NES Blazing Rangers, Gun Guardian Gun Girl Games
|
Via 1st Press Games: Blazing Rangers for NES and Famicom. There are many flavors - limited, regular, US, Japan, PAL, and so on - so you've got options. The box art pays tribute to various regional packagings, so you'll no doubt see the graphic design and go "Oh, I recognize that." Here's a video showing some of the game. Pre-orders soon, we're told.
Also of interest is (.nes file) Gold Guardian Gun Girl Trial Version, a Famicom game which will be brought to the USA for NES by Justin Orenich of Neodelphino Productions. He put out the US NES Haradius Zero release, which I bought, and is great. G.G.G.G. is a shooter with an unusual control scheme, and while the demo is easy I like it enough to want to buy it. No pre-order date has been given, but Justin seems to get stuff out quickly.

New Lamps Album - People With Faces
|
Via In the Red Records: LAMPS - PEOPLE WITH FACES on vinyl, and via Bandcamp People with Faces digital download. Produced by Ty Seagall, the noisy rock band is, to say the least, fantastic - I first heard them because someone posted a rip of a 7" record of Devo and Pissed Jeans covers. They're great.
Lamps haven't put out a new album in nearly eight years, so this is pretty exciting.

Buzzworthy Bumblebee Line Hitting Targets
|
Via TFW2005: Transformers Buzzworthy Bumblebee: Bumblebee & Spike 2-Pack In-Hand Images. US sightings started late last week, so check the Target.com web site to order or see if your area got any. (I found one on Saturday. Not worth $15 but it's neat enough that you're going to want it.)
This set is part of what appears to be a Target-exclusive program involving at least four yellow-box reissues of Studio Series toys, two Cyberverse toys, and a big one-step movieverse Bee too. Hopefully there will be more - any Volkswagen toys are conspicuously absent from the line-ups, but Chevy fans have a lot of interesting options to track down.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Deluxe Cheetor Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's a cat! The Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Deluxe Cheetor Action Figure is the first "classics" take on Cheetor in quite some time, and it does a good job combining the 1990s original toy and animation model feel with elements from the Transmetals toy and some slightly different coloring. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Nintendo Laughs at Microsoft
|
Via Bloomberg: Xbox: The Oral History of an American Video Game Empire. Nintendo had gobs and gobs of liquid cash after the 1990s put the Internet and often Windows 95/98 in everybody's home, so they went shopping for software developers like EA and Midway. And Nintendo. So says Kevin Bachus:
"Steve [Ballmer] made us go meet with Nintendo to see if they would consider being acquired. They just laughed their asses off. Like, imagine an hour of somebody just laughing at you. That was kind of how that meeting went."

Transformers Does More Netflix Figures?
|
Via TFW2005: Possible First Look At Rusty Siege Ironhide And Kingdom Cheetor Redeco. These are interesting - it looks like designer toy deco got slapped on $20 Hasbro toys. These haven't been announced yet, but so far a clear purple Paleotrex, a roughed-up black and white Ironhide (as seen in Earthrise), a rusty "sparkless" that looks like Barricade (as seen in Siege), and a fancy Cheetor in 1996 colors. There's plenty of speculation that they'll be Walmart exclusives, but it would be irresponsible to say any of this is confirmed.

Sega Genesis Irena Genesis Metal Fury on Kickstarter
|
Via Kickstarter: Irena Genesis Metal Fury! This one has been in production for a long time, and it's a long ways off - limited edition cartridges are expected November/December 2021, and the standard box & manual & cartridge level is March of 2022. It's also 45 Euros plus shippig.
The demo going around is a lot of fun and it looks great - give it a peek.

NES Tapeworm Disco Puzzle, Too
|
Via Kickstarter: Tapeworm Disco Puzzle. A new game for NES, Dreamcast and PC. It ends this week - I didn't see any indicators about it - so grab it if you want it as soon as you can. It's the same developers as Flea.
The cheapest boxed NES cartridge is 50 pounds, but there are other options. The game sounds pretty great from the video, and it's expected around August 2021.

Lanard 12-Inch Predator In Stock on Walmart.com
|
Via Walmart: Giant Predator. I have no idea what its retail distribution will be - Lanard's licensed action toys have been Walmart exclusives but there's chatter this may change. This one is labeled a Walmart exclusive. Right now the large figure is $19.99 online if you want to ship one to your home, and I'm considering it.
Smaller figures are due soon, but the prices are unknown.

New Predators, Aliens Hitting
|
Via Walmart: 7" Predator Figure - City Hunter figures are showing up in stores, as are the 7-inch Alien figures from Lanard Toy. I found all six over the weekend - they're about $9.84 each, and are basically a Hasbro Marvel Legends figure. The articulation isn't as good as boasted on-pack - I'd say the Predator has at best 20 when the box boasts 25 joints - but it's still absolutely worth the asking price if you can find one.
You can't order them online yet, but if you're out getting groceries and weed killer it might be worth a detour to the toy section during the non-busy shopping hours with the other vampires. Safe hunting.

|
GameBoy on Kickstarter: The Shapeshifter
|
Via Kickstarter: New Cartridge Game 'The Shapeshifter' - 2021. The cheapest cartridge release is about 35 Euros, which isn't all that bad. Other games are included depending on which tiers you pick, and the ETA is May of this year. That sounds pretty neat.
The gimmick is you become what you touch - so animals like turtles or butterflies can help you get through this adventure game.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Autobot Hot Rod Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's a remake to end all remakes! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Autobot Hot Rod Action Figure is probably as good as this character can get for this price point - with amazing paint, extra accessories, and the best Hot Rod head sculpt I've ever seen, it's worth paying the $10 premium for a toy this size. There are a couple of parts that were cast in yellow that would look better in another color, but at least they're largely hidden in robot mode. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

B-Roll: 20 Minutes of Film from Toys R Us, 1991
|
Via Shaun and YouTube: Toys "R" Us - 1991-11-27 is a real trip back in time. From a New York City Toys R Us, you can see footage of classic bikes, Ninja Turtles figures, Barbies, LEGO sets, and of course, NES games with the classic pull-slip wall. For those wanting to put this in game terms, this is a couple of months after the release of the Super NES, and a couple of years after the Sega Genesis and Nintendo GameBoy.
You can also see American Gladiators toys. This is before the era that Collectors Took Over. While there was a secondary market for old and collectible toys (Action Figure Digest, Toy Shop Magazine, flea markets, antique shows, etc.) things were rarely made for adult fans in mind and "Collector's Edition" was something you would sometimes see slapped on the box a quick-buck reissue. Just a couple of years later we'd see a shift to more things aimed at adults and older fans like Playmates' Star Trek: The Next Generation with numbered figures, Todd Toys' Spawn, Acclaim's home release of Mortal Kombat, and other stuff that caused the scope of these stores to shift outside the usual ages of 0-13 (or the action toy target of 4-11.)

Transformers Grapple Discounts - $22.49 or $23.30
|
Via Amazon and probably an ad since we get a cut if you order through any of these links: Transformers Toys Generations War for Cybertron: Earthrise Voyager WFC-E10 Autobot Grapple Action Figure for $23.30! Retail on this was $30, and it's an excellent, fun toy that will be retooled as Inferno shortly. If you'd prefer Inferno, you should wait - but for this price Grapple's well worth it.
Also, Entertainment Earth has Earthrise Grapple in not-mint boxes for $22.49. Mint ones are sold out, so odds are low you'll see it in stores if it already sold through. "Not mint" boxes tend to be pretty good. (I do work there, and I have seen a lot of not-mint items in boxes that are better than those at many of the big box stores after a weekend of shoppers.)
Also reports are getting out of HasLab Unicrons shipping to big wholesale buyers in Hong Kong, which probably means America-bound Chaos Bringers are just a couple of weeks away. Depending on the ports, and the seas.

NES HACK*MATCH on Indiegogo
|
Via Indiegogo: HACK*MATCH for the NES . You've got a bit over 3 weeks to look at this game, which they estimate will ship in April. The digital ROM is $10, and a physical boxed cartridge is a surprisingly cheap $40.
It has already met its goal, and say the game is completed. Assuming their supply chain has the parts, April probably isn't too outlandish of a delivery window.
