Axiom Verge 2 Disc/Cartridge for PS4/Swtich
|
Via Limited Run Games: Axiom Verge 2 for PS4 and Switch. I couldn't find a release date, but I assume it'll be late 2022 or 2023 since the fanciest tiers include actual action figures. Other bonus items include the first game (which I have been replaying and is excellent), vinyl soundtracks, pins, and tons of other goodies.
Just the game is $35, the first two games together are $50, and the fancier bundles are much higher - it's worth checking out.

Review: Orbitdyne Gee Two HEAP Vinyl Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
My friend made this! The Orbitdyne Gee Two HEAP Vinyl Figure is a new vinyl figure that is made in small batches, hand-painted and surprisingly cast in the USA. I'm surprised too. It's a neat figure with an opening head you can cram stuff inside, including Funko's Pop! Vinyl figures. It's worth a look. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Amazon Japan Reveals Raiden Will Be Expensive
|
Via Amazon: Transformers Shouki. It's a masterpiece combiner, and this one costs $200. There should be six of them coming, meaning this will be the most expensive new combiner to date
As of my writing this I do not know about plans for US distribution.
Also, Takara-Tomy Mall posted actual product shots of Black Zarak, which they expect in March. You can also order Transformers Generations Selects Titan Black Zarak from Entertainment Earth if you live in the USA.
And if you really like Titan-class figures, there was an interesting other bit floating around which you probably saw and will almost assuredly not be sold at Family Dollar.

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R9-Series Astromech Droid White with Purple Panels (2015 Edition). The dome may not be super familiar outside fans of the classic Expanded Universe, but that's what makes it neat! Also it's very purple. Read the whole review.

HasLab Victory Saber - Final Weekend
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: HasLab Victory Saber Funding Ends October 11. That means if it's Monday, you waited too long!
At press time it's just over 15,000 supporters - which means you get the cannon and blast effects, but not necessarily the display stands (17,000) or shield with Micromaster buddies Holi and Fire (20,000.) Most of these were missing from the excellent, tiny Robot Masters toy nearly 20 years ago and it was fine. It was also around $20 and not $179.99.

HasLab Transformers Victory Saber - 22,713 Sold
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: HasLab Victory Saber funded with 22,713 units sold. That means it hit all stretch goals, including the shield with Micromasters Fire and Holi. (These are repaints of figures you can buy for $10 if you can't wait.)
At no time did Hasbro put an ETA on the product page - early backers got a "late 2022" date in their confirmation emails, and Takara-Tomy Mall has a page up with "2022 or later" as the date, so says Google translate. As such I would not anticipate it before holiday 2022, possibly 2023 if freight issues continue to be the nuisance they are today. Japan's pre-order is up for a little while longer at 26,950 yen. The US price was $179.99. I assume this means anyone who waited to back it will probably be shelling out at least $300.
The Rancor Monster is expected to launch this month.

Metroid Dread for Switch Ramblings
|
Metroid Dread came out last week, and it's good! It's a lot like Samus Returns for the 3DS with new and fun original upgrades, like a beam that can explode on impact and a more dynamic grapple beam. If you're in the market for the game in the USA, it's $59.99 for the regular edition or $89.99 for the limited edition. If you actually buy it in person in a Walmart stores - not online pickup, but in-person - the game sells for pennies under $50, or $10 off. (I haven't seen amiibo sets in the wild yet.)
I have absolutely no idea how far I am into it yet, having deactivated some of the EMMI droids, but I can say it's a fun and weird game to look at. Many of the earlier parts look like modern, sterile gaming - the EMMI robots look like something out of Aperture Science - but there are some nifty creature designs including some which are purely ornamental. You can walk through some areas and giant creatures just observe your from the background, in the shadows or outside of the window. That's delightful. The game also has some surprising cut scenes which I dare not spoil, providing fans with a lot of surprises along the way. I assume that there are nods to previous games in the series which will make no sense to anybody who hasn't played the previous four (or six) 2D games - heck, there's one I'd like to have explained to me - but it feels surprisingly fresh. The music is pretty forgettable, though. It's by no means bad, it's just... there.
I hope I have a long way to go still, but even if I don't, I'll probably bounce back into this one (or one of the two GBA games) after completing it. It's worth it.

Star Wars Review: Elite Squad Trooper (The Black Series 6-Inch)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Elite Squad Trooper (The Black Series 6-Inch). When is a Clone not a Clone? When it's this guy! This uses the 2020 upper body and the original double-jointed knees, making it a bit more than just a repaint. If you haven't seen The Bad Batch, this one may be new to you - but it looks cool, so get one. Read the whole review.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Authentics Bravo Ratchet Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A cheap one! The Hasbro Transformers Authentics Bravo Ratchet Action Figure is a de facto food and drug and value exclusive in the USA - so far I'm seeing them only at grocery stores, Walgreens, Five Below, and the occasional Family Dollar. It's $5-$7, and it's pretty neat for that price. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Revisited: Playmobil 6687 Super 4 Lost Island Figure Set
|
A few years ago I reviewed this Playmobil 6687 Super 4 Lost Island Figure Set.
It was $20 but sold poorly in the US and got distribution at Toys R Us and not many other spots. It was clearanced out for as little as $5. Since it had an alien, a raptor, and a nice figure, I bought it - but it turns out the set works like a charm with the recent Star Trek release. Take a look!
The old Star Trek sets were often a mix of studio backlots and very colorful environments which (along with shows like Batman) were showcases for the then-new and increasingly popular color TV sets. Some of these plants were used in other sets - the weird, knobby brown tree can be found in the dinosaur themes - but the strange fanned-out palm frond was unique to a couple of Super 4 sets. It's about as good as you can hope to get for a retro mid-century TV sci-fi playset, even if it's unintentional.
Since there are no known plans for additional Star Trek sets, and the Enterprise with a group of seven figures is the only item on the market right now, you might want to go through your older sets for some off-the-shelf display opportunities. If they ever get to 90s Trek, I'm hoping we get some sort of Star Trek Caves playset - you'd get a lot of use out of one.

Review: Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Witch Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Clearance find! The Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Witch Figure is not a particularly recent release, but older mystery figures have been showing up at deep discounters - so you may see them for $1 or $2 somewhere. This one is green and purple with a huge mole and bad teeth, making it one of the more colorful entries in the coven of figures Playmobil has put out. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

New Transformers Legacy Previewed
|
Via Iggin: New Transformers: Generations Legacy Figure Line Announced by Hasbro. Legacy Skids looks like Skids, and Bulkhead seems to be inspired a bit by his Prime incarnation's head with a body that could be a retool/pretool for Optimus Prime or perhaps even a Dark of the Moon movie-inspired Galvatron. Or G2 Pyro, or goodness knows what.
These and others will be sold as part of PulseCon's reveals this weekend at site sponsor Entertainment Earth as well as other outlets where I do not theoretically get paid. Items will be going on sale Friday afternoon around 5:00 PM Eastern/2:00 PM Pacific along with Star Wars. Marvel and others will be on Saturday around the same time.

Star Trek Playmobil Spock's Ears and Eyes
|
Via my Twitter: I've had some "what's inside Star Trek Playmobil Spock's head?" questions. Well, here you are.
It's a new head - the eyes and mouth are painted, the ears are molded as part of the noggin. As such, he can't wear many (or possibly any) existing unmodified hair pieces. You can put his hair piece on others, though.
Generally once Playmobil makes a new piece, but not always, it'll get reused in a few sets. It would not surprise me one bit to find out we'll someday see The Lord of the Rings or other elf-adjacent figures use this part somehow.

It's Hasbro Pulse Con, Charlie Brown
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: PulseCon. Since San Diego and New York events were skipped by Hasbro, they're running panels today and tomorrow from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern, with product going on sale at 5:00 PM. Exclusive product will only be on Pulse, but you can get other stuff elsewhere.
Speculation has it that new HasLab items will be revealed or teased today, including the worst-kept-secret, The Black Series Rancor monster creature.
For non-exclusive items, I work at Entertainment Earth and we'll be offering free shipping on many of the new pre-orders. Keep an eye on that link for today's new reveals, which should include Star Wars, Power Rangers, Transformers, and... that may be it actually. Theoretically your other favorite online stores will also be putting these up today as well, but they don't pay me, so they don't get a link. Sorry, I don't make the rules. (Actually I do.)

HasLab G.I. Joe Skystriker - $230
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: G.I. Joe Skystriker. It's $230 and 3 3/4-inch O-Ring size, and comes with at least two figures and a lot of gear.
Fans, of course, were asking for the U.S.S. Flagg... which is unlikely. The original one sold at Sears for $109.99, while the Skystriker was $22.99. Not even factoring in freight, it would be a safe bet that the Flagg would be at least a thousand bucks if it were to happen. This set isn't too shabby given the size and complexity of the plane and the fact you might get quite a few new retro figures in the box. It's not as cheap as things were in 1985, but it's a lot cheaper than it would have been as a convention exclusive.
The Rancor Monster also launched for $349.99.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Leader Rodimus Prime Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A lot of gear! The Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Leader Rodimus Prime Action Figure is a fancier than Optimus but not as fancy as other $80 figures. The gear is amazing! The figure isn't terribly big - but it seems hard to imagine more stuff coming with a Voyager (or small Leader) class figure, and upgrade sets would cost a lot more. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Via Kickstarter: ROBOSKULL MKII - Action Figure Vehicle. It's $219 and comes with one exclusive 3 3/4-inch figure - and removable seats so you can fit in two 3 3/4-inch figures or one 6-inch figure.
The ship takes more than a few design cues from the UK Action Force Roboskull, which costs significantly more these days.
A number of compatible figures and vehicles are also available to order, so take a look if you need more very big things.
