Via CBS: CBS announces new Star Trek series to premiere in January 2017. The announcement is the hamburger disguising the pill - an announcement for a new streaming service for $6 per month, which will carry the show (supposedly) exclusively after the pilot airs on CBS.
There are no specifics as to when the show will take place, or in which continuity, but it's worth noting that 2017 is Star Wars' 40th anniversary and since 1998, that franchise has been routinely stealing Star Trek's thunder. (See The Phantom Menace's 1998 trailer stomping on Insurrection in the press, Deep Space Nine ending during peak George R. Binks mania, Revenge of the Sith's release eclipsing the long drain-spiral of Enterprise.)
It is not known if any existing toy licenses will cover this new show - I'm guessing no.
From the article: "Hasbro is launching the G.I. JOE Kindle Worlds Toy Fan Vote to create a new figure in the 2016 G.I. JOE lineup based on these original writings."
It does not specify where or how it will be sold - as a shared exclusive, as a main line item, for the Club, or what, but it's something. Joe fans haven't had a lot to look forward to lately, so this is good news indeed. Voting is live through November 9 for four candidates - two of which are women, and two of which are Cobra.

The important part: "Funko will continue to be led by CEO Brian Mariotti and other members of the existing senior management team, who will all be meaningful equity owners alongside ACON. Fundamental Capital will retain a Board seat and a minority ownership stake in the business." Brian, if you don't know him, is a groovy dude and basically the person you want to keep steering the ship.
"This is a bundle of 4 Sierra games: Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved, King¹s Quest Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember, Velocity 2X, and Shiftlings."
Also available: Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, Need For Speed, and The Peanuts Movie: Snoopy¹s Grand Adventure.

Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Overrated, but you'll buy it anyway! The Hasbro Transformers Age of Extinction Slog was a heavily discounted item last month, and now... not. It's neat to look at on the cheap, but your Transformers dollar is better spent elsewhere. Read on and come back Monday for more!

Soon to be obsolete! The Hasbro Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron Autobot Blaster fun, sturdy toy with good joints and an intuitive transformation - and by this time next year you'll probably never look at it again since we're getting a new, bigger, Headmastery Blaster. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Each set has the first Revenge of the Sith Clone Trooper, plus other troopers of various makes and models. The yellow Attack of the Clones Clone Commander is included, as is an original trilogy Stormtrooper with battle-damage that looks good in person, and it is completed by a pauldroned First Order Stormtrooper. Pre-orders are open now.
Since it's in Somerville (near Boston) you probably won't be going, but at least there's a new EP en route. Via their mailing list: "I guess the biggest thing is that we'll have an EP coming out very, very soon. We wanted to get something out into the world to tide you over until our next full-length album. It will contain "Phantoms," i.e. our song that will be featured in the upcoming Amplitude, as well as some other delightfully hott traxx. Full details just around the corner, but just wanted to let you know we're also playing a release party too!"
Transformers Club Clearance - $10 Botcon, Club Exclusives
Via the Official Transformers Collectors Club: Transformers Clearance got quite the update. Machine Wars Mirage, Sandstorm, and Thundercracker are $10. Pre-Beast Wars Depth Charge is $10. Generation 2 Electro(ns) is also $10. Shipping for one figure is kind of expensive, but if you buy a bunch the average is actually quite reasonable - cheaper than current retail toys, actually.
The catch is that you must be an active member of the club to place an order. Or look at it this way, Christmas is coming up at $10 Transformers are a can't-miss prospect. Assuming, of course, you have a club membership. In which case those figures are probably also fantastic trade fodder on the forums, too.

Via Kickstarter: Bring Back MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. Joel Hodgson is currently the only name (in addition to Shout Factory) attached to this project, and this interview confirms there will be a new host and new voices for the bots - but possible cameos from the original cast.
The aim seems to be to make the show for fans and sell broadcast rights later. $2 million makes it happen with 3 episodes - stretch goals go up to 12 episodes. It was nearly 10% funded in the first few hours of being live yesterday.

Red! The Hasbro Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Ironhide is a decent take on the character, but doesn't look too much like the cartoon. Or the original toy, but I'll always prefer the toy with an actual head. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
It's $350, has 4,600 pieces, 9 figures, 3 smaller ghosts, and is scaled to fit other giant expensive building sets. You know, like the Haunted House you regret not having bought.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider delivers a cinematic survival action adventure where you will join Lara Croft on her first tomb raiding expedition. Huge ancient spaces littered with deadly traps, solve dramatic environmental puzzles, and decipher ancient texts to reveal crypts as you take on a world filled with secrets to discover. Conquer a world fiercely protecting its secrets, endure perilous conditions and unstable landscapes, face dangerous wildlife that act as guardians to ancient tombs, and explore huge interactive environments. Use the environment to your advantage, scale trees and dive underwater to avoid or takedown enemies, configure LaraÕs gear, weapons, and ammo to suit your play style, craft explosives on the fly to sow chaos, and wield LaraÕs signature combat bows and climbing axe."

I saw a full case at Toys R Us at $3.99 a whack - NES fans will enjoy pixel versions of Link, Mario, Luigi, and Donkey Kong. Non-pixel figures in this wave include Skull Kid, Dixie Kong, Shy Guy, and Yellow Pikmin. These cost considerably more on Amazon, where they're available right now. Good hunting.
American retailer Entertainment Earth (and therefore me) have received Combiner Wars Onslaught and Scattershot, and I cracked mine open. (Scattershot review Wednesday.) Onslaught has the grey combiner mode chestplate and, so far, seems to have parts tolerance issues - the vehicle front won't peg together, and parts of the combined torso don't quite peg together. Meanwhile, Scattershot is basically perfect - the only complaint is that you may not really have much use for his lack of brown or the lack of a new combiner mode head/chest. But structurally, he's exquisite. I posted pictures of his bio to my Tumblr account.
Lastly, Titans Return Fortress Maximus Leaked?! It looks like a "yes" - the watermarked image has a name of David Chua, who Google says is a Hasbro Asia employee. This item appears to be a shared exclusive given the data (release date, edition size, features). Since this one has premium G1 Deco and Labels, with a fairly low run and a higher-than-usual price, it sure as heck sounds like a special to me. We'll see what happens once an official announcement is made.

Take a stab at finding the Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics Blade because he's pretty cheap now. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Not much specific info was given, but it's a long time coming. Hasbro had the Micronauts logo in its Toy Fair showroom 7 or 8 years ago, and there have been rumors-that-weren't-rumors about a movie for quite some time. Here's looking forward to Toy Fair.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Passed Goal, Adds Ray of Jonah
Via Kickstarter: The Next Host of MST3K. Plus: a 24-Hour CHALLENGE! . Joel Hodgson gives us the name of the next host, and it's somebody we know - podcaster, music fan, and @Midnight writer - and stand-up - and other stuff - Jonah Ray.
Joel Hodgson or his court-appointed Kickstarter medium writes: "At the end of the day, he's just another regular guy in a yellow jumpsuit - not so different from you and me. I'm excited to see what he can bring to the next hundred episodes of Mystery Science Theater, until it's time to hand the jumpsuit over to someone else."

Ad: New DC Comics Action Figures have been added to Entertainment Earth. Harley! Batman! Adam Strange! These and others are all coming soon, and are based on the art of one Darwyn Cooke.
I also read somewhere that the next TV show would be a prequel to movie #5, but I can't find it now and it doesn't necessarily correspond with the timeline. But hey, it might - it depends on how long Hasbro plans to milk that last year of Robots in Disguise.

I was seeing some unusual Jakks Nintendo items on eBay and noticed this one. The box is $30 plus shipping ($9) making it not cheap - but certainly interesting if you're like me and said "This figure would be awesome with a better paint job." Given Samus is pretty scarce in the first place, it may be the best shot most of you have at getting one. Their policies say you can sign up once and then cancel immediately, so I'm giving it a shot - this figure is due to ship out the first week of December. Possible regrets recur every 30 days. Other items included in this box are a Darth Vader comic book, and since I was about to pay $30 for the Samus on eBay that was good enough for me.
If you were curious as to what kind of junk quality merchandise the box has, I suggest checking My Subscription Addiction - they do a good job inventorying all of these things. It looks like you get the usual selection of not-quite-licensed t-shirts as well as posters, plush, luggage tags, Blu-Ray discs, mugs, comics, and other future fodder for regifting or your junk drawers. I may not necessarily agree with their definition of "value," but I look at it like this - would I pay $30 for Samus on eBay anyway? Yeah. So I jumped for this one.

Via Facebook: The polls are open!. It may be too late, but go check and be sure.
The aim is to pick the next big Transformers toy - Trypticon is in the lead on many informal polls, and he's joined by Omega Supreme and Scorponok. For those who have watched other Fan's Choice polls, we've found quite often that the collector sites do not always correspond to the actual winners. Star Wars polls are notorious from surprise upsets, mostly because collectors spend a lot of money but do live in a bubble. We look forward to seeing how this shakes out. The toy you vote on is expected Fall (meaning near Comic-Con) 2017.

Via Tim Mee Toys: New Tim Mee Army Men Available Now. Jeff from Tim Mee contacted me over the weekend to point out that the Black Helicopter Strikeforce and a Bucket of Army Men to their Amazon storefront - and are available to ship now. If you need more plastic hardware, take a look - we'll be taking a closer look at them right here in Figure of the Day pretty soon.
Over the weekend, a pal directed me to Transformers Custom Club Fire Convoy. Since I got Hot Spot - and saw another custom or two - I've been itching to see him turned in to Super Fire Convoy, the Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime toy. And boy howdy, does it work nicely.
In this custom project you simply must see, Rook becomes Inferno, Alpha Bravo becomes Evac, Streetwise becomes Red Alert, and Offroad becomes Prowl. It really works well! Hopefully someone out there is taking notes. Maybe not on how this particular Evac was executed, but everything else is wonderful.
