M2 Developing Sega's Mega Drive/Genesis Classic, $80 in September
Via Kotaku and others by way of Sega Fes 2019: Sega Will Release The Genesis Mini On September 19. What's particularly fascinating is the retro archivists at M2 are handling the software for 40 different games to be included on board, also Japan, US, and European versions of Castlevania: Bloodlines. And Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo 2, Shining Force, Space Harrier II, Gunstar Heroes, and others you actually want. It's sounding better than the Sony PlayStation Classic already.
Streets of Rage composer Yuzo Miro is composing new music for the menus. That's a big deal.
With Nintendo's mini boxes being good, Analogue's boxes being great - for collectors, and AtGames also selling things, you've got a lot of options. For the non-collector or someone wanting a Criterion Collection-esque compilation, this sounds like it might be pretty good. For American fans, 2019 is the 30th anniversary of the Sega Genesis - and GameBoy, and TurboGrafx-16. Do you feel old yet?
This totally wasn't on my radar - but it looks gorgeous! All flavors sold out, but we'll try to be on top of future releases so I and you can get one. The figure looks sharp.

New Album - Technoptimistic from Remute Released on Cartridge
Via Bandcamp: Technoptimistic by Remute was released last month and you can buy it in physical form. The form is that of a Sega Mega Drive or Genesis cartridge. I'm playing the previews as I type this and it's pretty good - if you're familiar with Shit Robot it's like a 16-bit version of that, it sounds a lot like "From the Cradle to the Rave" in spots.
Like other media stores, they've been pivoting to vinyl - mostly vinyl figures. Walgreens also posted iffy earnings. As both are big rollers in the world of toys with more locations than just about anyone else with a toy section in the USA, it's kind of alarming.
"Eternity: The Last Unicorn is a fully featured action RPG inspired by tales from Norse Mythology with classic game mechanics that bring a nostalgic feeling to players."
Also available: Borderlands: Game Of The Year Edition, Zaccaria Pinball, Bow To Blood: Last Captain Standing, FAR: Lone Sails, Paladins FutureÕs End Pack, and AngerForce: Reloaded. And a lot more, including pre-orders.
Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe GameBoy Color on Kickstarter
Via Kickstarter: Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe for GB/GBC. Released previously as GameBoy-only, this new one is playable on all the GameBoy platforms - although it's optimized for GameBoy Color, hence the "Deluxe" nod to the DX games of the very late 1990s.
At today's exchange rate it's $55 for a boxed copy with manual, coin, cartridge, and the works.
Some of the stretch goals are pretty good, like a Super GameBoy border (for those of you playing on one on your Super NT or Super Nintendo.) I admit, that's a huge selling point.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Bow to Blood: Last Captain Standing, Pitfall Planet, Shadow Blade: Reloaded, Smashing The Battle, Safety First!, and several dozen others.
At retail it's Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission and Darksiders: Warmastered Edition.
Via the publisher: Nebs 'n Debs. You can get it as a ROM or as a cartridge with a box. This page has a demo ROM of the first level which I tried, and it was pretty good if brief - it plays like the GameBoy WarioLand: Super MarioLand 3 game, but not quite as stiff.
A ROM is $10. The cartridge with box, manual, dust sleeve, and ROM is $47.99. I have yet to find a review of this one, but it has a woman with an octopus stuck to her head for some reason I don't know.
For those of you keeping track of such things, other indie games are making some good progress. Micro Mages is being assembled and shipping out shortly. Family Picross just updated saying it's getting ready to ship. Alfonzo's Arctic Adventure shipped last month. It's a strangely bright era of new old games.
Supposedly this is a big fix - if you have Hyperkin's clone Atari VCS (or 2600), it fixes audio, scanlines, and a bunch of other stuff. Since there probably won't be a FPGA clone any time soon - or maybe there is, who knows - this may be handy if you have this clone already.

Review: Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Siege Starscream Action Figure

Via Kickstarter: DUNGEONS & DOOMKNIGHTS: An 8-bit AdventureQuest for the NES. I should note, this one is unusual for NES Kickstarters in that there's no video and the game isn't done yet. The ETA is December for the cartridge and October for the ROM, and it looks like it might be interesting. They call it a "Zeldavania."
This one has already ben fully funded 5 times over, and generally these sorts of things tend to have a bit of a production above and beyond the backers. (There's also a gold cartridge for backers only.) It's part of AdventureQuest, and I don't know what that is, because I don't do a lot of online gaming. Or any, since StarCraft.
Via many: BennVenn's Freckle Shack - Backlit Game Boy Color Drop-IN LCD Kit. This is the long-gestating drop-in display replacement for the GameBoy Color that doesn't require soldering or sacrificing existing vintage game hardware - there's finally a video showing the process.
Give it a look - I'm probably going to have to make a decision if I want to do this, and do I sacrifice my launch day purple unit or go buy a used one to change up.
Via Kickstarter: Run-A-Mucks mini figures. If you liked OMFG, these are similar - and one of them, Coughin' Coffin, was a frequent candidate in October Toys' polls for new characters. I already pledged - they're about 20% pledged.
Thanks to inflation, 6 figures are $20 plus shipping - pins and other goodies are also on deck.
New to the Playstation 4 this week: Airport Simulator 2019, Constructor Plus, Dangerous Driving, Dark Quest 2, Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain, Falcon Age, Ghost 1.0, Super Weekend Mode, Ultrawings Flat, Vaporum, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Royal Roads, and Shadowgate.

Also available: Vaporum, Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!, Dangerous Driving, Gleaner Heights, Realm Royale Starter Pack, and Super Weekend Mode. And a lot more, including pre-orders.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Time Pilot, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Shadowgate, Doggie Ninja: The Golden Mission, Box Align, and several dozen others.

Capcom Teases New Joystick, Game Collection, or Both
Via Twitter: A new challenger appears. Tune in for a special announcement tomorrow. A short video shows a bunch of classic arcade games reflected in Sanwa-ish arcade buttons. Speculation is that this is a high-end plug-and-play arcade stick with built in games... which would be pretty fascinating.
It could just as easily be a new controller and Switch collection, but hey, it looks interesting enough to tune in. I mean, I'm posting about it. Not that I need some news or anything.
Via Touch and Go: SHELLAC The End of Radio (Peel Sessions Double Album). There are two LPs and a t-shirt, the latter of which is kind of hard to come by. There aren't a lot of Shellac shirts of the authorized variety available on the regular.
Many tracks from Shellac Peel Sessions have made the rounds and Im not quite sure if these are the ones I've heard or not - there's a particularly great "The End of Radio" from just after Mr. Peel's departure of this mortal coil. Anyway, I ordered it, you should look at it. It's due in June.
Via a few outlets: Investor meet brings interesting tidbits. SNK reported SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy sold over 300,000 units and the mini Neo Geo outperformed expectations. As such, they're working on "Neo Geo versions 2 and 3" as well as a new Metal Slug game.
No idea if we're talking an all-in-one, arcade machine, new consoles with cartridges, or what. I'm all ears if it's a new 16bit console with s-video and cartridges.
As for Capcom, meet the Capcom Home Arcade, a garish but seemingly high-end arcade stick that needs HDMI and USB connections to put 16 arcade games on your TV. It's only for Europe, and it's a licensed product from Kochmedia - not Capcom directly - and it's over $200. But it has Sanwa parts, so that's exciting. It might not be for you, but it's certainly worth seeing.
Highlights are many - Alien vs. Predator, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Darkstalkers, and so on. It's still expensive.
New to the Playstation 4 this week: Konami Anniversary Collection Arcade Classics, Crossovers By Powgi, Dark Quest 2, Ghost Giant, GodÕs Trigger, HeavenÕs Vault, My Time At Portia, Our World Is Ended., Path to Mnemosyne, World War Z, and Please, DonÕt Touch Anything. And more.

"Collect all Garage Kit 2 content for one price. Contains the 2nd Cygon, Pariah, Nyvoss, Terra and Vintek garage kits. You won't need to choose which car to make into your ultimate ride!"
Also available: Mutant Football League Ð Dynasty Edition. And a lot more, including pre-orders.
Via Sega: 10 More Sega Genesis Mini games revealed. Thunder Force III, Landstalker, Contra Hard Corps, Earthworm Jim, Streets of Rage 2, and Castle of Illusion are just some of the games included. Disney licenses on a micro console? Hunh. I guess Genesis Does indeed.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Tanks Meet Zombies, Katana Zero, Sudoku Relax, SlabWell: The Quest for Kaktun's Alpaca, Hell is Other Demons, and several dozen others.
At retail it's Our World Is Ended, My Time At Portia, and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD.

Via Weibo: Transformers Selects Snaptrap/Turtler Coming. From the look of things, it's a retool of a retool - shades of Silverbolt and Hun-Grrr are present on the grey model of the central body of the Seacons. One torso down, five limbs to go!
When and how or if this comes to the USA remains to be seen - so far, Hasbro Pulse got Star Convoy while online shops like Entertainment Earth have Smokescreen, Combat Megatron, Red Swoop, and Ricochet.
Via many: Pix Brix: Pixel Art Building Brick. SSM Vending has been offering capsule sets of these - unless I am mistaken - and now you can get them by the bucket. I am contemplating asking if I can get enough to build a good Vic Viper from this.
Take a look - honestly, I'd love to see them do a set in GameBoy colors and I hope they do! Four shades of green for the olds among us.
Via ROMhacking.net: Super Mario Land DX by Toruzz. If you've seen fan-made Super Mario Land 2 DX cartridges, it is my understanding they come from the work of toruzz - and now he put some work on the first game.
It looks really nice. If you have the means to play this on a GameBoy Color or an emulator, this is probably worth a look. The game is still tons of fun, and could use a little color.
New to the Playstation 4 this week: A Chair In a Room: Greenwater, DayD: Through Time, Days Gone, Jupiter & Mars, Mortal Kombat 11, and Zeroptian Invasion.

"8 KONAMI arcade classics of the 80s, from Nemesis to TwinBee. Including bonus eBook packed with new information never before revealed to the public."
Also available: Deponia, Unknown Fate, Dangerous Driving, Zeroptian Invasion, Mortal Kombat 11, and Human: Fall Flat + The Flame In The Flood Bundle. And a lot more, including pre-orders.
Via Super7: Masters of the Universe Snake Mountain. It ain't cheap - as Hasbro has dragged their feet to do a follow-up to the pricey Sail Barge, Super7 and Mattel have a $600, 3-foot tall, 4-foot wide Snake Mountain for your house. That price does not include shipping, either.
This is currently in that "Golly I want one but... how much?" The detail is stunning and the features are wonderful, and it makes me kind of wish I skipped Castle Grayskull to wait for this one. Inflation is real, and I commend them for getting this monstrosity out nearly 10 years after the line launched. Never give up hope, toy collectors!

New! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Autobot Drift is a shared exclusive with three dinosaur buddies. Drift has a new head, new sword, and new deco while the dinobots are all new. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Via Kickstarter: Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe for GB/GBC. The black and white cartridge did fine, and this new one has stuff for Super GameBoy and GameBoy Color too. It is not funded, but close - and with 4 days to go. I did pledge to support this one because I missed the DMG edition.
