|
Via the Glyos News Dump: Glyos Onell Design April 6 2017 Drop Menu. There's a mystery figure that we're assuming is Pheyden cosplaying as Adventure People Brainoid - awesome - and a unique Outer Space Men Cyclops. There's also a matching Pheyden, which I neglected to order because I'm a goober who missed the fine print of "includes exclusive OSM weapons." Well, shoot.
Take a look - Knights of the Slice, Armorvors, Glyans, and more were up and are probably already gone.

You Can Not Has: Transformers Valvotron
|
Via me screaming in frustration: Win One of 5,000 First Prize limited edition ValvoTron action figures. If you get your oil changed in your car, you can win this promotional figure - 5,000 is actually quite a large number in the collecting community, especially if the winners try to flip them all. (There aren't 5,000 "I buy one of everything" fans.)
It isn't clear if it transforms or not, but at 5 1/2-inches tall it's about the size of a Deluxe - that's pretty big. If history is any indication, odds are more than 5,000 will be made and even if there aren't, as time goes on and attention spans dip you'll probably see them on the secondary market for a fair price. (There was a brief period where the Chevy Aveo Swerve was selling under $20 on Amazon.) Be patient, be vigilant, or just try to win one for free.

NES Classic Discontinued, confirms Nintendo
|
Via IGN: Nintendo Discontinues the NES Classic Edition. I've never seen the official controllers sold separately, and I've only seen the unit itself once, one time, at a Walmart.
The $59.99 unit had 30 games and was a killer deal for what it was - although many opted to roll their own microconsoles and roll their eyes at an official version. The hackable, adorable, and lovable piece of hardware sold over a million units and probably could have sold a million more.

Japanese Char Colors Revised for Transformers Legends
|
Via TakaraTomy Mall: Kup (Char) Color Revision.
So a week or two ago we saw a grey take on Kup from Japan - the new pictures are actually closer to green, and it's a big improvement. I'm not saying its necessarily worth the premium pricing, but it's at least not awful.
Also, it looks like Action Masters would've been the order of the day for BotCon 2017 - pictures are circulating of Action Masters-inspired repaints of Optimus Prime (from the recent Titans Return Laser Optimus Prime) and Sprocket (from Triggerhappy).

New Kinnikuman - M.U.S.C.L.E. Volume 3
|
Via the Keshi Drop: Bandai Reveals Kinnikuman Kinkeshi Vol. 3 For Preorder! Oh baby! As of now (OK, Toy Fair) we knew of no plans to bring any of these to the USA - and I did explicitly ask Super7 if they were looking into it for M.U.S.C.L.E. and was told some level of no/not yet/who let you in. I pray they are going after it.
The set of 15 figures looks to be in the $40-$45 range before shipping, or about $3 per figure, or slightly more than what Super7's offerings have cost in the USA. A USB man and a sink man are particularly awesome.

You Can Has?: Transformers Valvotron
|
Via TFormers: The Last Knight And Valvoline Valvotron Promo Figure New Details Discovered. Previously announced as a contest prize, now you can also get one by sending in receipts from 5 quarts of oil.
Assuming you need some oil anyway, it may not be a bad deal - depending on the specifics (5 1-quart bottles or 1 5-quart bottle or what have you) you can probably estimate the cost to be in the $25-$35 range. Unless I'm missing some bigger point, which is likely and possible. At this time I have not seen confirmation if the figure transforms or is even articulated - but it is roughly the size of the non-transforming "value figures" we saw for Robots in Disguise at chains like Family Dollar and Dollar General over the last few years. Considering it is free with a $25-$35 purchase and those non-transforming robots had 3 or 4 joints and cost $6 or so, that would seem to be a likely format for this kind of promotional item.

Hasbro Gaming Crate Incoming
|
Via Fortune: Hasbro Is Launching a Subscription Service for Family Games. As someone in the toy business, I hear a lot about Hasbro's "Family Game Night" program - their pitch around games isn't just in their marketing, but also included things like a game show on television. Now, they're taking this branding to subscription boxes that, if launched, would be Hasbro's first foray into such a thing. An alternate box for Party gaming is also in the works. Back in 2005, Hasbro put out feelers (and set up a mailing list) for a figure subscription for Revenge of the Sith at Star Wars Celebration III, but the actual program failed to materialize..
According to the article, there would be 4 crates of games at $50 each. Contents should be early releases of new products, so ideally you wouldn't get sent something you already purchased.
Hasbro says the service will launch in Summer and set up this page to get on the mailing list. I'm not a big gamer, but I signed up because I absolutely want to know more, in particular if other crate programs become a reality.
