Red Sun Rising for $7/700 points, plus Cruise Party for $8/800 points.
The Virtual Console has nothing, again. Which is pretty damned sad considering there are literally thousands of games sitting around to monetize.
--AP
|
Nintendo DSi Downloads This Week: Six More
|
Many games this week. For $2/200 points is QuickPick Farmer, which is this week's token cheapo game. For $5/500 points, you can choose from Soul of Darkness, SteamWorld Tower Defense, 101 Shark Pets, Hello Flowerz, or Flips: The Folk of the Faraway Tree.

Community Season 1 DVD in September?
|
Over on TVShowsOnDVD.com you can find what appears to be confirmation of the first season of Community on DVD. Note we did not say "and also Blu-Ray."
All 25 episodes are said to have commentary tracks, which is downright unusual for a new comedy but is most welcome for a show this densely packed. Expect it in or around September 21.

Masterpiece Grimlock To Debut at Comic-Con After All?
|
According to this post at Entertainment Earth combined with the total lack of Grimlocks at Toys "R" Us, it's entirely possible that the item will make its debut in San Diego this month rather than on store shelves on July 1. As it is July 7, and nary a Grimlock has been spotted.
From the site: Toys"R"Us is offering three SDCC Exclusives and a limited edition exclusive product debut: [...] and Transformers Masterpiece Grimlock ($70)
...and yes, we do work with Entertainment Earth, and no, we don't know for sure. Toys "R" Us and shelf dates don't mix well these days.

Review: Transformers Generations Drift
|
To date there is only one Drift toy, which is pretty amazing considering the brand's longevity. We can probably thank the recent notion of drift racing, which is where the character's name comes from in addition to his personality in the comics. He's largely presented as a smug, confident badass with swords and Japanese all over his person, essentially the synthesis of everything you loved as a teenager or as a young fan which currently represents everything that annoys you about those respective groups. But the important thing to remember here is that the toy itself is a personality-free block of consumer goods, and it's excellent. [ READ THE FULL REVIEW ]

Clear Shots of Both Versions of Sgt. Slaughter's Packaging
|
Today, both variants of Sgt. Slaughter can be seen at The Terror Drome and they're both different enough to be worthwhile. They also have variant card art, which is a nice touch.
Also! Fans of cheap thrills should go to Kmart, as their 2009 Rise of Cobra desert-themed exclusive figure 4-pack is on clearance. How cheap? We saw piles at $4.99 each.

New Super Mario Figures, Shooting Historica Delayed
|
Game importer NCS has some interesting toy updates. The first, New Super Mario Bros. Wii Kinetic Figures with movement! Or is that redundant? Bullet Bill, Penguin Mario, a propeller toadstool, and more are on the way. Neat stuff.
Also, Shooting Historica 4 got delayed. Yujin's vehicle set included items from Pop'n Twinbee, Darius Burst, Xexex, and others.

Monkey Island 2, Blacklight for the Xbox 360 Live Released This Week
|
Xbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge, which is another remake in a series of beloved pirate adventures. The $10/800 point title lets you switch between old pixels and new hand-drawn art, so hooray.
Also available for $10/800 points is Blacklight: Tango Down, you can shoot things in the first person. It supports up to 16 players online, is $15/1,200 points, and has few reviews so far. So it might be good!

|
Today we look at the Clone Trooper (Gelagrub Patrol) figure from 2009, which came with a giant bug. The Clone itself has exceptional articulation and the lateral hip joints we all love so much. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Nintendo Wii Downloads This Week: VC Hates You
|
This week's WiiWare offerings are AquaSpace for $6/600 points, plus both Furry Legends and HoopWorld, each at $10/1,000 points.
The Virtual Console has nothing, again, because Nintendo clearly hates us all for not getting good report cards. Remember when you used to have something to look forward to on Monday mornings? Well that's over.

Nintendo DSi Downloads This Week: More "Games"
|
Many games this week. For $2/200 points-$8/800 points are Petz Kittens, Crazy Sudoku, Happy Birthday Mart, Hospital Havoc, or Scrabble Tools.
Basically at this stage, we're not even sure which one is the most deserving of ridicule.

Deluxe Okami-den DS set, Awesome Saturn T-Shirt
|
Over on NCSX you can see two pretty neat items today. One (shown) is a cool Sega Saturn T-shirt, licensed and everything. The bad news? It's about $40.
Also interesting is this Okami-den Chiisaki Taiyo e-Capcom Collector's version which is stuffed with CDs, art books, a DVD, a novella, and some other stuff. If you liked Okami, you may wish to track this one down.

Animated Black Prime, G1 Movie 3-Pack Confirmed
|
This PDF of some Japanese catalog reveals a black Voyager Animated Optimus Prime repaint which we all pretty much figured was going to happen somewhere, somehow, eventually. It's going to be pretty expensive, close to US$50.
Also if you live in Hong Kong you can get this 3-pack of awesome Galvatron, Rodimus, and Cyclonus repaints. Can you sell us one? You should if you can, it's the right thing to do.

Outer Space Men Series 3 Prototypes, Packaged Alpha Figures
|
With the release of the first versions of series 1 and 2 in full swing at Comic-Con right now, the Four Horsemen revealed Mystron, the Man from Middle-Earth and Commander Comet, the Man from Venus. These are early prototypes, but they seem to be shaping up well.
The aforementioned exclusive "Alpha Phase" figures are on sale at the Action Figure Xpress booth at Comic-Con, so if you're there, you might be able to score them before they sell through. The packaging is simple baggies with header cards, with a graphic layout similar to that of the original 40-year-old figures. Nice!

New 3 3/4-Inch Battle Beasts Revealed
|
New pictures of previously unannounced Battle Beasts were on display at Diamond Select Toys, and they weren't Minimates! These were entirely new sculpts (still no fire/wood/water markings) and seemed to be pretty detailed. The goal is to release them for about $15 in 2011, although this is not at all set in stone and may well change. Five figures were photographed, three of which we decided were good, one was a little funky, and another we outright disliked. We prefer the line come out as cheaper, less articulated toys at a lower price point but we aren't in a position to make the call now are we?
Also, a repaint of the Aligator figure with a new axe was handed out as a gift-with-purchase at their booth! You had to spend about $20 to get it, but it's pretty awesome.

Transformers Galvatron, Rodimus, Cyclonus Universe Set
|
HKTF posted first packaged images of the foreign exclusive (for now, at least) Transformers Universe Challenge at Cybertron boxed set, which has arguably improved repaints of Cyclonus, Rodimus, and Galvatron. Gygor, Skeletor with Mo-Larr, Grizzlor, Orko, and others can be seen here, so check it out. Pre-orders from some online sellers orbit $40, which doesn't seem remotely awful if it doesn't hit the USA.

Sexual Milkshake's Sing-A-Long in Hebrew Getting Rerelease... Sorta
|
An unusual (and hard-to-find) album from the 1990s is getting a rerelease on MP3 come September 7! Why not now? We don't know. There seem to be no plans for a new CD or other hardcopy release, but on the bright side Amazon is asking only $6.99, although we lost the confirmation of that, so perhaps not. There is presently no sign of the album on iTunes or, seemingly, other services.

New Funko Force Figures Kick Ass
|
One of the neater reveals last week was Funko's new "Funko Force 2.0" line, a 3 3/4-inch deformed line of figures inspired by their own house style for plush. We really like it-- SRP on these will be around eight bucks. DC figures were shown (and sold) at the show, including a large number of super-limited edition prepaints. Batman here was only 240 pieces. We asked about future licenses and since we did not specifically ask which ones we can tell you about, we can't say what they were, but we will say they make us incredibly happy. (And if they add in Classic Planet of the Apes we'll be very happy.)

Nintendo DSi Downloads This Week: More "Games"
|
Many games this week. We don't much know which is worth paying attention to, but for $2-$8 are Face Pilot: Fly With Your Nintendo DSi Camera!, Crystal Monsters, Puffins: Let's Race!, Petz Hamsterz Family, and Absolute BrickBuster. The last of which actually sounds fun.
Basically at this stage, we're not even sure which one is the most deserving of ridicule.

Outer Space Men: Basically Vintage Kenner Star Wars Toys
|
Over on Outer Space Men News you can see images of the San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Outer Space Men toys in recent Star Wars vehicles, which gives you a sense of scale. They're basically jointed similarly to the old 1970s Kenner Star Wars toys, with few extra joints for added fun. If this doesn't give you reason to buy Mini-Rigs, nothing does.

LEGO Pirates Jack Sparrow Revealed
|
This LEGO Jack Sparrow figure was on display at Comic-Con in the Prince of Persia booth which LEGO probably accurately guessed pretty much nobody was looking at. Batman Beyond Complete DVD Coming; Funko Force 2.0 Revealed
|
Via TVShowsOnDVD.com comes the announcement of all things Batman Beyond on DVD in a single box, plus some bonus stuff, for about $100. 53 episodes, 9 DVDs, no release date. If you missed the previous Batman: The Animated Series box like a chump (like us [or are waiting for the Blu-Ray {also like us}]), you might want to get this.
We're also enamored with Funko's Batman line of Funko Force figures, which are easily the best interpretation we've seen of the characters in some time. These are due out in the fall.
As you can see, the designs riff on urban vinyl and their own plush house style, as seen in the Green Lantern pictured above. We are pleased. We also want a free set of these. (Actually we're just being snotty, we'd totally buy these.)

PSP: PSN Updates This Week
|
New to download this week: Piyotama for $4.99. It's a bird hatching puzzle game. From the site: "Piyotama for the PSP picks up where the PS3 version left off, with Piyomama needing your color matching skills, quick thinking and fast thumbs to help her hatch her colorful eggs before they overflow the nest." Doesn't sound half bad.
Presumably the same PSOne games are also available. No we didn't see it explicitly listed.

Transformers Masterpiece Rodimus, 3-Pack Info Revealed
|
First up it seems early prototype images of Masterpiece Rodimus are making the rounds and this poor thing ain't barely done yet. S250 has shots at TFW2005, although issues like size and price are up in the air.
Also interesting (and contrary to previous intel), it seems that awesome Challenge at Cybertron 3-Pack with Cyclonus, Rodimus, and Galvatron may well be coming to Target. Hasbro has not confirmed this, but we suppose it is indeed possible and our fingers are crossed. It would make a great Black Friday item.
